July 7, 200916 yr What are the marlins announcers saying about hanleys status for the rest of the series? I live on the west coast so i'm only able to listen to the giants announcers and they aren't giving details on his status for the rest of the series? I'm going to the next two games so i'm hoping to see him play. Thanks
July 8, 200916 yr Hanley took ground balls during BP today so that is good news at least. Although that is good news, the last I heard was that he hadn't taken BP since Saturday. I completely understand sitting him for those chilly night games. Even tho today is a day game, may as well keep him on the bench. If he is able to take some pain free BP today then maybe use him in a PH situation. If he gets on base, let ADA run for him. He's listed as possible, but I would rather err to the side of caution. A healthy Hanley is far more important than one more game in San Fran.
July 8, 200916 yr I'm hoping he plays the next two games as I have tickets for Thurs/Friday and will be stuck watching Sat/Sun from home
July 9, 200916 yr According to a Sun Sentinel article, Hanley said that he will play tomorrow if he feels "35 percent better." Haha, 35 Hanley? That's pretty funny coming from Hanley. He also said that if he doesn't play in Arizona then he won't play in St. Louis at the All-Star Game. From the article: "I don't worry much about the All-Star game,'' said Ramirez, 25, who also started in last year's midsummer classic. "It's an honor and a lot of fun but we're only two games out and I worry about my team and where we are now. I'm so glad that Hanley is dedicated to this team. The team is his #1 priority, not himself. It's great that we have a superstar that isn't like Soriano or Manny. LINK

July 9, 200916 yr If Hanley ends up not playing in the All-Star game it would not demonstrate his 'committment to the team'. Neither does his comment about putting the team first, necessarily. If he feels like blowing off the all-star game for whatever reason (including a concern about getting hurt or aggravating a previous condition), his best PR move is to make it about "thinking of his teammates". Thats pretty much always the right PR move (not saying Hanley is the savviest guy when it comes to the media by any means). But I wonder how sad he'll be if he 'doesn't get to play in the all star game'. Especially after the way the game impacted a certain teammate last season. That's not to say that he's capable of laying an All-Star Egg, Uggla-style. But believe me, for the players, the actual game is hardly the highlight of All-Star Weekend, and his flight is booked either way.
July 10, 200916 yr I may be wrong, but this seems like Hanley was being dramatic, again. He's running as good as ever. And maybe it's just me, but I don't smile 24/7 hugging teammates (in my case, just people) when I'm in pain. I'm not doubting he was injured, but I think there was some exaggeration, along the line.

I honestly thought we were just giving him a rest and we used the injury as an excuse. BTW, how many games has Hanley missed this year? It has to be at least 10+.
July 10, 200916 yr Apparently every injury must be some sort of ridiculous conspiracy. A recurring, although really stupid theme. He's back. Be happy. Retire the tin-foil hats.
July 10, 200916 yr Why would Hanley be exaggerating this injury? I would think that Hanley would want to be on the field and in the batter's box as much as possible. Also, I have absolutely no problem with him hugging BC last night and smiling, injured or not.
July 10, 200916 yr He's not necessarily in pain all the time. He could be sitting out because when he runs (meaning, when he fields or bats or runs) he feels the pain. I think if he'd be feeling pain constantly, he'd be examined and put on the DL because that's not the kind of stuff you recover from by just sitting out 4 games. I don't really know what to say about Hanley. When he took himself out of a game earlier in the season, I was convinced that he was being a diva. But I don't know, from all the shots they have of him training and talking to his teammates, he doesn't seem like a Manny Ramirez type - he seems more like a kid now

Manny just talks about himself and how he did. I really believe that Hanley is dedicated to this team. Sure he's had his moments, but baseball is a frustrating sport and can be a frustrating business. It happens.

The thing about the haircut, and about getting hit by a pitch. In the end, he does come around but that kind of stuff makes me wonder. As I said though, lately he seems to be enjoying himself and playing the game modestly (he's not acting like he's some type of a superstar; he's interacting in a positive manner with his teammates, etc.)

And I agree with you that he's been modest this year and about every time I see him in the dugout, he's usually got a smile on his face.

Here we go. Now we are trying to make Hanley out to be a Carlos Beltran kinda guy. I mean maybe Hanley's a little fresh sometimes but he is no drama queen. He doesn't exaggerate injuries and act like a premadonna in the way Beltran or some other players do. The pitch thing, to me, is understandable ESPECIALLY if you are extremely competitive. What that shows is that Hanley is a very competitive guy. All he needed to do to keep my mouth shut about him was sign an extension. Since he did that, I feel comfortable with Hanley. Can we at least all be patient for him to recover? He is the best player on our team and easily among the top players in the league. I think we should relax.

Considering the million other issues we have with this team, I believe we have bigger fish to fry (no pun intended) than worrying about Hanley being a 'drama queen.'
