I know, but they were talking about it on Around the Horn...and no one had posted a topic about it yet. I totally agree with you by the way.

One of those things we all saw and was like wow so ridiculous and moved on, but yea I feel bad for them, because I am sure they didn't mean offense. Its one of those off the cuff things that are just really wrong.
August 16, 200817 yr Debated this to death already on basketball forums. The issue is in Spain thats not really an offensive gesture, and its not seen as such in most of Europe or China either. Its mostly in America (and England, the paper who shed light on this photo) where this is considered a big deal. The big issue here is that nobody in the photo shoot realized that this could possibly offend someone... just shows complete ignorance to Western culture. Not that we should have that much of a reason to be offended, since they didn't mean to do so, but still inexcusable for Spain's PR people not to catch this. Anyways they have already apologized if it did offend anyone, it hasn't offended the Chinese, it was an ad meant to only be shown in Spain anyways, and its a non-issue now except on internet message boards.
August 17, 200817 yr I think it is more offensive that they wear their first names on their jerseys. Ya... right lol?
August 18, 200817 yr wow is this a sign that they are on crack nope they already got caught for doping
August 18, 200817 yr Who cares? Spain sucks. And it seems they can wear whatever the hell they want on the back of their jerseys. I saw last names, first names, and last names with the first letter of the first name.
August 18, 200817 yr Author wow is this a sign that they are on crack nope they already got caught for doping Wrong sport buddy, a Spanish cyclist got caught for doping. :thumbup

I am Cuban I don't think this would've been seen as an offensive gesture where I come from. If the Spanish, nor rest of the Europeans and the Chinese people/govt consider it an offensive gesture, then what is the big deal?
August 18, 200817 yr What's stupid about all this is that their outfitter is a Chinese company. Doesn't matter. The Americans will kick their a**es regardless. :mischief
August 19, 200817 yr Thats crazy! My mom is from spain and im ashamed that they would do something like this. Even if they didnt mean to offend anyone, the act itself is still offensive. crazy!
