  1. Child advocacy groups are blasting the NFL's choice of The Who as the Super Bowl XLIV halftime show. Why? Because Pete Townshend was convicted of possession of child porn in the UK in 2003, and registered as a sex offender from 2003 through 2008. They say that by U.S. immigration law, he shouldn't even be allowed to enter the United States (and why he was allowed for the Kennedy Center Honors in 2008 mystifies the same groups; they protested that, too). And under Florida Statute 775.21, he must register as a sex offender even if his status as a sex offender elsewhere has elapsed. The commentary article above states that the NFL may want to reconsider, especially since child advocacy groups will likely go after them and all their sponsors if they do not rectify the situation. Personally I don't know the exact nuances of INS law as it relates to admitting convicted sex offenders, but certainly they wouldn't have given Pete Townshend special treatment and let him in the country in flaunting the law, would they?
  2. You like pointing out when things "don't matter". If you're not going to contribute constructively, don't contribute. Or is it your nature as a Nats fan to troll NL East message boards? The point was the whole irony of a conference on global warming greeted by below-average temperatures and punctuated by a snowstorm that would serve as a prelude to a continent-wide blizzard that would kill north of 100 people and shut down Eurostar. That doesn't even touch the forests they killed to print out all their pamphlets and the thousands of copies of each hundreds-pages proposed agreement draft, and the thousands of tons of carbon they pumped into the air with the conference itself and all the private jets (plus Air Force One) and individual limos they used to get there and back.
  3. The nonsense is that a vast majority of the leaders in Copenhagen used private jets. I think the only warmer that flew commercially was Harry Reid. And even he used a limo once he got there.
  4. The letters are FUNKY! :mischief
  5. In the case of Obama and Pelosi, early so they could avoid the blizzard presently hitting D.C. with nearly 2 feet of snow.
  6. I don't care about the home run celebration thing (as long as they play Jimmy Buffett's "Fins" during it). But those tile floors?! They gave me a freaking seizure!
  7. This weekend, we get the party started on the Bowl season. Saturday, we have the New Mexico Bowl (Fresno State-Wyoming) at 4:30pm, and the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl (formerly St. Petersburg Bowl, UCF-Rutgers) at 8pm. Sunday, we have the New Orleans Bowl (Southern Miss-Middle Tennessee State) at 8:30pm. But first, on Friday, Villanova will face Montana in Chattanooga for the FCS (I-AA) championship.
  8. I'm mad at the BCS though for screwing up bowl games, again. Why not put TCU or Boise vs Florida and Cincy? Instead we get TCU vs Boise State for the 3rd time in about 5 years. They should be able to show the world if they really deserved being top seeded teams by going up with two elite teams. The Fiesta Bowl chose TCU vs. Boise State as a shadow national championship, most likely. This actually makes sense, since the WAC were the original progenitors of the Fiesta Bowl (hence, Boise State over Cincinnati). You're lucky. They could've chosen Iowa, since they have the Big XII tie-in. But with Texas in the national title game, they're not bound by their normal tie-in.
  9. The G77, a group of developing nations representing 130 countries in Africa, South America, southern Asia and the South Pacific, have pulled out of Copenhagen negotiations. They cited the lack of open negotiations and the developed world's utter unwillingness to continue to live up to their Kyoto obligations. Some analysts believe they will be back soon.
  10. I wish Tiger were smarter than this. He had to have known that something bad would happen sleeping around like that. Money and fame do not make you invincible. In fact, they make you the most vulnerable. You hope somebody would finally learn this lesson, but you know they never will.
  11. Here's politics in terms you can understand: They take your money and your freedom, with They = Republicans and Democrats. It's really that simple.
  12. The graphics look far too video-gamey to me. It's like James Cameron went so far in an attempt to make it look as realistic as possible that he long since passed by "realistic". The An Inconvenient Truth and Fahrenheit 9/11 crowd (Humans, largely American in appearance and culture, going to war with another planet to conquer and plunder them) Excuse me? That was largely a joke, and also a poke as what I perceive as an attempt by James Cameron to cater to all with Avatar.
  13. Orlando Rays posted a topic in Off-Topic
It's become obvious that James Cameron with Avatar has tried to make a film that caters to all demographics: The Twilight crowd (the romance subplot) The Star Trek crowd (it's set on a distant planet in the distant future...it also features Trek's Zoe Saldaña) The Transformers crowd (the serious mechas that are shown) The Terminator crowd (huge explosions and shoot-em-ups) The An Inconvenient Truth and Fahrenheit 9/11 crowd (Humans, largely American in appearance and culture, going to war with another planet to conquer and plunder them)
  14. I'm at work at this moment and can't see YouTube stuff, so I will look at that later. As for the latest on Climategate, Al Gore went on the record trying to refute the e-mails. The problem is, he falsely states that the e-mails are all older than 10 years old, when in reality the e-mails in question are as recent as a few weeks ago and the vast majority of those actually publicized are no more than a year old. The range of e-mails in question date from 1996 to 2009.
  15. What, too lazy to click the links it sources?
  16. You might want to reconsider your opinion. Kevin Jennings personally addressed the media when the GLSEN was taken to task for providing "fisting kits", packages with instructions and paraphanelia to engage in the sexual act of fisting, in 2000. Yet, in 2001, GLSEN continued to hand out fisting kits to children and teachers at its conferences. Just because some people use controversies like this to push hateful agendas doesn't make everyone who thinks alike a hatemonger. The fact of the matter is, this happened under Kevin Jennings' watch, with his full knowledge. This is not the person who should be in charge of government initiatives involving schools.
  17. So we're still going with the "Completely pointless part". I only said it was funny.
  18. The hilarious part: the local escort union is offering free sex with anybody with a badge for the conference. I believe this is actually the "Completely pointless part". Or perhaps "The part that sounds like you are making up." Guess again. They did it in response to some Churchgoers saying "Be sustainable, don't buy sex."

  20. I really don't think I can explain this myself without vomiting. Suffice to say Kevin Jennings, President Obama's "Safe Schools Czar", is a pervert. The link shows a ton of explicit evidence that he went to a 2000 conference where he made material promoting explicit sexual activities, pedophilia and prostitution to children. The worst part is, he did it under the auspices of his organization, the "Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network". That really gives homosexuals a bad name.
  21. The orgy of hypocrisy at the Copenhagen climate conference has begun. There will be at least 1,200 additional limousines--all petrol or diesel--on the streets, and at least 140 extra private jets at Copenhagen's main airport not including Air Force One. The estimates by climate skeptics, using the Church's own calculations, is that they will burn an additional 41,000 metric tons of CO2 over the course of the conference, the equivalent of an entire middle-sized city in that timeframe. (they quote Middlesborough as an example; West Palm Beach would make a local equivalent) All this to try to hammer out a deal that again would not be signed by China or India, or most developing countries, to attempt to change a problem that may or may not exist, and is under open suspicion now that the cooking of the books has been exposed. The hilarious part: the local escort union is offering free sex with anybody with a badge for the conference.
  22. You should post some of your stadium ideas here.
  23. The Rowdies arrrrrrre... a kick in the grass! :mischief
  24. Looks like there are contrary reports: http://abcnews.go.co...tory?id=9207734 That's a report from earlier in the day.
  25. ACORN's major beef with the "pimp and ho" sting operation this summer is that it was deceptive journalism, and thus should not be taken seriously. The funny thing is, ACORN participated with Dateline NBC in 2003 in using the exact same tactics to uncover high-interest tax refund anticipation loans at Jackson Hewitt.
