Posted May 28, 201014 yr past few weeks we look very bad not able to win series at home or road we heard owner say we will be postseason ok my question is do owner think now that we play like team 500 or below 500 what can owner do or benfest do team lineup ?i see bullpen having alot change that been issue hitting been seen few games and gone few games if you manger or benfest what will you do??
May 28, 201014 yr I know we haven't won any of the last 4 series but in reality it is just 2 (Braves and White Sox) as the 2 previous sets were just 2 games each. Minor slump of late but these things happen several times a year.
May 28, 201014 yr I think the real question is if by the time stanton comes up and the bullpen gets fixed up, which it will, will we have enough time to make our usual wild card run because lets all face facts, we are not winning the division.
May 28, 201014 yr Man, i don't want to be "one of those guys", but it's really biting us in the ass that we weren't willing to give Arthur Rhodes that two year, $2 million per year deal he was looking for.

That said, it was the right move. We're an organization that needs to be careful with how we deal our cash and he's 40 years old. It's also worth mentioning that we've been right in this situation more than we've been wrong. For every Arthur Rhodes there's a Doug Waechter, Joe Nelson, Nick Johnson, Brendan Donnelly, Kiko Calero, and Ross Gload.

A LOOGY can only cost a team so many games anyway. And I fully agree with what you said about Tankersley. He can be that guy; he's been that guy before.

Lets let JJ go out and beat Halladay tomorrow and we'll be right back in the thick of it. We can't give up yet.
May 29, 201014 yr A leadoff hitter. We just need a quaity #1 hitter.  This brings up a good question. When Stanton gets called up and they decide to make a smart move and call down Coghlan to AAA who will lead off now? Maybin has been better in the bottom of the lineup this season and I really don't want another guy who is up and down when it comes to getting on base in the leadoff spot. Maybe Gaby could lead off with his solid OBP but a thought I had was putting Cody Ross to leadoff. He's not the most patient hitter, but he does get on base .358 OBP, 3rd highest on the team and he has decent speed which enables him to be a solid run scorer (24 this season). If not then the other option in my mind is a tough move but could work out for the best which is putting Hanley Ramirez to leadoff. Highest OBP on the team, most runs scored and he has great speed. If you have Hanley leadoff you put Gaby batting 2nd followed by Cantu, Uggla, Cody, Stanton, Paulino, Maybin. If we continue struggling offensively we should give lineup changes a serious thought.

If we continue struggling offensively we should give lineup changes a serious thought.   There's is absolutely no chance Hanley leads off at any point in the near future. Hanley has spent the last few offseasons bulking up on pure muscle, he's established himself as a true #3 hitter who can hit for power and a guy who can knock other guys in. The approach this team is taking with Hanley and him being the future of the franchise, I can't really see them turning back to where they were with Hanley back in 06 and making him hit leadoff. He just doesn't have the speed nor base stealing ability that he had back then (as well as the shoulder injury). Cameron Maybin will in all likelihood be the leadoff hitter when Coghlan eventually gets sent down temporarily to make room for Stanton. This is how I see the lineup shaping up within the next 2 to 3 weeks, and it seems more inevitable than likely. Maybin Sanchez Ramirez Cantu Uggla Ross Stanton Paulino/Baker Pitcher Right now, our hitters aren't getting the extra base hits necessary to produce runs. I think right now it's just a matter of time until some of the guys who are struggling slugging wise will get their act together, but when June 5th-11th comes, and Stanton enters the lineup, I think him just being in the lineup will boost all the hitters on the teams production.  Another thing to hope for (although unlikely to happen). I really hope Stanton's strong work ethic (which he has been forever praised for) rubs off on guys like Hanley and others in the lineup. Stanton seems extremely mature for his age.
May 29, 201014 yr Volstad is so unlucky its unbelievable. Another quality start loss after an inherited run scores. 4 inherited runners this year so far and 3 scored. Pitiful run support again. The offense doesnt score late in the game again. Hanleys probably hitting under .200 when Volstad is on the mound. The weak opposing pitcher pitches lights out again no earned runs. This team is to inconsistant to contend. Sad when you pitch well and keep losing again and again. Robertson got screwed out of a win too. This team better turn it around fast.

Its not like he pitched bad or he deserved to get the loss, but I don't believe that wins and losses are entirely based on luck. If Volstad had been a little more efficient, then he would have been able to go longer in the game and wouldn't have another pitcher letting in an inherited run cost him. To reiterate, he didn't pitch poorly, but to get the win in some games it requires more.

He gave up 3 runs, it would have been irrelevant if the Marlins had gotten more than half of what a team gets on average.

Thats why hes 3-6 record. Could easily be 6-3 instead. Just cant even get a no-decision at all. Compared to the Marlins scoring an amazing 59 runs for Johnson in his 10 starts this year. Wins and losses are not entirely on luck I agree but mostly they are.
May 29, 201014 yr The Marlins offense has always been about the home run, and this year they are hitting less of them, it should be no surprise they are scoring less runs.
May 29, 201014 yr Author only thing i going say we need turn this round soon or we be too far deep to get back in nl east race

This year we're basically still on track for that HR total (we're on pace for 155) but we're not scoring as many runs.
May 29, 201014 yr only thing i going say we need turn this round soon or we be too far deep to get back in nl east race  Wildcard baby! I always expected the Phillies to take the East this year again and so our best chance has always been the WC.
June 6, 201014 yr Author other series we loss how many have lost after winning serirs start of season???
June 6, 201014 yr There's is absolutely no chance Hanley leads off at any point in the near future. Â Â I guess Freddi didn't get your memo
