February 9, 200917 yr I just sent e-mails to all the county commissioners urging them to vote for the stadium on Friday. We need to continue to do this throughout the week so that they will get the message. Contact Your Commissioner > District 1 - Barbara J. Jordan > District 2 - Dorrin D. Rolle > District 3 - Audrey Edmonson > District 4 - Sally A. Heyman > District 5 - Bruno A. Barreiro > District 6 - Rebeca Sosa > District 7 - Carlos A. Gimenez > District 8 - Katy Sorenson > District 9 - Dennis C. Moss > District 10 - Senator Javier D. Souto > District 11 - Joe A. Martinez > District 12 - Jos? ?Pepe? Diaz > District 13 - Natacha Seijas Their e-mail addresses are for example, for Barbara Jordan District1@miamidade.gov and so on for each district. Suggestions of some points to make in the e-mails. 1. It is tourist tax money the county will use to finance the stadium, not actually taxpayer money. No money is coming from any residents' pocket. 2. This money, by law, can't be spent on anything other than stadiums, convention centers, or other venues that promote tourism. It cannot be used for teachers' salaries, firemen, policemen, education, libraries, parks, food stamps, homeless shelters etc. 3. There is competition with other cities for our major league team. San Antonio and Las Vegas are watching things closely. 4. Intangible reasons such as daily entertainment during the summer and specially, civic pride, that brings the community together, are important reason why the Marlins should stay. These can't be measured by dollar value. 5. It is true that the Marlins will benefit greatly economically by building the stadium. This is one of the main the reason it is needed. The team needs the additional revenue to field a competitive team year after year so that we are able to keep most of the star players when their salaries begin to take off. Government entice private businesses to stay in their area with tax breaks and other incentives. Helping out a private business for the public good is not a new concept. 6 Marlins contribution toward the stadium construction is above average as compared to the other 21 ballparks that have been built with private-public money partnership. 7. The county will own the stadium. 8. Construction will provide jobs for at least 3 years that are greatly needed at this time. 9. The stadium should invigorate surrounding area. 10. Marlins fans have waited long enough!
February 9, 200917 yr Thanks for posting the link to the poll, results looking good so far .Wonder if the commissioners will see it?
February 9, 200917 yr Thanks for posting the link to the poll, results looking good so far .Wonder if the commissioners will see it? Well Martinez is the only commissioner with the poll on his site. Perhaps he is undecided and wanted to see how the public feels. So far, so good. Let's keep it up. Send the link to everyone you know!

February 9, 200917 yr From Sarah Talalay blog "According to an announcement in Miami Today, a group called ?Coalition Against Marlins Bailout? has scheduled a protest at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, outside the county government center, 111 NW 1st St., Miami. And the Miami Herald writes opposition to the use of county hotel bed tax dollars to fund the ballpark has surfaced again from Miami Beach officials who want bed taxes used to upgrade the Miami Beach Convention Center."
February 9, 200917 yr I emailed a few of them, imploring them to please consider voting in favor of it!
February 10, 200917 yr Voted yes all over that poll and sent the link to a bunch of other people. I also emailed ALL of the commissioners.
February 10, 200917 yr i sent letters to all expect for seijas district13 has no email.................... could i get 2 the county office on the metro?
February 10, 200917 yr please dont kill professional baseball in miami...for the love of god...please represent the people and not some crappy convention center
February 10, 200917 yr http://cbs4.com/local/marlins.ballpark.miami.2.930915.html That certainly was not a fair and balanced pro's and con look at the stadium
February 10, 200917 yr Am I getting this correctly? Like... would the Marlins then be forced to find a new home if Florida cant sustain them? Because I mean... lets just cut all of those jobs who work for the stadiums and FSN Florida. And give them to someone in San Antonio or something. Loria is staying in Miami, hopefully the team stays with him.
February 10, 200917 yr Author Go to: Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners. On each commissioner's page click on "contact us" and all the info is there.

Stephen Ross has only said that he would give them an extension year if a stadium deal is in place. So most likely, yes. If the stadium deal falls through, the Marlins are as good as gone. Hundreds of jobs will be lost.
February 10, 200917 yr Forget about going to each individual commissioner's webpage. The stadium website has all of the commissioners listed with hot links to their email ... you just have to go to one page and click on each email. Simple enough. We really need to make some noise. And don't forget to show up on friday!!! Commissioner's email addresses are all here ... you just have to click each one.

February 10, 200917 yr I know this is crazy, but is there ANYWAY to get in touch with Obama and let him talk to the commissioners. He says everyday we need new jobs, well this would not only spur the local economy, but create thousands of jobs. Just an idea lol, reaching for the stars for any help!
February 10, 200917 yr when you contact these guys, definitely drill in the shovel ready aspect ..... not only will it create sustainable construction jobs over the next 2-3 years, it will filter into all supporting industries (suppliers, insurance, construction equipment mfg, etc) - then when complete it will provide additional income to our hard working public officers, along with additional income to hundreds of people in stadium support if planned right, it could even spawn development of the community and MLB is showing a committment with their youth academies, etc all star games, WBC events, mixed use promos - all can be done at the stadium and would help maintain miami as an event city
February 10, 200917 yr I've got news for everyone: I hear there were alot of protesters at the mayor's speech today and only one or two guys supporting the stadium out in the trenches. We need to have a much better showing Friday for that final push or we'll be crying in our Cheerios come saturday. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and there are too many undecided votes waiting to hear who shouts the loudest. Make signs, paint your faces, wear your Marlins gear. Whatever it takes. OK, maybe you don't need to paint your face but you get the point.
