Getting CJ as backup?

Featured Replies

today Charles Johnson and a AAA prospect got traded to the Red Sox for BK Kim.

The sox cut CJ, and he is free to sign with any team.

As long as he comes cheap, I would love to see the Marlins sign him as the backup catcher, because he is better than Treanor.

Who knows if he is willing to take a pay cut and return to miami again though.

Your thoughts?

He's arrogant enough to try to suggest that he should start over LoDuca, and he and Beckett don't like each other.

Not to mention he didn't exactly enamour himself with the Loria regime. I'd take him back, but he brings a lot of baggage. On the flip-side, he caught AJ's best season in his career, as well as Beckett and Leiter, so there is an establishment with our staff.

Still, I just can't see it happening...

I don't think he would come back unless he was guaranteed the starting job, which simply will not happen. He has too much pride to be a backup.

i have mixed feelings on this.

CJ is obviously washed up.

He has a horrible attitude, still thinking its his right to be a starter.

If he had a reality check and came cheap I'd be interested, but I think we are going with what we got.

CJ is what he is....a poor hitting catcher with decling defensive skills.

Treanor is probably a better option right now.

Granted if CJ rededicated himself to his defensive game then all bets are off.

CJ>treanor but that's my opinion. If willingham or jorgy was the backup then I'd choose anyone of them over CJ I choose any on of them over Treanor but seeing Treanor is going to be the guy as Lo duca's backup I am not happy.

Lo Duca>Jorgy>willingham>johnson>Treanor

But that's if johnson was to come cheap, really cheap!

Looks like D rays will try and sign him though.

Agreed, but i'd put Willingham in front of Jorgy.

willingham cant do the thing thats most importnat for catchers very good at all.

true but his list should be Jorgy>LoDuca in terms of defense

CJ sucks

Better than you.

wow.. are you sure you're not lying about your age? Are you sure you're not like 11?

I think it's time of CJ to retire. I'd love to have him for sentimental reason but he's not that good anymore, I think we have better options in our camp.

He may sign somewhere since whoever signs him will only pay the major league minimum for him.

When the Red Sox cut him they took responsibility for his contract.

Ok so CJ's washed up?? And what is Treanor, a career minor leaguer whos getting a change because the only other backup option was Mike DiFilice. Theres no way you can tell me I don't care how old he is that CJs D is worse than Treanor... And why would Tampa Bay be in line... They have a very solid backup right now in Kevin Cash, hed be of more use here being a backup than a 3rd string, I think CJ would rather sign here...

Thanks. That's what I was wondering... Rockies threw in 2.6 million to "equalize" deal... but I read that CJ is owed 9 million (and BoSox are responsible). Kim, as I read, is owed 5 million for '05.

This is like one of those elementary school problems. If the train leaves Boston for Tampa Bay at 2:00 p.m., how much are the Devil Rays paying for C.J.?

$316,000.

The major league minimum.
