So, you guys are game-threading the fate of the franchise? :mischief It's RALLY TIME! :marlins Yes. If this gets passed, it's a 99.999999999% probability the stadium gets built, but it won't be 100% until shovel hits dirt in June 2009.

Roberto Alomar has AIDS
Still, one has to wonder about Robbie and, assuming this is right and he does have full-blown AIDS, how long he has left... Considering the amount of money he has, he should be able to afford top-notch medical treatment...so I'm thinking he has a while left (see Johnson, Magic). Regardless though, it's a real sad thing to hear. Which means precisely dick if one is in denial, unfortunately. If he does indeed have full-blown AIDS (which may be doubtful, considering it's been three years since the alleged diagnosis) then he probably does not have much time left. Magic has been healthy because he never got full-blown AIDS. He probably could afford to get on the cutting-edge of suppressive therapies, and was probably experimented on with today's anti-retroviral HAART therapies. But once someone goes full-blown, that means it's now attacking the body, including and especially the nervous system. There is literally nothing one can do.

Herald Endorses Stadium Deal
Maybe this is an authentic change of heart. Maybe they saw the financing plan and finally got it through their thick skulls that creating jobs is a good thing for Miami.

She kept having sex with him even after the diagnosis. She's going for money, plain and simple. Still, one has to wonder about Robbie and, assuming this is right and he does have full-blown AIDS, how long he has left...

VOTE NOW!
Mr. Rabin, You, and all your cronies at the Miami Herald, are anti-Little Havana, anti-Jobs and anti-Miami. Posting a misleading poll a few days before the vote? All the information IS available to the constituents. The Miami Herald itself has published the full agreements on its website! If the Miami-Dade BCC votes NO on the stadium plans, then you might as well pack up and leave town, because Miami will be dead. No jobs. Decaying communities. Little Havana will become Nouveau Detroit. The Convention Center counter-proposal is the real pie-in-the-sky. Reality is that the convention business is saturated and beginning to decay. As a resident of Orlando, I can tell you that personally. Miami Ballpark may be a larger initial investment, but its return on investment will be guaranteed with a tenant that will run a minimum of 81 shows a year for the next 35 years. Also, you may have your chance to recoup some of the money when the stimulus bill passes. Something about ?shovel ready projects?, which this project definitely is. If the stadium passes, then you create hundreds of construction jobs immediately (not an exaggeration?they can begin in June), and sustain hundreds of service jobs for years to come. It also has the opportunity to be the catalyst for the resurrection that Little Havana has longed for. If it fails, then all the money spent by consumers on the Marlins flies to Tampa. And you can forget about a new MLS team. FC Barcelona and Marcelo Claure will see this as the most glaring example of the stereotype that Miami doesn?t support its sports teams, and say to Hell with you. Saying NO to Miami Ballpark will be a disaster to the city?and, Mr. Rabin, to your future as a journalist. It?ll be kind?ve hard to continue slandering sports when the Miami Herald is forced to shut down because people can?t afford to buy the dirt rag you work for.

Scolari fired -- not surprising, but I thought they might let him finish out the season. You got it wrong. It's supposed to be "sacked", not "fired". :mischief

Baseball at...
i have zero doubt whatsoever, that the marlins will be among the elite franchises in the game with the new stadium Either in South Florida or somewhere else Ironically, if the Herald has its way, that may be the case. The hypocrisy of publishing this fluff piece while trying to blow the team's brains out is breathtaking.

We must contact the Miami-Dade Commissioners
Am I getting this correctly? Like... would the Marlins then be forced to find a new home if Florida cant sustain them? Because I mean... lets just cut all of those jobs who work for the stadiums and FSN Florida. And give them to someone in San Antonio or something. Loria is staying in Miami, hopefully the team stays with him. H. Wayne Huizenga said before he sold the Dolphins that he wants the team out of Dolphin Stadium after 2010. Stephen Ross has only said that he would give them an extension year if a stadium deal is in place. So most likely, yes. If the stadium deal falls through, the Marlins are as good as gone. Hundreds of jobs will be lost.

Here's a plan - kidnap the family of whoever has the key vote and only release them if the stadium vote is approved. Hey, its worth a shot.... That's the quickest way to get a unanimous no.

the whole thing was publicity stunt...for this same reason, to get miami to build it for them. well, it sure worked didnt it? "if we dont get a stadium we will relocate". im glad it did. san antonio CANNOT afford 500 million for a stadium. have you ever been to san antonio??? i have. lol. cmon man. not even vegas could afford a new stadium with todays economy. the only reason why tax dollars are paying for it here is because of tourism. think san antonio has as much tourism as miami? or do you think the people of san anotonio will be cool with property taxes going towards a stadium??? lol...cmon. Actually, yes. They used a half-cent sales tax increase to build the Alamodome. It was finished in 1993. Its bonds were paid off by 1994. Unlike here in Florida, where we generally get f***ed around with tax and toll schemes (with few exceptions, such as Jax paying off its toll roads with a sales tax option, and Orange County's sales tax option to build schools), the people in San Antonio have a better history with that. If they are asked to pay a sales tax increase to pay for a new venue, they will jump at it.

Samson stated today in the VIP Season Ticket Holder press conference that this is the FINAL vote for the Stadium... If it fails the Marlins will see other options like relocation They deserve to if it fails. Couldnt agree more, if they vote fails I would leave in 2013... without any questions or answering to anyone Not even. They will be in the AlamoDome in 2011 awaiting a new stadium in San Antonio. san antonio already said they will not fund a stadium...and that was 3 years ago, just imagine today, in this economy. If that was the case, then why did they even bother going after the Marlins? Who were they expecting to build the stadium? Jeffrey Loria sure as f*** wasn't going to build it for them. All going to the BCC meeting, remember three words: shovel-ready project. This project will bring jobs to Miami. Thousands for the construction, right now. And hundreds in the long term for operation. That is worth any investment. (The "stimulus bill" mentions something about money for "shovel-ready projects". Perhaps someone could explain that a bit more?)

People are talking a lot about "shovel-ready projects". Public works projects that will create new jobs right now. They need to be made to understand that THIS is your shovel-ready project. This will create jobs right now. I weep for Miami if they don't pass this. It will be the coup de grace for a team that has tried to overcome so much.
