ok i guess im going completely off topic now but...the Rays are getting new unis? Maybe im in the minority but I love the ones they have now...or at least keep the green, I love that shade a green...darn You are, and so am I. At the very least, they are better than the originals. And they are also dropping "Devil" officially after 2007. They're just going to be the Tampa Bay Rays. The new Rays unis are either going to be red and white or have navy blue pinstripes. Red and white more likely. Tampa is Yankee town. St. Petersburg hates Tampa. Ergo, the Tampa Bay Red Sox. :thumbup

New OB Article
As I posted in another thread, I firmly believe that Loria is trying to field mediocre teams until he gets a new stadium. That's why he got rid of Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell before last year, and that's why he fired Joe Girardi after last year. Actually, we got rid of Beckett because we wanted to get compensation when his trade value was highest and before we lost him to free agency. There was no way he'd sign a long term deal with us. And, we got Hanley Ramirez out of that deal, so I'm not really complaining. As for Lowell, we did sign him to a long term contract. The problem was he suddenly became one of the worst hitters in baseball during the 2005 season. And, we attached him and his contract to the Beckett deal so we could rid ourselves of, what seemed at the time, a formerly good player who transformed into a really expensive bust. Girardi was fired because he couldn't get along with the owner or the front office. Not to mention, if firing the rookie manager is a main part of your plans for sabotage, you need to rework your plans. The manager isn't all that important. Lastly, where in Loria's plan to field a mediocre team would the signing of Carlos Delgado fit in? We weren't that bad in 2005. I'm sure for the right price Beckett would have re-upped. He did get a ring with us after all. Hanley Ramirez, as all minor-league prospects are, was a crap shoot. We got lucky that he turned into a Rookie of the Year and has become a potential future MVP. That goes doubly for Anibal Sanchez, who has had shoulder problems this year (big reason why we suck right now IMHO). As for Mike Lowell, it was just an unlucky offensive year. He actually got his first Gold Glove in 2005. His BA's in his two years in Boston are .284 and .311. And Girardi... no one expected the team in 2006 to get to 78-84. He got Manager of the Year for his effort. The fact that he and Loria didn't get along just didn't add up. And just where is Carlos Delgado now? Oh yeah! He was traded in the 2005 offseason too! Remember, the 2005 Fire Sale coincided with his open negotiations with San Antonio. He was using San Antonio, and the image that he couldn't make money in Dolphin Stadium (which does have some truth to it, no thanks to H. Wayne Huizenga), to blackmail Miami into building him a new park. The same way Chicago used St. Petersburg to get U.S. Cellular Field. (SF was a different story, and its falling through can also be blamed on H. Wayne Huizenga.) EDIT: I just thought of this. I should start calling Jeffrey Loria "Rachel Phelps". Because that's who he reminds me of.

Johan Santana so far, 17 Ks though 8, pitching 2 hitter
he'll get at least $200 million when he's a fa I dunno how likely it is that he will get a 10-year contract, but he should clear $20-25M easy.

I actually like the Hialeah site, too. It's right at I-75 and the HEFT pretty much. But there are advantages to the Orange Bowl. It already has stadium infrastructure, and Miami already owns the land. With those savings, and the money Miami pledged to UM to improve it if they stay, we could go ahead and build the retractable-roof facility. P.S.: How much you wanna bet that the moment the stadium is finalized, Jeffrey Loria starts acting like George Steinbrenner and releases the floodgates on his purse? May God hear you! As I posted in another thread, I firmly believe that Loria is trying to field mediocre teams until he gets a new stadium. Fredi is really NOT a good manager,or even close to it.
This is the key reason why I think Loria is blackmailing Miami for a new stadium. He doesn't want to see a good team in a bad stadium. That's why he railed against Girardi: for an excuse to fire him.

WSVN going HD!
Elita Loresca in HD! :o You'll see her in HD long before WSVN goes HD, she's leaving to KNBC in Los Angeles: http://www.exigi.com/fltv/2007/08/18/elita...the-west-coast/ *jumps off MacArthur Causeway* Might I propose the HOV flyovers on the Golden Glades? Faster demise splattering your brains on concrete, instead of suffering through inhaling sea water. :thumbup

Tommy John Surgery for Chris Ray
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! He was the chosen one! :banghead That's what happens when you lay all your hopes on just one person. You get burned. The Orioles are suffering from the Curse of the Cartoon Bird. They've sucked ever since they got rid of the Cartoon Bird hat. BEST. HAT. EVER!!!! They should bring him back, like the Jack In The Box "Jack's Back" commercials.

Laura Cover (a.k.a. Mrs. Aaron Boone)
She's hot, i'll make sure to tell him i've seen her naked the next time i see him. :thumbup I'm sure you will be neither the first nor the last to say that. And chances are he won't care. Because he's had sex with her. And you haven't. :lol

8/20/07 Giants @ Marlins - Operation Salvage Karma
Day baseball on a Monday. What an odd concept. I'll probably be silent during the 7th inning. That's around the time I'll be coming home from work. While I'm here, I'll tell you about a kind of mojo I tripped over when I was doing threads at Sons of Sam Horn: Chutney mojo. Someone once mentioned Chase Utley once in passing in a game thread. It reminded me of a joke flash cartoon I once saw with a catchy, repeating verse about chutney. So I posted these lyrics: This is a song, it's a song about Utley. Utley, Utley, Utley, Utley. I posted a link to the cartoon so people knew what I was talking about: http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/chutney I decided to keep it playing during an inning, and wouldn't you know it? The Red Sox went on a huge rally. People kept it going by posting pictures of bottles of mango chutney, like this: (This isn't the one I usually post. I'm at work, and they block SoSH for some reason, so I can't find the pic I usually use.) It's still a very good form of mojo to this day.

And here's my second, for more local flavour... Playboy Playmate Ms. October 1998, Laura Cover. Also known as the wife of Aaron Boone. Lucky son of a bitch. :shifty :thumbup

Ryane Barber
You won't find me posting much here, but I just wanted to bring a couple images to try to provoke some additional material. Here's one now: Ryane Barber. (Yes, the one on the left.) James Shields' fiancee. Apparently he couldn't wait to get a ring on her before nailing her. :shifty

Seeing Bonds in teal would be so.....strange. Can anyone do the photoshop of Bonds with a Marlins hat on a la the guys in some posters avatars? You think that's strange? Someone recently photoshopped Curt Schilling in a Rays uniform. Yeah, he simply re-colored a Red Sox uniform. But the Rays are getting new unis next year, who knows. But still...

8/20/07 Giants @ Marlins - Operation Salvage Karma
The burning question... can a rookie step in and lead the Marlins to glory? (Hey, if Anibal Sanchez can do it, why can't I?) On July 2, 2007, I stepped into the Sons of Sam Horn's Lurker Nation and began a game thread. It started a four-game winning streak. I've studied some historic game threads and recent ones, and I see the rules are the same. Essentially, you win, you come back. But with no "Lurker Nation" buffer, I'm essentially calling myself up to the big leagues here. This is a different environment, but similar in some respects. No Green Monster, though we do have a Teal Monster. Fenway has a 420-foot cranny in dead center. DS has a 434-foot cranny in left-center. No extremely deep right field corner. Just extremely deep EVERYWHERE!!! Instead of the Massachusetts Turnpike, we have Florida's Turnpike. No Charles River "Dirty Water". Just South Florida Water Management District Canal 9. Yes, this is a big stadium. This is the big time. And I'm ready. Sergio Mitre had some good days in May. I'm certain he can channel them again. Can't say the same for Russ Ortiz, though. Outside of Baroid, the Giants truly suck. It's time to give them a subtle reminder rude awakening. I can sense it. Something wonderful is ready to happen for the Fish. It's a shame only 5,000 people will see it, since school starts today. Now saddle up and get behind the good guys! We need to win. We can win! I want this team to get on a tear and steamroll through St. Louis this week. There's another stiff over there that needs a subtle reminder rude awakening. WIN!!! :gofisht

Rick VandenHurk chats it up with the little leaguers
for those that aren't watching the llws right now on espn2, the netherlands team is playing and just a few minutes ago, they showed the segment where vandenhurk was talking to the team in a short question and answer session to congratulate them for making it this far. the kids pestered them about barry bonds and stuff though, but he said he's a great hitter. Barry Bonds is bigger than Selig cares to admit.

HOW DARE YOU COME IN HERE YOU CAN'T EVEN RESPECT THE BIGGEST RIVALRY IN ALL OF PROFESSIONAL SPORTS (MARLINS AND RAYS) BY STAYING TRUE TO YOUR SIDE. YOU JUST TRY TO ACT ALL COOL LIKE "HEY GUYS, NO IM NOT TRYING TO TEAR THE SYSTEM DOWN FROM THE INSIDE". sh*t MAN. FLORIDA IS MARLINS COUNTRY. WHAT. WHAT. WHAT. Oh, give it a rest.

Just so everyone knows, attendance today was 15,351. :confused For comparison, the Rays had 22,328.

New OB Article
they could not designate YS as a landmark due to the renovation in 76 which robbed the stadium of anything that could be argued as a landmark, its not the original.... I have never been to the OB but from what I read and hear its not worth saving, either spend the money on something important like highways and mass transit or build the Fish their ballpark.... Miami does a pretty good job on the former. I say the latter.

Drew Carey injured doing Price is Right
So, are they doing a new set, or what? Also, you can't replace Bob f***ing Barker. This isn't Family Feud. Nope. Same set. Same announcer. Same games. I think there's rumors he's even using the retro stick microphone. And actually, Family Feud did good with its second host. I liked Ray Combs.

Tony Snow to Leave WH Before End of Bush Pres.
I could never see Tony Snow going to CNN or MSNBC because they are not as DC-friendly as FNC is. They also aren't channels filled with blatant propaganda. :thumbup :lol CNN is to liberalies what Fox News is to conservatives. Difference is, CNN projects the only viewpoint you see as "truth" and thus FNC is 'propaganda.' You haven't seen Joe Scarborough's whistleblowing of MSNBC, and how their newsroom booed Bush's entire 2003 State of the Union. And that was BEFORE Keith "Sieg Heil" Olbermann joined the team. Now THAT is over-liberal.

SI <3 Hanley
The Marlins have two young position studs on their team: Miguel Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez. Cabrera is an NL MVP candidate right now, and Hanley is showing that he can be as well. It's a shame that D-Train has regressed this year. :confused

Might as well say something
My name is Jeff. I'm 27, and live in Orlando. I run the computer network at a high school for a living, and just graduated from UCF with my Political Science degree. I've been following the Marlins since they got here. I mean, nice to finally have MLB in Florida and not just for spring training. I managed to make it down for a couple games in the 2003 Playoffs. Saw the Giants catcher get pwned at the plate both ways (2003 NLDS Game 4), and witnessed Josh Beckett turning into a man (2003 NLCS Game 5). Lately I've really been getting back into baseball. Nominally I am an active Rays fan, but you guys know how that goes. No real community in Rays "Nation". I discovered the Sons of Sam Horn a couple months ago, and have essentially fallen for this variety of community. But I'm tired of pretending to be a Red Sox fan. No hate for them, and it fits me being an ardent Yankee hater, but it's getting a bit old. I'm glad I've found something like it closer to home (namely, MB.com). I have experience in game threads already. In SoSH's "Lurker Nation", I've already got a four-game winning streak under my belt. I really want to be an active member, and get to rooting for a home team. Besides, we're not that far out, and you know what happens when the Marlins make the playoffs. PS: I already donated, since I kinda like the idea of this kind of community.

BK Kim cut by the D-Backs
He seemed to like it down here.. Well, duh. He liked the Marlins so much that he helped the team win. And I say get him back, too. He didn't do too bad in DS. I for one don't even understand why the D-Backs wanted him in the first place. Didn't he leave a bad enough taste in their mouth in 2001? They would have won in 5 in Yankee Stadium if not for him.

Johan Santana so far, 17 Ks though 8, pitching 2 hitter
That was totally rockin' by Santana. No walks, either. Retired 24 of 26 batters, 17 for K's. The funny thing I thought was that both his hits were to Sammy Sosa. Quite possibly, no Sammy, No-hitter. Sammy Sosa totally owns Johan Santana.
