August 17, 200718 yr MSNBC.com- AP: WASHINGTON - White House press secretary Tony Snow said Friday he'll leave sometime before the end of the Bush presidency because of financial pressures. He declined to say when he would depart, but that, "I'm going to stay as long as I can." The 52-year-old Snow, the father of three children, earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president but made considerably more as a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio. He was named press secretary on April 26, 2006. The White House has been shaken by the resignations of some of President Bush's closest aides. Political strategist Karl Rove announced Monday that he would leave at the end of the month. Longtime Bush adviser Dan Bartlett left earlier this year and Andrew Card left earlier as Bush's chief of staff. Bush's term ends on Jan. 20, 2009. "I will not be able to make it to the end of this administration, just financially," Snow said. "This job has been such a pleasant surprise in how much I like it. I love it." Snow has been undergoing chemotherapy after doctors discovered a recurrence of colon cancer in March. He said the last of eight scheduled chemotherapy treatments would be on Friday. On Monday he will have a CAT scan to evaluate his progress. Link Considering his health problems and the size of his family, this is the right decision for him.
August 17, 200718 yr I love how little discussion this thread has caused, lol... I guess the GOP is too busy mourning their party.
August 17, 200718 yr Who is going to be the first to wish him a spot in hell or cleaning out wounded soldier's bed pans?
August 17, 200718 yr Eating live babies is a requirement to be White House press secretary under Bush.
August 17, 200718 yr Over at Fox News he used to host a radio show, Fox News Sunday, and Weekend Live before he left to become White House Press Secretary. I think he has done a good job as Press Secretary, but his children come first. His battle with cancer is serious and I surely hope he makes it through.
August 17, 200718 yr Good luck to Tony Snow, I've always like this guy, before and after he was press secretary. I wish him all the best in his fight with cancer. Snow has been by far the most entertaining press secretary for Bush, and my favorite for sure, even though he decapicated my 8 week old puppy Fluffy and drank all his blood in front of me.

August 17, 200718 yr I don't mean to dumb down this conversation but as much as I like Tony Snow as a honest takes no crap kind of guy, I find it hard to believe a guy as smart as he is would enter this job not thinking a civil servants salary would not damage his current financial status. I think he's done a great job, and I love how he actually calls reporters bulls*** when it's utterered rather than giving it some daylight like Mcormick. However, he had to be using this for leverage for a future media career. I mean the man despite being very smart and well spoken was being used as a fill in guy on Fox News. He deserved better, so it seems to me he figured he'd build up some popularity and then go back to Fox. I have a feeling and I don't know how these contracts work(cape?) or what not but I would not doubt him getting the 10 spot on Fox News and having them push Greta back an hour. The guy's built up plenty of credibility with conservatives and independents during his run at the White House, as the only guy there with competence. Now,it seems he's going for the cash and good for him.
August 17, 200718 yr Hitting sacks full of puppies with a hammer. :lol :lol :lol :lol Sorry, but that cracked me up

FNC may offer him better hours, more time off, better salary, and a better healthcare plan....which the Feds cannot be flexible on. He wasn't fill-in on FNC. He worked 7 days a week at one point hosting his radio show, Weekend Live on Saturdays, and Fox News Sunday on the FOX affiliates. If FOX gets him back and puts him on during the week on FNC, I would expect it to be as the replacement to a retirement from Brit Hume. The only FNC rumor that has been loud is moving John Gibson to weekends in place of Geraldo Rivera who would move to weekdays to replace Gibson. Gibson has a radio show with Fox News Radio, so the move may work well for him. I could never see Tony Snow going to CNN or MSNBC because they are not as DC-friendly as FNC is.

I agree with everything you say(except I would think the cancer changed his financial outlook and status) and I'd add that I wish him and his family all the best in his cancer fight.

August 17, 200718 yr Author I could never see Tony Snow going to CNN or MSNBC because they are not as DC-friendly as FNC is. They also aren't channels filled with blatant propaganda. :thumbup

Difference is, CNN projects the only viewpoint you see as "truth" and thus FNC is 'propaganda.'

I can't count how many times I have seen clips from FOX where they 'mistakenly' switch a politician's political affiliation from R to D when they are in trouble. They tried to do it with Mark Foley, and then again with Senator Vitter.

I can still remember the CNN political team (Begala, Woodruff and the Rajun Cajun) almost committing mass suicide on the air when Bush was all but assured a second term.

I'm gonna jump in on this fray. CNN sucks. Thats the end of the story. Admin King is the only thing on there I can bear to watch anymore. The twisting of the facts on CNN is just as rampant as FOX News. Both stations have huge political agendas. To say one or the other is worse is asinine, both are projecting their views on the all too willing viewership. I'd much rather read several sides of the same story than listen to the dribble that is sh*t throwing that is the two stations....ok that may have been hyperbole about the sh*t throwing, but I'd still rather read the several sides of a story than have it forcefed like a spoonful of epicap. Why do we have meaningful discussions on here turn into "Who can throw more sh*t at a wall and hope it sticks" contests? Ok thats my rant on that status of this thread as for the original intent... Tony Snow is a cool guy in my book. I hope his fight with cancer progresses for the better. Always enjoyed listening to him when he spoke.

August 18, 200718 yr CNN sucks. Admin King is the only thing on there I can bear to watch anymore. :| anyway, I'm sure it's a salary issue, not a big deal regardless. Rove & these guys leaving early doesn't amount to much. It's not as if Bush was waiting until the last few months to push forward some huge agenda or something.
August 18, 200718 yr I know most of you didn't listen to his radio show, but Tony Snow basically took the job as a bet. He spent alot of time ranting how the White House fumbled the press and how David Gregory was a loose cannon. I'm guessing Tony won the bet........David Gregory hasn't been on the White House beat for what seems like ages.

You haven't seen Joe Scarborough's whistleblowing of MSNBC, and how their newsroom booed Bush's entire 2003 State of the Union. And that was BEFORE Keith "Sieg Heil" Olbermann joined the team. Now THAT is over-liberal.
August 20, 200718 yr Democrats say FNC is right-leaning Republicans say CNN is left-leaning And they both think their preferred news networks are 'fair and balanced.' Exhibit 42019332 of why this country is full of morons.
