  1. By the way, heck of a CWS game on ESPN right now. Into extras, UCLA and South Carolina tied at 1. And congrats to the U of South Carolina on an exciting walkoff championship winner.
  2. Especially so since Uggla or whoever is not expected to bring us the return a Cabrera was supposed to have given us. Are you really expecting to get anything significant back for Cantu or Ross? They are average starting players. If they can get back a good AA arm for them, that's pretty much a success. You can't expect to get Carlos Santana for these guys. But of course, you do call Ned Coletti first and see what insanity he is up too. Uggla though, won't get a Cabrera return, but he is easily worth "Maybin" or "Miller," i.e., another team's best prospect. If they do decide to move him, they pretty much need to get Friedrich if it's the Rockies. And I'd ask for Ryan Spilboroughs too. Their OF is Gonzalez, Hawpe, and Smith for the most part. And Dexter Fowler is obliterating AAA. Spilbourghs is signed cheap for 2011 and is due 6th year arbitration in 2012 so he's more than a whatever piece. You get a pitcher that slots into the rotation in 2 years, and you get your Super 4th OF to split with Maybin next year in CF if Maybin continues to struggle, or your lefty basher to relieve Morrison. That's what I would want from the Rockies. You guys miss the point. Who cares what Dan and Miguel are, its all about what we get back. If Beinfest misses on a trade, he needs to win the next one. And we all agree he missed BADLY on that one. This time, he cannot trade for potential, he needs to trade for the "right now", and that will be hard to do, hence the reason we didn't trade Uggla after last season or yet. I'm not sure if I agree we need MLB ready things. I'd say above A ball. Guys in A+, AA, and AAA would be fine if they are talented and could help next year. Trading Uggla this season means no more 2010, meaning we don't need right now. You get that right? Dude, I am already on board with this season being a washout. But I'm not sure the front office is just yet. And they of course are the ones making the trades, if there are any. And no I would never expect a King's ransom back for Uggla, but we do need to have Beinfest "outwork his contract" (an old favorite phrase of Admin's from 2003) and get us a steal this time around to make up for that goof. A, A+ AA or whatever level, it needs to be a home run instead of a ground out to the SS and and easy double play.
  3. Dominguez has been getting better and better, and he's posted a .764 .OPS in AA this year, as a 20 year old. He's currently having the best month of his year thus far, as well. Combine that with the fact that most scouts have already said his glove is big-league ready, and he certainly seems like the future 3B of the Marlins organization. Can you stop talking about the draft? It's really stupid. A complete crapshoot. The Marlins passed up on Heyward. So did 13 other teams in that year's draft. You're actually going to complain about the Marlins coming out of that draft with Dominguez & Stanton in the 1st 2 rounds? This team has much bigger problems than that year's draft, for crying out loud. Go look at what other teams got in the 1st 2 rounds that year, and I guarantee you we're among the top teams in terms of our draft picks that year, and how they've panned out, so far. Well lets hope he makes it then. I am just frustrated that is all. I see teams like Cincinnati getting a lot better in less time than us and it makes me jealous.
  4. It is very possible Heyward would have gone to college if we took him. Not very. For all of Loria's faults he has always made fair offers to his 1st round picks. I just don't see Heyward turning down the multi-millions we would have offered him. You do know Matt Dominguez is doing well, right? Like, he's arguably our best prospect doing well. Just admit you're Mungo, and I'll stop wasting my time. He is ? baseball-reference.com has him listed as a .227 hitter in AA over two seasons. Yeah that's some prospect there  Meanwhile the guy taken after him has just smacked his 11th homer of the season in MLB. Also if we take Heyward, and you say he goes to college, at least the Braves wouldn't have him right now. :cool And after college he would have been drafted wherever and if that wasn't the Braves you expect him then to not play ? Yeah, riiiiiiiiiight......:thumbup

I just don't see Heyward turning down the multi-millions we would have offered him. It's well known that he would only play for the Braves. If any other team picked him, he'd go to college instead. Until those multi-millions would have been shoved under his nose. Then I bet he says where my mitt & ball cap.
  6. Ok, MUNGO. Loria "pockets the money," how the hell is that Beinfest fault? Beinfest doesn't have many "resources." I'm sure if he had his choice, he'd have the money to go out and sign some relievers. I know you're Mungo because only Mungo would look back at every single draft to point out all of the mistakes of the crapshoot event. Hey, how about Josh Johnson in the 4th round? Horrible! Who is Mungo ? I post here and at ThePhins.com under this name, and have posted there for years. I was invited to another Marlins board "Black & Teal" by Mainge from the Dolphins board and then I heard of this one from there. I talk about Heyward because Beinfest said recently he didn't take Heyward because they knew they were gonna take Stanton in the 2nd (which is dumb because how do you know he would be there and then if you lose both of them you are in deep crappola). If Beinfest was one of the best, then why stick with the Marlins where you know you can't win ? I don't think Beinfest is as coveted by other teams as you might think.

  8. I know the Marlins won 2 of 3 against the Rays recently, but the Marlins will have a tough time facing Tampa this weekend considering they have the best record in baseball. If the Marlins somehow lose 2 of 3 (or more) to Baltimore, I think Fredi might lose his job. As bad as fredi is sometimes, there is nothing he can do with this bullpen and I would actually feel bad for the position beinfest and hill have put him in, but Bobby v would make me happy But I thought Beinfest was the bestest most greatestest GM ever ? :whistle Finally some on this board are seeing the light. Its the front office that needs clearing more than anything else. Jocketty is doing wonders in Cincinnati with about the same resources that Beinfest has had. Yet some here still think Beinfest is a god. Beinfest still is one of the best. He has made us contenders for years with no money, he just put togetherva bad bullpen this year Contenders ? When ? When we finished in 2nd, 3rd or 4th place in our division ? You don't play the game to be contenders. Ask Uggla if he is happy being a contender or does he want to be a winner ??? Like Herm Edwards said "you play to win the game". You don't play to be 2nd best. Bottom line is the ownership needs to be upfront & honest with the fans now since we are paying the bulk of the stadium costs. They owe it to us. Stop the crying poormouth and spend some money and make this team a winner. The cheap act from Loria is getting quite old. Either you have the money to run an MLB team or you don't. If you don't then get out and let someone with deep enough pockets do it.

Yet some here still think Beinfest is a god. Same resources? Really? Compare payrolls. If the Marlins spent their baseball welfare & national TV money on some players they could have the same payroll. But Loria just pockets it and expects to win. That doesn't happen easily unless you have a GM that can turn the trick. Beinfest is out of tricks....he has no Cabrera left to get some prospects back from. That means you got to spend some of that national TV money & revenue sharing for a change. The chances of a post-season bid are practically nil, and now should be the time you are looking for 2012 and the team you put together for the new stadium. Honestly do you see that happening right now ? I see a front office scrambling, rearranging players hoping one day one of them will explode. Anyone now think it was a great decision to pass on Heyward to take Dominguez and then Stanton ? Hmmmmm Heyward just hit # 11 tonight :whistle
  10. Bringing back Mike Lamb is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic !!! :banghead

  12. Cue price is right horns. http://www.failhorn.com/
  13. I know some of you will take this as "Anti-American" or whatever, but the national anthem should be done away with. Yes I do take it as anti-American, and am really insulted. Millions have fought and died so that song can be sung, and loudly. So soon after 9/11 people forget
  14. A bar I go to in Boston rings a bell and everyone stands up and takes off their hats while they play the national anthem on TV. I think pretty cool, other than the fact its the Sox on TV and not the Marlins. I have no idea where the whole taking off your hat thing came from. He thinks it's pretty ridiculous http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FKOVFyd3nc Its a sign of respect. You take your hat off if being introduced to someone, especially a lady..... You take your hat off when a funeral cortege passes by.... You take your hat off when the flag is presented (and that is when the national anthem is played). I can't believe people on here are defending the rudeness of what I have seen too. I have seen this happen this year a number of times and found it rude when watching Conine and Minervini/Forte/Allison host before the games. Its just another sign of the moral decay in our society and seems to be more prevelant in South Fla than other places where, shall we say, allegiance to the USA is not as heartfelt as say in St. Louis where its more "real" America.
  15. Anyone think that the organization might still replace Freddy if we are in last place around June 1st ?
  16. Man, i don't want to be "one of those guys", but it's really biting us in the ass that we weren't willing to give Arthur Rhodes that two year, $2 million per year deal he was looking for. I'll agree if Tank doesn't go back to his old self this season. That said, it was the right move. We're an organization that needs to be careful with how we deal our cash and he's 40 years old. It's also worth mentioning that we've been right in this situation more than we've been wrong. For every Arthur Rhodes there's a Doug Waechter, Joe Nelson, Nick Johnson, Brendan Donnelly, Kiko Calero, and Ross Gload. I'd say the return for Miguel Cabrera which has sucked is hurting this team a lot more than a LOOGY. A LOOGY can only cost a team so many games anyway. And I fully agree with what you said about Tankersley. He can be that guy; he's been that guy before. I agree that trade really hurt us. So we lost the 1st one tonight. Lets let JJ go out and beat Halladay tomorrow and we'll be right back in the thick of it. We can't give up yet.
