  1. Fred Wilpon is getting his bailout with, pending league approval, the sale of roughly 33% of the New York Mets to hedge fund manager David Einhorn for $200 million. This is essentially a three-year loan. At the end of the period, there are two options: 1) Wilpon can buy back half of Einhorn's stake for $200 million, giving Einhorn 16% of the team as essentially loan interest. 2) Einhorn can up his stake to 60% and take control of the Mets for $1. Essentially, if Wilpon's taken to the cleaners in the Madoff lawsuit, he's screwed.
  2. What he's always done is awesome. This is a new level of awesome.
  3. He earned about $3.5 million over 6 MLB years. Not bad for a totally mediocre career. However, jerking a team around and signing a contract (that was for at least $65,000) only to quit 2 days later doesn't say good things about him. Better than quitting after flunking a second roids test. A lot of what Gross got for his career comes from his brief flashes of brilliance in the Rays' miracle 2008 run.
  4. I'd bet against Publix, which is at best a regional brand. They may be a "regional" brand, but many companies would kill for the resources and reputation Publix has. It is one of the largest private corporations in the world, after all, and very high on the Fortune 500 (#99 in 2010).
  5. :shifty Sheen taught him Warlock powers yesterday. At 14-7, can we call the Marlins "bi-winning"? :mischief I have never seen a bottom 9 like that... if that LF stays put with his eyes closed & glove in the air he catches it sandlot style. You're killing me, Smalls!
  6. Apparently Giambi has forgotten this dude's prudishly closed strike zone.
  7. Two well in the strike zone according to MLB Gameday. Of course the first pitch LOOKED like he blew the call. Let's get Bieber Fever into a DP.
  8. I tune in and we have a nice pitchers' duel going on. Except Ubaldo has thrown about 20 more pitches through three innings. Let's keep things going, JJ. :mischief
  9. The hilarious part is, Edward Mujica is the only reliever that suffered a hit. Yet he was the one there to vulture a win. I honestly hope you didn't pay much for Javier Vazquez. Or there are going to be some excruciating moments. Yeah, Mujica pitched terribly bro. 1 inning, 1 hit, 12 strikes, 4 balls. Just awful. Rays have won 4 in a row. Go away. In fact, go away regardless. I'm not trying to troll the team or anything. I just don't have a high opinion of Mujica in particular, and for very good reason as I have stated elsewhere. And our bullpen's record would state otherwise. Pitching is nowhere near the Rays' problem this year.

  11. Alright, when I found out the Fish got Javier Vazquez and Edward Mujica, I started banging my head against the wall. WHY OH WHY? Javier Vazquez is one of the most unreliable starters in baseball today (look up the "yankees lose flow chart" on Google). And the main memory I have of Edward Mujica is him giving up a three run lead in the bottom of the 9th inning to the Rays in 2008 with no outs. My opinion, you would've been better off promoting a couple AAAers. Any AAAers.
  12. The starting poll would've been funnier with multiple iterations of JJ's name. :mischief
  13. FAU totally owned UAB. Not an upset in the least. UAB is the dregs of C-USA. :mischief
  14. Gaby is obviously Bradshaw/John Bradshaw Layfield. Mike and Mike yesterday invoked Cowboy Bob Orton and his "bionic arm". :mischief
  15. ESPN released an article this morning on Logan Morrison, with a focus on his father Tom, who is fighting Stage 4 lung cancer. Apparently Tom wants to spend next year, what time he has left, shuttling around the country to watch Logan play wherever he can.
  16. Rays did well after Dallas Braden's perfect game. You guys will be okay over the long run.
  17. What the **** was he doing?
  18. Oh boy, here it comes... Dan Uggla vs Kenshin Kawakami...
  19. Duh... Hanley, seriously...
  20. Is it just me, or does Kenshin Kawakami have one of the worst pickoff moves in the majors?
  21. Oh my god that was bad. 1-0 Marlins :gofish
  22. Learn when to take a pitch, Gaby. 1 out.
  23. Hinske totally misplayed that.
  24. Tom Seaver also threw a no-no after he left the Mets. You could include Doc Gooden on that list if you want.
