From 1999 to present they played (play) at AA Arena, seating capacity of 20,000, averaging 76% of capacity in their worst season (2003-04). (note: I got the capacities from Wikipedia, correct me if I'm wrong). Seems to me Miami hasn't had any trouble supporting a basketball team either. Give the Marlins a stadium with a roof so people won't be threatened by rain delays and the support will be there. I am 100% certain of this. At 76% capacity (the Heat's worst season in attendance) the Marlins would average over 28,000 per game. Is that being optimistic? I don't think so. I think the inaugural season we can easily average 25,000 or above. These are horrible attendance numbers for the NBA. Except for the 04-05 Season. Not so much anymore, since they have been contenders and won a championship, but the Heat are usually in the bottom 2 for game attendance in the NBA. Just for some perspective.
  2. Tucker, Hernandez, Corcreaux and a few others need to go. lol.. Marceaux? Damnit. Yes. I mix up him and Cocoran. :lol I cannot wait to see Marceaux leave...
  3. I think I'll be okay with anyone in your top 4 right now. I am really interested to see what De Aza is going to do these next few weeks. If I had to bet now, Fredi will start Borchard or Sanchez. I don't think he will be too into taking many gambles with guys like Abercrombie or De Aza, but if they keep producing into the season, things could continue to get interesting.
  4. So you'd rather give a guy a spot by defalut because he's had one or two good games 3 years ago? That's brilliant. You know what else is brilliant? Giving the ball to a 23 year old kid with 26 innings of experience in which he has given up 28 EARNED runs and 46 hits. Let's give the ball to a kid who has had 2 DECENT outings that only lasted 1 inning each. That's a much better decision. here's an idea... give the ball to who EARNS it. I wish that's the way professional baseball worked. But it doesn't work that way. If it did, Wood, De Aza, Borchard, and Carroll would all be starting the season, opening day. And, I definitely don't think Petit has earned it. Not even close. Considering both have stunk in their major league appearance, whoever pitches better this spring will probably get the job(this includes Jose Garcia too) and why would Wood, De Aza, Borchard, and Carroll all start? That's ridiculous and you know it. Garcia definitely deserves to be in the talk for the 5th spot, I think. Petit pitched great today, he really did, and I got more excited than anyone about his 3 innings. But, 3 good innings in ST doesn't make anyone a starter, unless your Dice-K of course. Ha. I know it is ridiculous. That's my point. All of these guys have been productive and shown great effort this spring. If anyone has earned a spot based on this Spring, they have.

  7. I'm not ready to crown Petit the fifth starter just yet. I'd like to see a few more consistant starts out of him before then. If we want to crown him, we'll crown his ass. That is all. We need to see more from Petit. I know I might get assassinated for saying it on this board, but I think Mitre will start the season and should. Petit has shown nothing in the Big Leagues, and Mitre has at least shutdown a handfew of games in his career. Petit will end up getting the nod with consistent outings out of the pen, and hopefully he will get that nod in April, but I think you have to suffer with Mitre for a time, instead of just throwing the kid out there, as a solid rotation thrower. We also do not want Mitre in the pen to start things off. He is a far worse reliever than he is a starter. Anyone else disappointed in how Gregg looked today? It was beyond horrible. I know he has a horrible career line, but all Petit did today was something Mitre could have done and has done in REAL games in the past. April 10th, 2004 against ATL: 7.2 IP, 5 hits, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K June 8th, 2005 against TOT: 7.0, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K and of course we can't forget... June 14th, 2005 against FLA: 9.0 IP, 5 hits, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K Mitre has done this before, that's why he will and should get at least the nod to start the season, and will likely get a couple of starts at the very minimum. I still Petit needs to prove himself, before we start calling him the 5th Starter. If by "shutdown" you mean "started" then OK. He's started 25 career games, has a career ERA over 6 and has a career WHIP over 1.6

  9. Why must our bats be so quiet We're just lulling everyone into a false sense of security It's the Fredi Gonzalez strategy April 2nd we will explode We have 11 hits in the game so far, only 9 of them are singles, while we left 11 guys on base. The O's exploded for 3 2B's and a 3B off George early, I really thought he was going to have a decent outing.
  10. Who is starting today anyways? Chris George Nolasco was scratched due to back spasms I cannot believe Nolasco is having spasms... it seriously incriminates my mind. The team with most pitching depth in the NL Systems is now watching our starting staff fall like the Berlin wall. I really cannot believe this news. ON a side note... Chris George gets the nod today, I am so excited. Look out for his return.
  11. What happened... I have lost everything from 2-0, since Olsen has been out.
  12. 2-0 Cards after 2 What happened? Olivo hit into a DP?
  13. Thanks, Ramp.
  14. Is there radio for this game, or you guys using MLB.TV?
  15. We also need to start worrying about 2B... already got that guy in the minors :thumbup Who Psomas? Coghlan (considering he could move from 3rd, which he probably can? I'm probably missing someone. Who do you see coming up in our infiled Ramp? I was talking about Coghlan I like Coghlan. I really loved Uggla's power last season for a 2B, and I think I am a little spoiled because of that, since Coghlan has the power of Eric Reed's 4 year old son, but his BB:K ratio is incredible, which leads to his good averages and fantastic OPS for a minor league rookie. I believe he will play through Greensboro and Jupiter this year and start in Carolina for 08' finding his way to the Big Club late in the season. I just wish he could develop a little more power (he only had 5 doubles and 1 triple with no homers in his 30 games last year). There any other options out there, you're looking for? (I really respect your expertise!)

  17. The Mariners are desperate for bullpen help, and will continue to be so as their pen is aging rapidly. I say we send Lindstrom and/or Scott Tyler for Reed, even if he ends up as a back-up, because even with Reed, we have NO ONE who is consistent for CF. I know a lot of people are high on Sanchez or a Ross/Borchard platoon, or if Reggie pans out... but even at their best, they will not be consistently good enough, and most likely Jeremy Reed will not be either, but it's worth it, even if he is streaky. We need to start building our OF quality. We also need to start worrying about 2B... watch out for a rapid and ugly Uggla decline this year. The 06 magic is over on him.
  18. I believe JJ was going to produce on the back end of our rotation. I think Olsen and Willis will have stellar years, and Sanchez will also pitch well. I don't think he will produce above any of those 3. I think we saw a glimpse of his ceiling last year. None of his pitches (except his two seamer) have the action and movement it takes to consistently make it tough on Big League hitters. It is very likely that Mitre will start the season in the rotation, I don't think he will stay there for long (or at least I hope not), but I believe he will start there. We will probably mix around Petit, Garcia, George, Mitre and some others until the break. If JJ isn't healthy by the All-Star break, look for Gaby (with good AA production) to come up and take the 5th spot.
  19. Hey Admin, what do you think 07 looks like for Olivo? Do you think we will see him jump into the .275 - .285 range with a little bit of power?
  20. What are the lines for the pitchers? When did Obermueller go out? Once again, thanks so much for you guys doing the pbp for these games, it really helps out this working Orlando fan who gets no action on games.
  21. In reply to the Orlando Magic signature... Vince won't be coming to Orlando, we won't pay for him. We would've already done it. And besides wouldn't we rather have Rashard Lewis for half the price, so we can have a big, tall, effective, and younger shooting guard. I know this isn't a Magic board, and no one probably cares... PG Jameer Nelson SG Rashard Lewis SF Trevor Ariza PF Dwight Howard C Darko Milicic Beautiful
  22. Once again, I agree with all of this. I just think that this board started throwing up on Orlando's feet without any regard of information. I fully believe the Marlins will stay in Miami for a long time, and hopefully succeed inside of a new stadium. I was just making the point that what is happening with the Marlins right now and in the past 4 years could easily happen here in Orlando. And yes, I know. Why would any franchise want that? Why would a franchise spend millions and millions of dollars to move to a market that would not be that much better, more likely the same? I want to see the Marlins stay in SoFla, and I would be one of the first to call it a dumb move, to head up anywhere, especially Orlando. I am just saying that the lackluster fiscal support in Miami for the Marlins could be acheived in any mid-major market, Orlando included.
  23. I don't think anyone has posted this except a quick mention, but if the Marlins stay true to 4 days rest for the front four in the rotation, this is the 5th starter run down for the first two months of the season. April 11th - Milwaukee April 17th - @ Houston April 22nd - Washington May 2nd - @ Muts May 8th - Los Angeles May 13th - @ Washington May 18th - @ Tampa Bay May 24/25th - Muts/Philadelphia May 29/30th - @ Chicago If JJ is going to miss some time, he can literally sit out April and it's not going to hurt us. Mitre does a solid job vs RHB (lefties hit .355 against him, righties .249, with a huge .350-.400 point OPS difference) and Milwaukee, Houston, and Washington have 2 strong lefties (Prince, Berkman) and a few moderate ones (Jenkins, Lamb, L. Scott, Church, etc), so matchup wise it works out alright. Two of the games at home is even more helpful. Secondly, if JJ checks out and is 100% opening day, this strengthens the Nolasco to the pen argument as he would be used 3 times before May and could vastly serve the team better pitching 12-15 IP out of the pen (closer or not). By then, we'd probably have a better understanding of how Tank, J. Garcia, Owens, and Pinto are going to respond, to see if one/all of them are ready for greater responsibility where's we could shift Ricky back if we don't like what we're seeing out of Mitre (or Petit) in the '5th' rotation spot. Basic point is, I don't see any problems if JJ has a non-serious arm injury and is out 3-6 weeks as long as Train-Anibal-Olsen-Nolasco are healthy opening day. I actually kind of like the side effect of seeing some of the other arms. Not that I want JJ to be hurt, but it would only help our evaluation process of everyone else. I totally agree with you, Lou. This really is a great time for JJ to fully recover, and I would much rather see him recover to his full capabalities then risk a later injury. I am really anxious to see what Petit can do in a semi-consistent rotation spot, and I would love to to see Mitre get a couple (healthy) shots at starting, as well as Chris George. On a different note, I have heard that Alex Sanchez is looking fantastic in camp...
  24. I'm just tired of driving 3 1/2 hours to see a Marlins game, and finding the stadium with many empty seats. I'm not saying the Marlins should move, or any team should move to Orlando. Everyone is just so adamant that SoFla is the only place the Marlins will succeed, and the fact that the MLB has put pressure on them for years to either get a stadium, in hopes that produces long term numbers or move somewhere else, testifies for a different story. I mean last year, we were the story of Baseball, and in 2004, fresh off a series, with big pieces of the team still in place. I just hope you guys are right and the stadium drastically improves game attendance, because I know the actual baseball of the Marlins can't.
  25. It will be Petit or Mitre, if there is anyone. I have heard there is a possibility of going with just a 4 man rotation, since they have the 5th and the 12th off, and they wouldn't need to use a 5th man until the series with the Astros, and hopefully JJ will be ready to go by then.
