You're taking the scenario I built out of context. These two hypothetical players hit the same ball at the same velocity to the same fielder, but one runs 0.8 seconds faster. The second player has the obvious advantage to, for instance, beat the same throw to first.

You can run to 1B in two seconds but if you hit it at the 1B who is already on the bag- your out. Speed kills, but it's irrelevant when factoring in BA and BABIP. Yes it helps get you on base, but if you don't hit it right your going to be left with squalls soft serve shit all over your hands.
