  1. I agree, Latos is fat and out of shape. His fast ball is 91. In his Padres/Reds days he was in shape and 95+ all game. Not gonna last like he is now. Hamstring injury is from being out of shape imo also.
  2. Yea this Dee Gordan guy is pretty good. Anyone talking about his WAR or OBP? I know he ain't gonna hit .450 but his talent is obvious.
  3. Yes! Didn't think it would ever happen! Can't wait to go with my boy!
  4. Still not sure why some of you want to waste 20 mill per year on a 33 yr old. He is good, nothing special. Let's ride with what we have, and around all star break make a trade if need be. Trade what? We would have to trade someone on the team to acquire a starter before the deadline. We don't need someone special and amazing. We need someone like shields to hold the rotation down. You made my point. Shields is not amazing or special, why should he be paid like it? Let's see what the Padres pay first. If it's 20 mill per there're dumb..., every season there are at least 2-3 aces available via trade at deadline. If fish are in the mix, get one. We still have enough talent to trade in minors.

  6. They want him to get his 3,000th hit here so they might give him a 2-year deal. Problem is, he's 156 hits away from 3,000. Would he get enough playing time to get that over two years? He'll need at least 300 at bats per year. Reed Johnson got almost 200 last year. I'm sure they could find 50-75 more for Ichiro. But yea it's no slam dunk he would get to 3k in the next two years.
  7. Having a hitter at the top of the lineup who is more likely to avoid making outs is much more statistically desirable than having a guy who steals 60 SBs. The base stealing component is conventional wisdom, but really overstated. The general rule for sabermetric lineup optimization is to avoid as many outs as possible at the top of the lineup. But of course, if the OBP between two players is very similar, then you would default toward the guy with more SBs. Also, Ozuna, Saltalamacchia, and Morse are note exactly high OBP guys, so you are drastically overstating the impact that their presence on base will have on Gordon's "most useful part of the game" (SBs). All three are much more balanced toward power than on base ability. In fact, if you are really that worried about other guys being on base in front of Gordon, then you would just swap him with Hechavarria (hit Gordon 8th). Then you set him up better to be moved around by Yelich and Prado. So in other words, in my scenario, the only real measurable impact on reducing Gordon's opportunities to steal bases would be him getting less PAs over the course of the season, which should be the case anyway. Why do people try and reinvent the wheel? Conventional wisdom isn't necessarily a bad thing. Having Gordon lead off will impact more than the stats can provide, and that's why managers still put players like him at the top. They have more of a positive impact than OBP alone will suggest. Elaborate on why Gordon will 'impact more than the stats can provide.' Interested in hearing it. I can think of a couple. When he does get on, pitcher has to use slid step, that will impact are number 2 hitter for the better. Also lefty hitter will always have a bigger hole with first baseman always having to hold gordon. Just some things stats won't see by having a speedster leading off.
  8. Jones has a hot wife. Maybe Mike Hill can sell another team on that.
  9. Pirates President Frank Coonelly says that the Marlins don't expect to pay Morse a dime of that money Now that's funny!
  10. Maybe Loria has nudes? What a deal if true. Loria is love. Loria is life. Morse seems like the kind a guy that wouldn't care if someone had nude pictures of him. LOL
  11. You guys do get this was basically the dodgers buying prospects from us for $12.5m right? I think we also get an all star 2B that had 92 runs and over 60 SB. Not sure though.
  12. One more thing on Gordon. Wait till you meet/hear him. He is the kind of guy you would want your daughter to marry. A+ guy.
  13. But what about his WUBDHDWWBHJW?! 4 out of 10. Boo
  14. Do people realize Gordon was a .360 OBP in 6 minor league seasons. He will get better. Already an all star. Jesus the guys a stud people.
