  1. I think Hanley probably reached his peak in power last year, but he is going to be one of the BEST hitters in the NL for years to come. And I mean best...like Pujols-esqe. You think Hanley reached his power peak at 24 years old? Well if this new stance is permanent, then he's going to lose power, correct? He hit 33 home runs last year. I'm not saying that he could never hit more than 33 home runs in a season if he tried, but with this new stance it looks like he controls the bat very well and his average is going to be extremely high. If something in his batting stance changes down the road, then he probably will hit 33+ home runs, but he's not on pace to beat 33 with this stance in 09. Just my opinion. If he stays healthy, I honestly see him hitting up to 35 HR's this season. I maybe reaching a little bit, but I think it's feasible. If not for his slow may, he'd probably have 17-20 HR's at this point in the season. I also think he steals 30 bags. That is if he chooses to run.
  2. I noticed this during ST too. He also doesn't seem to hold his hands as high. I think he may have lost a little pop but he seems to have better bat control as he holds the bat slightly tighter. Do you think he'll hit 30 HR's this year with his current stance? I'm expecting big things from Hanley the second half of the season. I think he goes 30/30. Well I hope he does at least.
  3. Has anyone other than myself noticed how Hanley has changed his batting stance from 08 to 09? This year he no longer protrudes his left leg out. It's more aligned with the rest of his body. Not a big deal or anything, I was just wondering if anyone had noticed. Below is video proof. http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=2848009 http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5260727 I personally like the change. He's on pace for less HR's, but he's batting for a higher average.
  4. I may be wrong, but this seems like Hanley was being dramatic, again. He's running as good as ever. And maybe it's just me, but I don't smile 24/7 hugging teammates (in my case, just people) when I'm in pain. I'm not doubting he was injured, but I think there was some exaggeration, along the line. I honestly thought we were just giving him a rest and we used the injury as an excuse. BTW, how many games has Hanley missed this year? It has to be at least 10+.
  5. Albert is 10 times the defender that Hanley is too. Hanley will be considered and that's about it. uh... I'd like to see Albert field SS aswell as Hanley lol.... considering Hanley is an average defensive SS...and Pujols is a FIRST BASEMAN....lol...doesn't matter how good defensively pujols is, yes he is the best defensive 1b in the game, but compariing a first baseman to a SS.... Lol Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Howard are playing well at 1B. Miguel so much that someone mentioned him as a gold glove candidate.
  6. I seriously doubt Pujols is even human. He's not. You haven't seen the ESPN commercial?
  7. Yeah, unfortunately for Hanley he's competing with this mythical Pujols guy. Maybe if Albert gets traded or something.... (yeah)
  8. 'EVERYBODY PROFESSIONAL' GOES BY A FANTASY BASEBALL RATER THAT HAS JONATHAN BROXTON AS THE 12 MOST VALUABLE PLAYER IN BASEBALL????? OH MY GOD! He's 6-0, has 16 saves, 54 K's, a 1.85 era, and a 0.74 whip. Am I missing something here? If you think a reliever is the 12th most valuable player in baseball, yes you are. So are you implying that K-Rod wasn't one of the most valuable payers in baseball last year because he was a closer/reliever?
  10. 50th and 51st in what? Hanley's got an 80 point advantage on Jeter in OPS. Dumb. He's the best SS in baseball. Player rater... Not this season he isn't, he's behind two Tampa Bay SS and neck and neck with one from New York. A very old one in the decline of his career from New York actually. You're using a fantasy baseball stat that takes into account 5 stats to judge the entirety of a player's worth? You dumb. You are honestly the first person I've ever seen use that stat. It's a truly f***ing terrible stat. Honestly. It's so bad. Zobrist has played all of 53 Innings at SS. Bartlett has been better, but he's not going to hit .370 all year. Jeter isn't even close to Hanley right now. It'd be you're, not your. If you're going to insult someone's intelligence, I'd suggest you'd be grammatically correct in doing so. You must not watch ESPN ever. That's pretty much all they go by. It's what everyone goes by. Who cares if you think it's bad? It isn't going to keep anyone from using it. Which speaks even more for how well he's played. Batting .300, 15 HR, 8 SB, 40 R, and 42 RBI. Looks good to me. He still may end up batting .320 or somewhere around that number. It's likely that he'll bat very close to what Hanley ends the season batting. Their numbers are very close actually.
  11. 50th and 51st in what? Hanley's got an 80 point advantage on Jeter in OPS. Dumb. He's the best SS in baseball. Player rater... http://games.espn.go.com/flb/playerrater?&startIndex=0 And before you go on about how player rater doesn't matter, everybody professional or otherwise goes by this rating system. Everybody. Not this season he isn't, he's behind two Tampa Bay SS and neck and neck with one from New York. A very old one in the decline of his career from New York actually.
  12. If anyone actually believes Hanley wants to be here they're delusional. He wants to wake up and play for the Marlins about as bad as I wanna wake up go to work, or even worse, wake up in be a garbage man. B/c you've talked to him before, right? No, but he's talked to us, the media, an everyone else who has an internet connection and cares to pay attention to the truth. He began the season with trade demands, and has carried a bad attitude throughout the season. On top of that, his numbers have drastically dropped for reasons unknown to all but himself. He's acting and playing like a man who no longer wishes to be here. He's also stated many times that he wants to be here. Said it when the team was in Boston. Did you miss that, or do you only hear what you want to hear? As for his #'s, if you're going by that...then boy, I certainly hope he feels like playing soon! His "down" #'s have him as the best shortstop in baseball...I mean, only Jason Bartlett in his career year, by far, has been better. Not to mention he DID sign a contract here. Was not obligated to, either. But hey...you go on assuming. He says what he's supposed to say until he gets angry enough to say or act out how he feels. What has continually demanding to be traded ever gotten anybody? Nothing, look at Chad Johnson. Lol what I want to hear? I don't care where he's at or where he wants to be if he isn't helping us win ball games or doesn't want to be a Marlin. That may actually have some validity if SS were the only position in baseball. Unfortunately for Hanley, it isn't. BTW, you can add Ben Zobrist to the list of SS that are having better seasons than Hanley. On top of that, he's neck and neck with Derek Jeter. They're ranked 50th, and 51st respectively. BTW, It isn't much to be proclaimed the best SS in baseball when there aren't really any good SS in baseball. Yeah, because there's no such thing as having second thoughts. Most players that want to be traded originally signed a contract with the team they want to be traded from.

  15. I have a question. Are we winning with Hanley? You could make that argument to trade every player on the roster. And Hanley is certainly doing his part to help us win....hitting over .330, keeping the errors down. He can't play all nine positions and hit every place in the order as well. I can't really believe that YOU believe this line of thinking. Actually, no you couldn't, because barely anybody on this roster has any value. He is doing his part, which obviously isn't enough. This isn't the NBA. No one single player is capable of carrying his team. You're right, he can't, but he could be traded for a healthy stock of players that could help support the foundation of the team. It's crazy, I admit, but what else can we do? We aren't winning, and won't be winning any time in the near future unless we make some major changes.
  16. Die in a fire. Um... ok.
  17. I have a question. Are we winning with Hanley?
  18. We could probably get Jake Peavy and a bat or two from the Padres. We could probably get Carlos Zambrano, Kosuke Fukudome, and maybe(It's a stretch) Carlos Marmol from Chicago. I'll keep researching.
  19. Trade Hanley? Are u serious. . .what were you on when you wrote that? Trade Uggly and get a reliable SP for him! Nothing, why not trade him? It isn't as if we're winning with him. Uggla has less than average trade value. And to the poster above. I'm almost positive we could get Justin Upton and Felipe Lopez from Arizona.
  20. Someone said this in another thread... our offense has been bad since the middle of last season. Was it August where we just never got that clutch hit or scored many runs? We all know how good Ricky, JJ and Volstad were in the 2nd half of 2008, but the offense just wasn't there for us. It hasn't been there for us this season either. Granted, the starting pitching this season hasn't been what we, or anyone, expected, but the last week or so should give us hope. It should remind us that the starting pitching could be back to click into place again. JJ has been outstanding, Volstad has been very good and we know what Ricky and Miller are capable of. Can West or Sanchez be that decent No.5 starter? I really think so. You win championships with starting pitching and I honestly believe we have the framework in place. We don't need to trade Hanley to get anything here. Even Zack Greinke pitched 8 innings against the Angels, gave up 4 hits and 1 run.... he still lost because his team didn't score any runs. We need Hanley where he is, we need him to do everything he's capable of. If we can just get the people on base in front of him, he will drive them in and he can carry this club. His RBI total so far is disappointing because, as so oftenly discussed, Bonifacio has a terribad OBP and isn't getting the job done. Maybe with Coghlan now leading off, things can be sparked and change. I'm not denying that our offense really does need a boost, but I don't believe losing Hanley will do anything but make it a bigger problem. We could trade Hanley and get 3 solid bats better than everyone in our lineup with the exception of maybe Uggla and Cantu and possibly two better than them. We could trade Hanley for an actual foundation. No matter how good Hanley is, as we've seen, with just him in the lineup we aren't going anywhere.
  21. I would very surprised if Hanley gets traded but a JJ trade wouldn't surprise me because if he keeps pitching the way he has he'll get too expensive maybe not next year but his last arby year in '11 he could get $12 million or something like that and I don' think Loria would pay it. We can't trade JJ. Our pitching would really go to hell.
  22. Ok, don't kill me for this, actually think about it for a minute. If we ever want to dig ourselves out of the hole we are currently in, we're going to have to deal Hanley. We need a great many things, but we're desperately in need of some elite pitching. Unfortunately he's the only player on our roster that has great enough value to bring in some solid pitching. He alone could possibly give us an elite pitcher, a solid bat, and a few good prospects or even an elite one. Not only that, but as an unselfish fan I think it'd be better for his career. He may be the only superstar in the league that gets absolutely no credit, publicity, or attention. At the start of the season he was talked about a lot, but since that time he's been virtually non existent in the media. I wonder, will he make the All Star team? I'm not sure, but I am however sure that we are going to have to deal Hanley to get us over the hump. Some will say we can't deal him because he's our best player, but guess what? We aren't winning with him, and I think it's be better for him and us if we dealt him. Any thoughts?
  23. Do we even have a .300 hitter besides Hanley? No, but we aren't getting anyone productive on this team unless we deal Hanley. That's really our only option, he or JJ, and we really can't deal JJ.
  24. As an unselfish fan I'm all for trading Hanley especially if we can get some grade A pitching in return. Keeping him here is disastrous for his career. It's sad watching one of the best players in the majors get absolutely no recognition for his talent because his team is terrible. On top of that we have him batting 3rd in the lineup with no protection and even less RBI oppertunities. So trade him, allow him to flourish elsewhere, and get some top notch pitching in return. Everybody wins, even Hanley who I'm almost positive doesn't wish to be here He signed a long-term deal here, not to long ago. Which was more about the money and less about his desire, or lack there of to play in south florida this season. Also, I'm not sure if anyone on our current roster other than JJ and Hanley have good value.
