  1. just in: johan santana out for the year, but will be ready for next year. New York Mets ace Johan Santana is headed for elbow surgery and is out for the year. The Mets said Tuesday that Santana will have arthroscopic surgery to clean up bone chips in his left elbow. The team said his expected to ready for spring training next year. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-mets-santanasurgery&prov=ap&type=lgns
  2. johan santana is the latest to go down, as you probably know, he's not starting tomorrow, and there's a chance he won't pitch until 2011 if he has to get tommy john. Johan Santana(notes) and Jeff Francoeur(notes) are the latest Mets stars to be sidelined with injuries. Santana was scratched Monday from his next scheduled start because of discomfort in his pitching elbow. Francoeur has a torn ligament in his left thumb, leaving New York without its right fielder and top hitter. The setback involving Santana is particularly alarming for the fourth-place Mets, who are counting on the two-time Cy Young Award winner to lead their rotation for years to come. “He has not been throwing between starts for quite awhile. I would say since before the All-Star break. He has been pitching with this problem, but not with the level of discomfort he has now, New York manager Jerry Manuel said Monday after his team’s 6-2 loss to Philadelphia. “Now, it concerns him. Santana had been slated to pitch Tuesday night in Florida. Instead, the left-hander will be examined by Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek, and right-hander Nelson Figueroa(notes) will start against the Marlins. “I hope to have some definitive word for you tomorrow, Manuel said. The Mets have 11 players on the disabled list, including David Wright(notes), Carlos Beltran(notes), Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado(notes), J.J. Putz(notes) and John Maine(notes). http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-mets-santanascratched&prov=ap&type=lgns i'm starting to feel a bit sorry for the mets, just about every name player on that team has been injured this year, and i'm starting to think citi field is cursed.
  3. The golfer Ernie Els is the worst for saying "you know". tim hudson would challenge him for that.
  4. Turner Field has to have the worst lighting in baseball. Night games always look terrible on camera. that's because there are no outfield lights. i wonder why they never built them though, but something tells me it's linked to the olympic games.
  5. braves lineup infante church chipper mac roachy esco diaz gorecki javy
  6. a friend of mine is running a yahoo! fantasy football league and we are looking for four more teams before the live draft next sunday at 5:30 et. we are looking for active owners that will not quit if their team is too far behind. league id: 640685 password: eagles thanks!
  7. a sweep would likely be the end of the loser's nl east hopes and put them in a huge hole in the wild card. i don't see any locks for any of the games this weekend for any team, the pitching matchups are about even, i think it's going to come down to the late innings. i personally say that we (the braves) take 2 of 3 this series.
  8. some eagles fans are not happy with the vick signing, with some boycotting the team due to it. a bit overreactive i say. i would give him a second chance, but i would balk due to his previous lack of good decision skills (ron mexico and the pot and other things), and he was an overhyped qb anyway. i wonder if they will slash vick...
  9. i don't care for the dolphins either way, but thumbs down on the 'new' fight song. it's not even new, it's like the first fight song (which was ripped off the oliers btw), was put in dance/club remix form. i was thinking i was going to hear new lyrics or something like that, and plus, it didn't seem like fight song quality to me. it's an okay song though, but not as the dolphins new fight song. I love when people say things they know nothing about. The song was written for the Dolphins by a fan/songwriter. Back then the Dolphins said they didn't want the song, so the artist took it to the Oilers. The Oilers took the song and later the Dolphins decided they changed their mind and started playing it as well. He never got paid by either team. (Yes, incase anyone was wondering, I was also an Oiler's fan when I was younger. I was actually a bigger Oilers fan than a Dolphin fan until the team left Houston.) thanks for clearing that up. but i still think the new song sucks as a fight song.

  11. i'm shocked that nobody has posted this at all over the weekend, better late than never. after that horrendous start against the yankees on thursday where gave up 8 er in 3 1/3 innings in the bronx, he was dfa'ed by the sox. he was done before the year started, and this horrible year for him in boston (8.32 era) just proves that wren was right for not offering him tons of money for a washed up pitcher. smoltz was great and will probably be in the hof first ballot, but he had to know when to step back and not let his last mlb memories be of him choking in the bronx, almost like glavine in 2007. also, i'm shocked that teams actually want him, and thankfully, the braves aren't one of them. we don't need pitching help, since hudson is coming back and smoltz would actually make things worse based on recent performance. any team that picks him up smells of desperation move at this point.
  12. i wonder what the food is tonight...flax seed oil shipped from san fran?
  13. Congrats to Holly, wherever she is. Probably violating the terms of Hermida's restraining order. she would actually do that to that poor man? his wife would beat her up (assuming there's a mrs. hermida).
  14. HOW CAN A MUTT FAN WIN MY AWARD?! off the rant, congrats to the met fan. i think he earned it this year.
  15. hi, rab, am i too late?
  16. through seven, shields have only allowed three baserunner, all on walks. game is on sun sports btw.
  17. jesus f***ing christ hermida, could you go any more lacksidasical to the ball? Our RF'er lives in his own place and time. The rest of us can't comprehend what he's thinking. sounds just like frenchy. i'm sorry, but i think you may have to get rid of him soon...
  18. *insert obligatory JEREMEY HERMIDA IS COMING AROUND!!! comment* after he does something non sucky for a change* sounds like you guys have your own version of frenchy wars around here...
  19. pirates are a joke. i would find a new team if i was a pirate fan (esp. if you're under 25).
  20. btw, prado and church are hurt and not available. so we're playing the b squad tonight.
  21. they should call kk, bb for benshin bawabami. he walks too many people.
  22. i saw the game live on thursday, and i didn't like it. i admit, i wanted that perfect game broken up all the way to the last out, and i was a bit frustrated when it happened, but i tip my cap to a great game pitched by mr. buehrle. i've seen two perfect games in my life, both of them i hated because they were pitched against teams i like. i want to see one perfect game where my stomach is in knots hoping that it happens. I'm guessing the other one was Randy Johnson against the Braves? yup. it's not that i hate a perfect game, i just don't want it happening at the expense of my team getting embarrassed. i tip my cap to the pitchers that throw perfect games, it's a remarkable accomplishment that few have obtained, i just don't cheer for them during the game if my team is the one getting perfectoed, especially if the team still has a chance to win the game.
  23. How is Jeff Francour making 3 mill? arbitration. he's making way too much for bad play, and we (the braves) would be paying much more for him if he took the deal we had for him a while back, similar to the brian mccann contract. we needed to trade frenchy, he was a liability on and off the field and clubhouse cancer. we tried dealing with his poor play and poor attitude for over a year, and it wasn't working. for those that don't know, we sent down frenchy last year because he was batting .220 or something like that. he whined that he was betrayed because he was demoted, and decided to spite the braves from that moment on. he had no future here, even though he's the pretty boy star here (or was). btw, #7 should be banned in atlanta, first vick and now frenchy. both were hyped up, then declined, and mutt killing made their play irrelevant.
