Probable Starting Lineups
Brian Giles batting second is such a waste of an awesome hitter. He should bat third, Chipper clean-up, and Andruw fifth. Estrada in the two hole... lacks the power of a five hitter. 725968 Brian Giles? you mean Marcus Giles right? That is his brother, Marcus is not as much a power hitter as his brother Brian. I think Marcus is a great 2hole hitter. 725971 Of course I mean Marcus... Sorry. But Marcus has the 30-homer power Brian does IMO. He's just too good to be hitting second in a line-up that has nobody from 6-9... 726178 Let's see how Giles and Furcal perform now that they are off "the juice." I heard Brett Boone left a pretty good supply before he departed. :whistle

Moehler and Harris waver over Marlins waiver
I see your point CH, however the other thought is to "strike while the iron is hot." Abe Nunez's trade value was never higher than right after Spring Training...who knows what we might have been able to acquire for him at that point. In any case, it should be an interesting next couple of days...

4/1 - Marlins @ New York Muts - 7:10 PM
Today's opponent: New York Mets Where: Tradition Field, Port St. Lucie, 7:10 p.m. Broadcast: Radio - WQAM (560-AM); WQBA (1140-AM). Marlins pitching: RHP Brian Moehler. Mets pitching: TBA. Worth noting: Rather than pitch against his former team tonight, LHP Al Leiter will make his final spring appearance in a minor league game this afternoon. In four Grapefruit League starts, Leiter is 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA. ... RHP Yorman Bazardo will start for the Class A Greensboro Grasshoppers against the Marlins in Sunday's exhibition. Fox Sports Net will televise Saturday's Grapefruit League finale against the Mets. - Juan C. Rodriguez (Sun-Sentinel)

Willingham and Dillon sent down
So his 193 career pinch hits are meaningless???

Willingham and Dillon sent down
Give me a break. What the hell has Joe Dillon done to deserve a roster spot? He had his chance and failed this spring. Aguila seized his opportunity and made the roster - Dillon did not. To say Dillon is more deserving than Harris is laughable. :hat

Moehler and Harris waver over Marlins waiver
Until a better replacement is found I don't see the problem with keeping MLB's all-time pinch hit king on the roster. I just don't see a better alternative on the roster. Joe Dillon will never be a major league player and Willigham is better off spending some more time in Triple A. Harris was not 0-9 in key situations last year. For some reason, I can't get that game winning hit off Gagne out of my mind. I hope "the Pimp" turns a few more tricks in 2005. :thumbup

3/31 - DC Expos @ Marlins - 1:10 PM
Marlins update Today's opponent: Washington Nationals. Where: Roger Dean Stadium (Jupiter), 1:05 p.m. Broadcast: None. Marlins pitching: RHP Josh Beckett. Mets pitching: RHP John Patterson. Worth noting: Marlins starters will throw anywhere from 80 to 100 pitches as they make their final exhibition appearances. Starting with RHP Josh Beckett today, the Marlins' first three starters each have one Grapefruit League outing left. LHP Dontrelle Willis is scheduled to pitch Sunday's exhibition against Class A Greensboro. RHP Ismael Valdez will throw in a minor league game Monday in Jupiter. - Juan C. Getting CJ as backup?
CJ is still 10x better than Treanor. No question about it. I'd take him back in a second. 725160 The guy is a cancer. There is a reason he has bounced all over the place. No thanks. :thumbdown

Getting CJ as backup?
He may sign somewhere since whoever signs him will only pay the major league minimum for him. When the Red Sox cut him they took responsibility for his contract. 725065 Thanks. That's what I was wondering... Rockies threw in 2.6 million to "equalize" deal... but I read that CJ is owed 9 million (and BoSox are responsible). Kim, as I read, is owed 5 million for '05. This is like one of those elementary school problems. If the train leaves Boston for Tampa Bay at 2:00 p.m., how much are the Devil Rays paying for C.J.? 725069 In some strange, convoluted way it makes perfect sense for John Henry to pay CJ since it was Dombrowski who signed him to that ridiculous deal when he was with the Marlins.

Gabe White available
Two questions: Is he better than any of the following: Mota, Perisho, Mecir, Reidling, Alfonseca, Jones? Is he worth taking a roster spot from Aguila, W. Delgado or Willingham/Harris/Little/Higginson/etc.? 724318 Tough call...he would be another solid lefty in the pen. Has he played for Jack while at Cincy??? :mischief2

Marlins' Perisho cherishes being lone lefty By Juan C. Rodriguez STAFF WRITER Posted March 30 2005 JUPITER -- Matt Perisho finished last season as the only lefty in the Marlins' bullpen. After Tuesday's roster moves, it appears he'll start this season with the same distinction. The Marlins sent right-hander Travis Smith and left-handers Jim Crowell and Les Walrond to minor league camp, leaving Perisho as their only viable lefty for relief duty. Rule 5 pick Luke Hagerty remains in the fold, but he is coming back from a finger injury and not a 25-man roster candidate. If the Marlins don't offer him back to the Cubs, he'll probably start the season on the disabled list. Barring any last-minute acquisitions, Perisho will return to a familiar albeit solitary role in the relief corps. Including Perisho, the Marlins used four left-handers out of the bullpen last season. Darren Oliver's June 30 relief appearance marked the last by a left-hander other than Perisho. "I don't think it really presents any kind of challenge," Perisho said. "It means I have to be ready every day and that's what I want to do. I would love to have 85, 95 appearances. ... For me to be the only [lefty], that means a lot of opportunities. "I welcome it. It'll be just like last year with more experience behind me. That will help me be a lot more aggressive in the situations I'm brought in. I can go right after guys like I did when we got Guillermo [Mota]. Just go after them, attack and be ready every night." Perisho made a career-high 66 appearances in 2004 and held left-handed hitters to a .207 average. The bullpen help the Marlins acquired during the offseason was all right-handed. Starting the season with two lefties would require them to carry a 12th pitcher. The Marlins may still go with 12. Even if they had more lefty options, they would probably be more inclined to keep a long man like Brian Moehler. "We'd love to have a couple [of left-handers], but there's no room," manager Jack McKeon said. "All those [right-handed] guys are locked in." Perisho learned a few things about his arm last season that should allow him to maximize his appearances. He long tossed with closer Armando Benitez daily. It was helpful over the short term in that it prepared Perisho for that evening if needed; in the long run the workout wore him down. "I felt good healthwise, but stuffwise I got tired," Perisho said. "I'm going to minimize the distance and the amount of the long toss. I'm still going to stretch it out every day, but I don't think I'm going to throw as long or as hard as I did with Armando." Getting Perisho on the field more also will require getting him warmed up less. He averaged 12.4 pitches per outing and totaled less than 10 in 32 appearances. What many don't consider is the number of times he got loose without going into the game also is a component of his workload. "My wife chewed me out about icing the other day when I threw eight pitches," Perisho said. "Yeah, but I threw 75 pitches getting ready to go into the game. Once you get up to that third time and not getting in, you're basically throwing two or three innings so you have to monitor how much you throw. ... If it's get up, get in, get out, I could probably do it seven days a week."

3/30 - Marlins @ New York Muts - 1:10 PM
Today's opponent: New York Mets. Where/when: Tradition Field, Port St. Lucie, 1:10 p.m. Broadcast: None. Marlins pitching: RHP Ismael Valdez. Mets pitching: RHP Matt Ginter. Worth noting: RHP Guillermo Mota threw 44 pitches during a three-inning stint in a minor league game Tuesday. Mota will get today off but is hoping to make back-to-back appearances Thursday and Friday. ... RHP John Riedling no longer is bothered by the muscle strain behind his shoulder that sidelined him earlier this month. He'll be ready for Tuesday's Opening Day against Atlanta. - Juan C. Rodriguez (Sun-Sentinel) Go Fish...Go Ish... :thumbup

Israeli T-Shirt
That's a cool pic. I am sure that after the Yankees and Dodgers the Marlins are the most popular team in Israel. 724159 Why? Justin Wayne???

Wilson Valdez on the move again
Wilson Delgado is nothing special. I hope he doesn't make the team. 724165 Thanks so much for your insight. It is greatly appreciated. I'm curious, who would you like to see back-up Castillo and Gonzo after Easley has been used off the bench??? :mischief2
