  1. If this is true, and Obama succeeds in forestalling a withdrawl agreement until after the election, one of two things will happen: 1) (As described in the article above) It will take time for Obama or McCain to build their Administration, then they have to wait for the new Iraqi government to build its Administration before they begin new negotiations, and no troop withdrawls will happen until 2010 at the very earliest, 2011 more likely. Of course, with full troop strength during the Iraqi elections, it's likely phased reduction of troop strength can begin soon if the situation remains stable. 2) If it's Obama, he may plan to rip all our troops out at once, destabilizing the country at a time when it is changing governments again, and tossing Iraq to the wolves, essentially defeating the purpose of the troop surge. While this is the anti-war left's wet dream, to make Iraq the total disaster they want it to be, it will also be counter-intuitive to Obama's goal to restore America's reputation on the global stage.
  2. The U.S. didn't bomb Serbia. NATO did. VERY VERY different Technically that is the case but I believe they were US bombs and planes. However, it makes little difference in context of the point I'm trying to make. The interests of NATO and the United States are becoming more or less interchangeable. NATO is not as dependent on the United States as you think. And the bombing was back when Slobodan Milosevic was in power, the same idiot that tried to do ethnic cleansing in Bosnia (and likely tried the same in Kosovo). NATO hasn't bombed Serbia since Clinton was our president.
  3. On Fox Soccer Channel, they are beginning the CONCACAF Champions League. They finally moved from a full knockout format to a league format. :mischief
  4. I think the point of the earned income tax credit is to provide an incentive to work among the working poor and to avoid having to give them in-kind or direct welfare benefits when they could just earn that income themselves. You really have extremist views. Even conservative Republicans are in favor of earned income tax credits, because they recognize that it is important to keep the working poor employed and making sure they have enough money to live on. There is a societal benefit in having people work, both in terms of what it does to communities and how it effects the children of such working class people. It is also a tool to keep working families from living in poverty. I guess you don't care about that. There was a time when the richest among us paid 91% of their income to Uncle Sam. Relatively speaking, they've got it made these days. This country doesn't need to mess with the people's taxes anymore. (EDIT: Thinking about it again, I see how lower individual income taxes create jobs, by giving more money to spend, but these days it may not be enough.) What needs to happen is a decrease of corporate taxes. This nation's businesses, even with all those derided "government subsidies", have the second-highest tax burden by percentage of revenue in the world, barely edged by Japan as the highest.

  6. Money...that's all there is to it. Anyways, FIU opens their new stadium this Saturday. I can't wait! For one, I hope Grothe gets his fat mouth shut. But somehow I don't see it happening. :mischief And I'd love to see Conference USA trade UAB to the Sun Belt for FAU, and the Owls and the Knights having the rivalry USF is going to regret passing up. :mischief And I understand the money concept, especially with UCF having Boston College this weekend and Miami down the line, but three of them this year, and all on the road?
  7. I told you Ohio State was overrated. I doubt their AD is smart enough to fire the sweater vest, though. :mischief AP Poll Top 25 as of September 14, 2008 (first-place votes) 1. Both of you are weird as hell and make no sense. You live in a city that houses the greatest, most storied baseball team of all-time and you root for the Marlins and Rays?! Crazy talk! I love my Fish more than anyone, but I would be a Yankee fan if I lived up there. And you call me a mercenary. :mischief .
  9. How many no hitters has there been this year and who got them? I cant remember Two: Jon Lester and Carlos Zambrano. Last year there were three: Mark Buehrle, Justin Verlander and Clay Buchholz.
  10. Enjoy the jubilation while it lasts, Cubs fans...because come October, you'll be crying like you do every year...I'm thinking first round sweep. I say Rays over Cubs in 6 in the World Series. :mischief
  11. World War II was a hell of a long time ago. Did you not read the part of the article that said company officials said they have atoned for past history and should not be judged on their WWII history? To call them "Nazi backers" is a bit ridiculous. This. All I know of this company is that they own the naming rights to the Bayern Munich football stadium - The Allianz Arena That is an impressive building - its appearance from the outside changes colours Ironically, Meadowlands Stadium has the same technology, inspired by this very stadium. :mischief
  12. This is hardly as impressive as the Rox run last year. The Rox came up a lot faster. Now if the Blue Jays beat out the Sox for the AL Wild Card... THAT will be more impressive.
  13. He's not a Rays fan, he's a merc. Last year he was Orlando Fish, this year Orlando Rays, and next he will be Orlando Sox, I imagine. Last year I was "Kitch". The Rays are my #1 team. The Marlins are my NL team. :mischief
  14. I would've suggested BJ's, but I didn't know if they'd made it to Miami yet. :mischief My house has gone for Insignia, though personally I'm impressed by Vizio.
  15. *makes Orlanda Rays bff* *backs away sloooooooowly* :mischief
  16. Orlando Rays replied to Joe's topic in Sports
He's going to the home stadium, not to Yankee Stadium. He won't be in this series.
  17. I got Cassel, but I didn't get Royal. Instead, I waived Watson for WR Hank Baskett (Philly).
  18. He owes a lot to Justin Speier Speier turned so many 4 or 5 run games into saves. And even closer games into losses. You and I know one in particular. :mischief
  19. Not likely you will find manufacturer financing. I'd go to Wal-Mart and pick up a Vizio, or get an Insignia from Best Buy.
  20. K-Rod gets save #57 It happened last night. One more to break Bobby Thigpen's single season record. But... Did we need that close a look at his out-of-line chicklets? Dude, you can afford some InvisAlign. :mischief

I am going to Rays vs Yankees on Sunday in my Longoria jersey, I hope I get out of there alive! It would be less likely if it were Boston. Just don't talk smack, and you'll be fine. :mischief
  22. Orlando Rays replied to Joe's topic in Sports
I ended up watching all 14 innings too.
  23. Orlando Rays replied to Joe's topic in Sports
No, it doesn't mean that, but it does mean that the MLB should get a salary cap. Spending money isn't a bad thing, but every team should be allowed to spend just as much as all the others. Actually...I think this season has proven that it's not about the money...it's about how you spend the money. It's why the Rays are in first...and the Yankees are basically done. It's why the Twins are still competing. It's why the A's would probably still be doing well had they not traded Rich Harden (which had nothing to do with money...that was just stupid). It's also the reason why the Marlins stayed in the race for so long...despite the fact that 60% of their starting rotation missed an entire half. If you build it correctly...you'll succeed, regardless of how much is spent. Plus...small market teams DO get revenue sharing money from the larger market teams. So it's not as if they're getting no help. Getting a share of playoff revenue will also help. :thumbup
  24. The dude should take that as a sign from God. :mischief
  25. Do it. Ocho Cinco won't be that big this year, but getting him AND Frank Gore will make it worth all the while. This is a steal.
