Halladay's a hall of famer so no shame really. The bats sure are in a funk lately though, offense has seemed pretty streaky this season.

This is the kind of thing I feared when I heard the Phillies had traded for Roy Halladay.

 

Congrats to him, but I honestly can't say I'm happy about the situation.

The moves by Fredi at the end of the game were PERPLEXING. I would have put in Wes Helms for Hayes, let Cameron hit, and then put in Ronny Paulino.

 

As someone else said, this team really needs some help here. They're pitching decently well (the starters, at least), but they can't hit AT ALL. Something needs to be done and it needs to be done ASAP if we want to have any chance of the playoffs this season.

In terms of his tenure in the majors this year, yes.

it's really the opposite of what most people predicted.... figured we'd hit plenty (basically the same as last season) and our pitching would be the question mark. Instead the rotation has settled in pretty well and it's the offense that can't seem to get on track.

BTW, back-to-back series lost against NL east teams.

This team sucks. With that said, this is the first time I've watched my team get no hit or worse, and I'm amazed that it wasn't as painful as I would have imagined.

Why? He's 4 for his last 27 and played like sh*t tonight. He deserved to be yanked.

It sucks that it had to be against the Marlins, but by the 8th inning I was really rooting for the perfect game. Halladay is a class act and deserves this.

I would have preferred anyone else on the team to have made the error other than Maybin. He seems like the type of person who could let this really get to him and not let it go.

The only thing Fredi did wrong was not instruct guys to lean in to pitches or better yet, that he did instruct them to dive out of the way of pitches. Hanley almost wound up in the dirt getting out of the way of one and Cantu could've taken the PG away by just standing his ground. No team ever wants to be embarrassed let alone wind up in the history books for all the wrong reasons (not to mention in the national media for a second time this month for something derogatory). We're now there in both regards.

If it would've been against a guy like JA Happ or Kyle Kendrick, it would've been extremely painful, but this was against the best pitcher in the major leagues. We knew we would have very few hits. Obviously none of us expected this, but he's Roy Freaking Halladay. We got to learn from the mistakes this game brought the team, take it as a wake up call, and move on.

I always thought to myself at Baseball Games, what will my reaction be if the opposing team is throwing a no hitter or perfect game against the Fish. Before tonight I always thought I'd be cheering for the opposing pitcher when that last hitter was up and I'd be happy I got to witness history but tonight I can say I am heartbroken to see live Roy Halladay throw the 20th Perfect Game in MLB history.

Now we're all impatient and upset, but when all cool heads prevail, we all know that the first time we can even think about Stanton being called up is tomorrow (when the Super Two status may possibly go away), but more than likely June 5th is the day, so Friday cannot come any faster goddamnit.

That's nice and all, and I fully agree, but if not for Maybin, we're still playing.

 

On a bright note...I think it's 24 or 25 innings now without allowing an earned run for Josh Johnson. I can't believe he gets the loss for this game; he was awesome, too.

Rays did well after Dallas Braden's perfect game. You guys will be okay over the long run.

It's Halladay. You want him out of the game. If Maybin makes that play, we're still playing right now and Halladay isn't. Not to mention how failing that hard kills the morale of the rest of the team and is a great precursor to a frustrated pitcher melting down. Luckily we had a guy named Josh Johnson out there.

 

Halladay is great and congrats to him and all. I'm not trying to take anything away from him as he did just make history but he had a bunch of help doing it. Maybin, the umpire, and Cantu and Hanley (for diving out of the way of pitches that should have hit them), etc.
