  1. Conine has a YTD 1B fielding percentage of .991 (7 errors). He can flat out play the position. No, he will not make the spectacular DLee plays, but his offense more than makes up for lack of dazzle. Pull the trigger, Beinfest. ASAP
  2. I'd like to know which were baker's "discretionary selections". I think he may have gotten boxed in by the player-from-each team requirement. Let's hope Kevin Brown's abdomen stays a little tender and he elects to stay in LA over the break, opening the door for DTrain. Meanwhile, vote for Luis on-line (over and over).
  3. Gotta be Redman. 2 CG wins, piched last 2 innings Sunday while bleeding - my kinda player!
  4. This needs to be done. It makes so much sense. Leadership, money, and production. And the bonus is that DLee may flourish in the AL, which is off our radar screen. Do it, Beinfest. By July 20 (JC Bobblehead day) would be cool.
  5. Do the math - if the 32 posted are right, the fans will add one by on-line vote. That's 33. But the roster is limited to 32. QED.
  6. The above list is a hoax, and here's why. There are 32 names on it for AL & NL - BUT only 31 will be announced 2nite. The 32nd player will be selected by fan on-line vote. Yes, the list looks pretty reasonable, but we really won't know until the ESPN show 2nite.

Left hander Mike Squires played a little 3B and C for the Pirates (or CWS, I forget) in the early 80s.
  8. Correctamente, Mari!
  9. Thirty bones is a little much. Let's grow the crop before we harvest it.
  10. Still showcasing Redmond - he's part of the trade picture coming right up.
  11. It's pretty clear Mike B has been frozen out by Marlin management. He gets no inside scoop anymore (see Torborg firing). Beat writers have to walk a fine line between criticism and support, and Mike has clearly crossed it. He will not be the beat writer next year.
  12. early start so they can do fireworks after and get everybody home early enuf on a school nite.
  13. Dade is about to spend $100MM on football only OB. Strike one. Broward has no funding source. Strike two. Palma de Beecha money goes north in April. Strike three. Micosukees, anyone?

  15. Especially considering MDC is now considering ponying up >100,000,000 to update the Orange Bowl for "football only".
  16. To Marlins2003 - The state income tax is a Florida advantage - but not as big as you might think. The players have to pay tax based on the state they play the game in. Therefore, for road games in NY, Marlins players pay NY state income tax. Same for all other road games. The Marlins (under JHenry) used to have a FO person who helped the players sort out their paychecks by what state the money was "earned" in.
  17. I spoke to Beckett Sunday at the Dinner on the Diamond. He feels good and sez he will be back in about two weeks, meaning approx 6/15.
  18. I voted for DW. Got his autog Sunday after the game. When asked about his HR, he said he had batted very little in the minors. Innate ability takes over...........
  19. That's a pissa. Josh was one of the few QAM guys with a balanced approach to Marlins coverage. I wish him well.
  20. I'm sure the Marlins bought "insurance" on this. For example, they pay some company $500, and the company pays the $10,000 (if the event occurs). If no winner - the ins co keeps the 500. If winner - the ins co loses 9,500. Amost all big prizes work this way (hole-in-ones, fan kicks a FG, half court shots, etc...). Pricing is done by actuaries who know the odds..........
  21. Agree 100%. Castro is the future - should shop Redmond - somebody in the pennant race will need a quality backup C. But what will they be willing to give up? Number one needs (quality bullpen help / power off the bench) will be hard to get from a contender....... The last thing we need is another AA pitcher.........
  22. Hank Goldberg is pretty objective when he conducts an interview - he has skills in that area. The way he phrases or frames a question can allow the interviewee to respond in a way that reveals valuable information without being confrontational. Now, when the kleig light turn off and Hank's flying solo, it's a different story. He rants and raves and is generally very negative about the Marlins. I really think he wanted to be the PR director back in the early days, and when HWH didn't hire him, he determined that he would exact his revenge forever. He even took to calling them the "Florida Mullets" in the early years, just for fun. This all gets back to what I call the "Neil Rogers" syndrome; ie, if you can't say something negative, don't say anything at all. This is a cancerous attitude, and will never allow for steady growth, patience, and hope. Hank has embraced this attitude, as have the Big O and Jim Mandich. On the other side, I think you'll find at least a sembelence of balance from Joe Z, Eddie K, and Josh Friedman.
  23. Brad Arnsberg, obviously..............
  24. Notwithstanding the throwing error DLee just made - He has value. He is excellent defensively. He hits HRs. He hits for decent average. He is known around the league. He makes 5MM a year, and that money is better deployed right now for a pitcher. I say he worth a number 2/3 level starter, which is exactly what we need. His 5MM is easily re-budgeted between the pitcher + AdGon. Do it, Admin. Just do it. Do it now.
