Marlins trading already?
who cares about the Expos we the Marlins not Expos if they get rob to bad for them. You think they care if we get rob no, they will be happy remeber they are in the same division Basically, we are saying the Expos would not do it because they would get robbed. They are not THAT stupid. Just as I would hope the Marlins would never be stupid enough to go with the first trade you mentioned as a joke. There was no way anyone could look at that and not consider it a joke. later......

Torre Fired?!
I believe Torre is a very good manager. Yes, he has the resources surrounding him. But how many times have you seen teams go after several big stars, only to have their plan fall apart due to all the personality conflicts. I think it is much harder to keep multiple stars in line. Torre has been able to weather the storms, George, and meld all those conflicting egos into a cohesive unit. That takes a good manager. later.........

Pudge Removed from game?
No one has ever accused Torborg of being great with his substitutions or managing his roster. For whatever reason (to save him a bit, double switch, game out of reach, poor judgement, whatever) I-Rod took a seat. Forget about it! That was game 1, so now lets start concentrating on game 2. later....

Beckett: "That's not how I pitch"
A catcher and pitcher not having some sort of 'chemistry' is very bad. Oh so true! later....... p.s. what are you doing here Tex?

Beckett: "That's not how I pitch"
True. However, the more you have to shake off, the more out of sync you are with your catcher. I really think it is just a matter of all the pitchers and Pudge using a day off (what do you know...a day like today) and getting a better feel for what each likes. You would hope that would have been done during ST. Beckett did say he should have shaken him off more. Beckett did try to take a good portion of the blame. He indicated that even though he didn't like the selection, it was his fault for not disagreeing. There is always the thought that some pitchers and catchers simply do not work well together. Thats where the "personal catcher" thing comes from (see Carlton/McCarver, Maddux/anyone not named Lopez.) later......

Beckett: "That's not how I pitch"
And so it starts, the question about how he handles the staff. Does seem like a lot of breaking stuff, but maybe Pudge just assumed the guys would be agressive and looking for fastballs. Pudge is the only one that can truely answer that. Love the way he got on his new teammates for the errors though. later.........

Have you forgotten
True, I don't see the same amount of flags anymore.....especially on cars. In my neighborhood, several of us have flown flags everyday (before and after.) Even have a light on mine, so no need for it to ever be taken down (except for new ones of course.) PSA time. Always remember that a flag must be disposed of properly. Your local V.F.W. can do that for you (and I think the Scouts use to do it too.) later.......

Blonde Joke of the Day!
Wait, just one more blonde joke (for right now ) BLONDE DETECTIVES A policeman was interrogating 3 blondes who were training to become detectives. To test their skills in recognizing a suspect, he shows the first blonde a picture for 5 seconds and then hides it. "This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?" The first blonde answers, "That's easy, we'll catch him fast because he only has one eye!"The Policeman says, "Well...uh...that's because the picture shows his profile." Slightly flustered by this ridiculous response, he flashes the picture for 5 seconds at the second blonde and asks her, "This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?" The second blonde giggles, flips her hair and says,"Ha! He'd be too easy to catch because he only has one ear!" The policeman angrily responds, "What's the matter with you two?!? Of course only one eye and one ear are SHOWING because it's a picture of his profile!! Is that the best answer you can come up with? Extremely frustrated at this point, he shows the picture to the third blonde and in a very testy voice asks, "This is your suspect, how would you recognize him?" He quickly adds "...think hard before giving me a stupid answer." The blonde looks at the picture intently for a moment and says, "Hmmmm...the suspect wears contact lenses." The policeman is surprised and speechless because he really doesn't know himself if the suspect wears contacts or not. "Well, that's an interesting answer...wait here for a few minutes while I check his file and I'll get back to you on that." He leaves the room and goes to his office, checks the suspect's file in his computer, and comes back with a beaming smile on his face. "Wow! I can't believe it...it's TRUE! The suspect does in fact wear contact lenses. Good work! How were you able to make such an astute observation? "That's easy," the blonde replied. "He can't wear regular glasses because he only has one eye and one ear."

George the Mailman
It was George the mailman's last day on the job after 35 years of carrying the mail through all kinds of weather to the same neighborhood. When he arrived at the first house on his route, he was greeted by the whole family who roundly and soundly congratulated him and sent him on his way with a tidy gift envelope. At the second house, they presented him with a box of fine cigars. The folks at the third house handed him a selection of terrific fishing lures. At the fourth house he was met at the door by a strikingly beautiful blonde woman in a revealing negligee. She took him by the hand, gently led him through the door and up the stairs to the bedroom where she blew his mind with the most passionate love he had ever experienced! When he had enough, they went downstairs where she fixed him a giant breakfast: eggs, potatoes, ham, sausage, blueberry waffles, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. When he was truly satisfied she poured him a cup of steaming coffee. As she was pouring, he noticed a dollar bill sticking out from under the cup's bottom edge. "All of this was just too wonderful for words." He said, "But what's the dollar for"? "Well," she said, "last night, I told my husband that today would be your last day, and that we should do something special for you. I asked him what to give you, and he said, "Screw him. Give him a dollar." "The breakfast was my idea!!"

Miami sending presents to Das Texan
link Posted on Sat, Mar. 29, 2003 Airport gives rabbit defenders last chance Officials will hear trapping, airlift plan BY CHARLES RABIN crabin@herald.com Miami International Airport officials have a contract to kill off 500 jackrabbits that have overrun airport grounds, but the officials are giving a group of animal lovers one last shot to save them. The airport is signing up the U.S. Department of Agriculture to eliminate the black-tailed jackrabbits within a year. The USDA's Wildlife Service will have permission to use shotguns and pellet rifles. But a Plantation man who runs an animal-trapping service has offered to save the rabbits and fly them to Texas at his expense to live in peace at a ranch run by an animal-rights group. Jackrabbit sympathizers howled after word got out last month that the airport might kill off the hares. Airport officials have now agreed to meet with Critter Control's Steven Rosen and hear his animal-airlift plan. ''We're stopping those e-mails now because they have agreed to meet on Thursday,'' said Rosen, who is working with New York City's Fund for Animals to save the rabbits. The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered MIA to dispatch the jackrabbits one way or another because they are a hazard to airplanes. It's not the hares themselves that endanger flights, but the turkey vultures that eat jackrabbits that die on airport grounds. Between 1990 and 2001, according to the FAA, 101 people were injured in the United States and six killed when birds smashed into windshields or got sucked into engines on landing or takeoff. Since 1998 birds have hit five moving planes at MIA and 20 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. No one was hurt in those bird strikes. How the jackrabbits got here is folklore. Some say they escaped after being used at dog tracks. Others believe a box load on its way to a southwestern state -- the jackrabbits' natural habitat -- broke open at MIA and led to the hare explosion. YEAR FOR REMOVAL The USDA's plan, which is to cost the airport no more than $19,549, gives the agency a year to remove the jackrabbit population and allows ``. . . shooting [the rabbits]using shotguns and pellet rifles.'' After the initial kill, the USDA will be given six months to monitor to make sure the population does not return. Airport director Angela Gittens has signed the USDA's proposal. But before she sends it back, airport officials will meet with Rosen on Thursday, said airport spokesman Marc Henderson. Rosen's plan: Trap the rabbits and stick them on a Delta Airlines flight to Texas, where they can roam freely at the Fund for Animals' Black Beauty Ranch, a 1,200-acre sanctuary 90 miles southeast of Dallas. $7,500 COST ''It's gorgeous,'' said Laura Simon, urban wildlife director of Fund for Animals. ``It's unlike any place you've ever been. There are all different species comingling and roaming freely.'' The cost to Rosen: more than $7,500 to trap the rabbits and fly them. ''I'm one of those animal rights people. What can I tell you,'' he said. How will he trap them? ''I'm not sure yet,'' he said. Fighting the jackrabbit problem at MIA has been particularly difficult because of its geography. Major roadways ring the airport, leaving the rabbits no haven. Propane cannons have been used to try and scare the birds away -- but they've become used to them, and soon return. We pride ourselves on being unique later.........

Sending Porn to the troops?
link A war of words over sending pornography to troops Terry Mattingly, Scripps Howard News Service Published March 31, 2003 PORVAR Attention, all families and friends preparing to send "care packages" to U.S. soldiers: Not all gifts are created equal on the Arabian Peninsula. Powered-drink mixes, beef jerky, pretzels and chewing gum are fine, say the veterans at http://www.West-Point.org.Chocolate will melt. Flyswatters, footballs, lip balm, sunblock lotion, foot powder and other logical items will be appreciated. Do not send pork or tobacco. Do not send religious materials. And do not send pornography. In other words, send nothing that will bring grief -- or danger -- to soldiers in the lands surrounding Mecca. Thus, scores of religious leaders got upset when they heard about a DirectLink Media Group offer to send pornographic videotapes and DVDs to U.S. soldiers and veterans anywhere, with the soldiers paying shipping and handling charges. The pornographer's news release was blunt. The company merely wants to help defend democracy, free speech and the American way. Cultural conservatives were outraged. A Focus on the Family report, for example, noted that a wave of free pornography would be especially demeaning to women who serve alongside men in today's armed services. "This is an abominable marketing trick by pornographers who care nothing about our troops," added Jan LaRue of Concerned Women of America. Plus, these "Muslim countries generally don't allow anything like this." On one level, this is merely another firefight in the culture wars that have followed the sexual revolution. It's a familiar story. Someone on the cultural left does something outrageous. The usual suspects on the cultural right respond with sermons. A late-night comic or two turns this into punch lines. Journalists yawn. But this time, at least one pastor did something unusual. The Rev. Martin Drummond of Miami Shores (Fla.) Christian Church took the time to write the pornographer a sincere, low-key appeal to stop his marketing blitz. There was more to this issue than another moralistic minister pitching a fit, he said. After all, Osama bin Laden and his disciples have issued stacks of fatwas blaming the United States for spreading filth and immorality worldwide. This could be a matter of life and death for troops near the Persian Gulf. "Do you realize," wrote Drummond, "that one of the reasons the radical Islamic movement so dislikes America is because of its tolerance of pornography? What kind of support will our troops find in Middle Eastern countries if the soldiers are seen as porn-starved trigger jockeys? Your effort will give new life to the allegation that we are not a nation of character, but instead of carnal compromise." Aaron Gordon has not responded to interview requests about his campaign. But he did reply to Drummond's e-mail. "With all due respect," he said, "if I were to change anything I did because the 'radical Islamic movement' does not approve of it, then I would have to forgo most of my beliefs in a free society, my way of life in a free society, and together, we would be forgoing the freedom of people who live in this society." This argument does carry some weight with Drummond, who is both a pastor and a working journalist with two decades of experience reporting for secular newspapers. Anyone who has taken a class in media law and ethics knows that -- here in the safety of America -- Gordon has a right to outrage the faithful to his heart's content. "But this has to be a classic case of someone crying 'Fire!' in a crowded theater," said Drummond. "Sometimes, enough is enough. This kind of stunt is not going to help our troops. This is just going to pour gasoline on the flames of hatred that they already face over there. . . . Sure, we have freedom of speech. But sometimes we have to restrain ourselves, if, by exercising our freedoms, we can get other people hurt." Something that never really crossed my mind (empty as it is.) later.........

BREATHALYZER
A highway patrolman waited outside a popular bar, hoping for a bust. At closing time everyone come out and he spotted his potential quarry. The man was so obviously inebriated that he could barely walk. He stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, looking for his car. After trying his keys on five other cars, he finally found his own vehicle. He sat in the car a good ten minutes, as the other patrons left. He turned his lights on, then off, wipers on, then off. He started to pull forward into the grass, then stopped. Finally, when he was the last car, he pulled out onto the road and started to drive away. The patrolman, waiting for this, turned on his lights and pulled the man over. He administered the breathalyzer test, and to his great surprise, the man blew a 0.00. The patrolman was dumbfounded. "This equipment must be broken!" he exclaimed. "I doubt it," said the man, "Tonight I am the designated decoy!"

Padres demote Brady Anderson
Link Padres demote Brady Anderson to Triple-A San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - The San Diego Padres assigned veteran outfielder Brady Anderson to Triple-A Portland and granted outfielder Roberto Kelly his unconditional release on Thursday. Both players came to the Padres' major league camp with minor league contracts and an opportunity to win spots on the team's major league roster. Anderson, however, accepted the Triple-A assignment, while Kelly asked for and was granted his release rather than return back to the minor leagues. Anderson has not played in the majors since being released by Cleveland on May 21 of last season. He was hitting just .163 with one home run and five RBI in 34 games in 2002. The 38-year-old Anderson was raised in the San Diego area. A .256 career hitter, Anderson also has 210 homers and 761 RBI in 1,834 games with Boston, Baltimore and Cleveland. He spent the majority of his career with the Orioles and in 1996 he belted 50 homers with 110 runs batted in. Kelly has not played in a major league game since the 2000 season when he was with the New York Yankees. The 38-year-old Kelly played in only 10 games with the Yankees that season. Over his 14-year major league career, Kelly has a career .290 average with 124 home runs and 585 RBI. Kelly has played with the Yankees, Reds, Braves, Expos, Dodgers, Twins, Mariners and Rangers. The Padres kept only five outfielders on the roster, including Shane Victorino, who must remain on the big league roster for the entire season or be offered back to the Dodgers, his former team. 03/27 17:01:27 ET
