  1. Update: He had pancreatic cancer. He was only diagnosed this past Sunday. Apparently it was so widespread when they found it that this was all the time he had.
  2. i wonder if this was why the player reps wanted him fired earlier this year...so sad... As suggested in the article, this was totally unexpected. So that's unlikely. They wanted him fired because he was viewed as too cozy with ownership.
  3. The big leagues in Europe are underway. The playoff race in MLS is heating up. And the Latin American leagues are in the middle of their Apertura leagues. Let's talk the beautiful game! :mischief Oh, and Man U drew their first game, against Newcastle.
  4. Y'know, if there was one thing that I didn't find entertaining, it was Tales of the Black Freighter. Any time the black kid started reading it, I dragged through it. It was boring to me. I'm reading it for a second time as we speak, and maybe this time I'll understand the metaphor relating to the actual plot of Watchmen a little more. I'll just say that it has plenty to do with the other major characters of the book. I found its connection to Dr. Manhattan's storyline quite clear. According to the analysis on the Wikipedia article, it has other connections. BTW: The "Under the Hood" articles are not part of the original story, so it's to be expected that they would not tie into the movie.
  5. Ironically, it is because of Russia that Poland has finally reached an agreement to host the missiles. The fact is that Vladimir Putin, a former KGB agent, wants a return to the "greatness" of the Soviet Union. The problem is, they don't have the satellite states of the Warsaw Pact. That is why they are so belligerent (sp?) toward the European former Soviet republics, especially Georgia, Ukraine and the Balkans; they no longer have that buffer between them and NATO. The only solid ally they have for that end is Iran. While they have some alliance with China, America is China's sugar daddy, and in the end they will not do anything that will jeopardize that relationship. And Venezuela is just a bag of hot air. But Putin knows that a conflict with America will only end tragically (read: nuclear holocaust). Although he and his puppet Medvedev are blustering, they will not act directly against America. The real problem is Iran, which is a true rogue element. With their recent orbital launch, and the unchecked growth of their nuclear ambitions, they will soon have nuclear missiles. And I don't think their leadership gives two s**ts about "mutual assured destruction". If they get nuclear weapons, they will try to nuke Israel and America. That is why the "missile shield" is necessary in Poland. An ABM launched from Poland can potentially get anything launched from Iran directly toward the United States. Israel is close enough that standard Patriots in Iraq or Israel can get anything aimed their way. The battery in Poland has no hope of completely neutralizing Russia's massive nuclear arsenal, so they should not feel threatened by it.
  6. Now if only they covered Admin Craig or David Vitter like this, neither would still be in the Senate... The DNC did that job, which is probably why the NE is going after Edwards so hard. :mischief
  7. The National Enquirer is not giving up on Rielle Hunter. That private plane flight was to St. Croix, to a resort owned by a buddy of Edwards. When their PI's found her, she was moved again to Santa Barbara. He is really intent on keeping her quiet.
  8. Why would you even bother posting this? There are AC vents in dolphin stadium for the people in the club level. Why dont you post an article how the people in the club level are still hot during 1pm games? Because NBC prides itself on being a "green" network. It's the hypocrisy behind the act, not the act itself. I get that, but they are in the TV business, a visual medium, and who wants to watch people sweating through their shirts while watching the news? It seems like a necessary use of energy to me given the industry. You beat me too it. They dont want their broadcasters to be sweating and have pit stains. Its really not the end of the world. So not having pit stains is more important than combatting global warming? :mischief
  9. Hang in there, Accord.
  10. Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Polk and Sumter schools are all closed Tuesday.
  11. What's stupid about all this is that their outfitter is a Chinese company. Doesn't matter. The Americans will kick their a**es regardless. :mischief
  12. August 16: Chad Johnson challenges Michael Phelps to a swimming race. August 17: Chad Johnson injures his shoulder. Coincidence? :shifty
  13. AP Poll Top 5: 1) Georgia 2) Ohio State 3) USC 4) Oklahoma 5) Florida It's official: The Ohio State University is The Most Overrated Football Program Of All Time. When they get put in the BCS Championship again and get blown out again, they should be kicked out of the Big Ten and out of BCS competition.
  14. It looks like it will start affecting Central Florida Tuesday night, and will be over us on Wednesday. I'm not sure about Tuesday, but at the current rate Wednesday will be sure to be closed.
  15. I'm guessing all that pollution is making the heat worse... You have it reversed, I'm afraid. Anyway, most of urban heat island problems can be attributed almost entirely to higher heat capacities of industrial materials and greater tendency to absorb more solar radiation since these materials have lower albedos than rural areas. It's not even that terrible. At the hottest, it's been in the upper 80s. Humid, yes, but not as bad as people have been claiming.
  16. Russia knows that if they bomb anybody, it's "On the Beach". Look it up. :mischief
  17. The problem is the FEC won't look into this because they don't have a quorum. They don't have a quorum because the Democrats in Congress won't review any of the FEC candidate nominations, not even the ones that are Democrats themselves. This is also why the allegations of election funds misuse against John McCain were never reviewed.
  18. :bases_empty Another lazy fly to Cody. 1 out.

  20. :bases_empty Well, he swung for one. 2 out.
