"Bandwagoners"

Featured Replies

We need many people going to a few games here and there. Not a select few going to 40.

I would if I lived maybe like 10 states closer to Florida...I live in San Francisco, but it's really a pity I can't support them by going to games very much... I feel your pain, I used to goto about 40 games a year up until this year I had to move to Minnesota. =( I really miss it, but I paid for MLB extra innings and I watch all the games on TV! :D

Great post, Fish Fillet!? It's good to stay positive, but if you feel the need to name call, just hush up.? :lol ??

But you don't understand? That's what happens here! I was called a racist the other day! Because all three neighborhoods that my parents and I grew up in Dade County, turned to crap. We were forced to move out of all of them. Is it our fault that they turned to crap? Nope! We didn't want to move! But now I'm a racist?!

Is Mike Lowell a racist because he doesn't live by Winwood park? Is Juan Pierre a racist because he doesn't live on 6th Ave. (Where my grandmother used to live, in North Miami, But Had TO MOVE)

That is simply ignorance! And utter NAME-CALLING!

There is not a lot of respect for different opinions here? You must be positive and agree....if you want to be in the club! Anything else, be ready to be blasted!

I mean how hard is it just to ignore someone? This is a public forum people are going to say whatever they want. I have learned that the hardway, there are always going to be people that DO NOT agree with me, we all have opinions.

I don't really care about bandwagoners because every damn team has them. The only thing that annoys me is when people start talking crap about the team and says s*** like "They suck" and "They can't do s*** right." Those people jump off the bandwagon and are right back on when the Fish do good. And some bandwagoners don't even TRY to know s*** about the game. I could imagine most don't know the rules or any players on any other team except the Yankees. And then they say every other team sucks without knowing anything.

But they keep the game alive. For every team. Unfortunately, we have some of the worst bandwagoners.

Hey everyone... I have been frequently viewing this message board to try to keep up with the latest Marlins news, but I do have to admit that I am what you would call a "bandwagoner". I have been a die hard white sox fan for my entire life, and yes I could ramble off facts and statistics to anyone concerning Magglio, Frank, or anyone else on the team. However, I can not do the same for your Marlins team.

I have just begun following the Marlins only since last years playoffs, and have tickets to a game at Pro Player in late June for my first Marlins game. The

Marlins have become a second team for me, and if I lived closer, I would go to more games, but since I am in Chicago I spent my money on my first team, the White Sox.

sorry... i submitted too soon... i just wanted to say that I do not know everything about your team, but enjoy watching them and am excited to go to my first game. SO yes, i am a bandwagoner, bu do not see anything wrong with that, since i do not pretend to be an expert on the team.

No problem. Welcome welcome to the site and the team!

Just to let you know, there's an edit option.

Go Fish!

Thanks! And just to let you all know, there are plenty of people in Chicago (the real fans of course), who are rooting the Marlins on and will not give up on them anytime soon!

In the last couple of weeks as the Fish performed poorly I've noticed that almost every thread that contains the whole negative -v- positive arguement eventually devolves into assertions that someone is a "Bandwagoner" for criticizing some aspect of the Marlins' performance.

This has really turned into a pet peeve of mine. For all of you who throw this term out as a deragatory accusation, please tell me what a "Bandwagoner" is exactly?

Am I a bandwagon fan b/c I only attend 10 games a year, while you attend 30?

Are you a bandwagon fan b/c you've only got the mini-pack of season tickets, while some other guy has the whole 81 game package?

And although it seems like I may be the only one with the following opinion, I'll let it fly...

The very people you negatively call bandwagon fans are the very lifeblood of professional sports in general, and of your Florida Marlins in particular. You think you'd be talking about a new stadium, or signing free agents, or anything else if it weren't for the casual fan who now goes to a couple games b/c the team is competitive, or who buys a jersey b/c it's cool now?

If it weren't for this plague of bandwagon fans you'd soon be sitting around debating whether or not the Dolphins are going to make changes to their 2nd string punt-return unit or watching the Braves on TBS and wondering "what if?"

If you disagree with an opinion posted then respond and refute with statisitcal evidence and/or informed opinion, not weak, 4th grade name-calling.

It's time to start seeing the forest for the trees, so to speak.

And the next time you, as the "die-hard", "true" fan goes to the Pro and sits your carcass in a seat to watch a game, instead of bemoaning the fact that someone is a bandwagoner because they can't regurgitate Charlie Hough's 1993 WHIP number from memory, or because they don't always blindy follow the Marlins, maybe you should thank him/her for being a casual bandwagoner who is helping to create the public sentiment/attendance revenue that allows you to be able to watch a game in person without driving to Tampa.

Fish Fillet, I agree with you. Your negativity is useful, although not always appreciated.

I think bandwagoners are the ones, who's kids will become the diehard Marlins fans of the future.

I takes time to build a fan base. If you expect it to happen overnight, go be a Cubs fan.

Took the Yankees 25 years to draw 2 million fans again after those terrible years.

First off, you were as guilty of name-calling as other people were in that thread, you may have done it "indirectly" but you did it. Secondly, you said that the neighborhood in Hialeah turned to crap because everyone spoke Spanish, sounds to me like that's not a good reason for turning to crap. I agree with whoever it was that said that your post sounded racist because it did.

Oh no, people like you aren't bandwagon in my definition of the word. Bandwagon fans are those that get on the tails for a nice ride when the team is doing well, and when they aren't they ask when Dolphins' season starts. I have no problem with people who start liking the team when they are winning, as long as they stay true. Honestly, everyone has to start somewhere, and not all of us were privaledged enough to know what baseball was when Opening Day 1993 rolled around. That's just the way it is.

P.S. Go Sox (when you don't play the Fish) :hat

I really don't care either way. I know I'm a fan no matter what, so why should I care about other people?

ding ding...exactly

i root for the team, not the fans

Yea but when your the defending world champs and you got 12000 fans showing up for games against a very good team in the Astros you know you got problems. It's hard to ignore the "Fans" in that case...or I guess easy to ignore since they are non-existant. My guess is they are telling themselves "they're playing s***ty right now I don't want to go see them loose so I will stay home and tell other people how much the Marlins suck right now, until they win again then I can tell people how much I have love them". When things are going well everyone is a fan, when things are not going well.....

Yesterday was WED...the Defending Champs got OUT-DRAWN by...

Tampa @ HOME

Pitt. @ HOME

Cle. @ HOME

Col. @ HOME

...

Hey on the brightside.... We out-drew the Expos yesterday they only had 8157 people...

I don't have problems with 12k showin up. I have problems with the team losing. I root for the Marlins...I like to see them win. I'd rather see them win with 12k than lose with 30k.

I'd rather see them win with 12k than lose with 30k.

definitely agreed

like Cape said "It takes years to build a solid fan base", which is so true, and it's especially gonna be hard in South Florida but I think that as long as we add on a good number of dedicated fans every year, we'll be in good shape. Plus, we have a new stadium ahead which will definitely definitely help.

then theres the fools we have been having on the boards lately which when something goes wrong just say the seasons over and we should get ready for next year and this team sucks and all that BS. Those are the true bandwagoners who give up on the team so easy cause they really dont know much about baseball and are the true bandwagoners.

those are just pessimistic fans. See: Boston fans :D

i'm 3-1 this year going to marlins games. if we end up going to 15 games this year i'm going to ask my mom to buy a ticket pack for this year. speaking of wanna be know it all fans, today i went to the game and some idiot said there are only 20 teams in baseball and that tampa bay is not a major league team. someone also stated that the marlins are in firts place ahead of the yankees. LOL

I'll give you the address, and the pictures of what the neighborhood USED to look like MANY years ago...no problem.

My grandparents all the people that they knew that lived there all left! That is a fact Max! To not accept that FACT is to be in DENIAL!

If you want to be dillusional than that is your right, I guess. Does the fact that everyone speaks Spanish there, contribute to the fact that the neighborhood went down? I don't know? All I'm concerned with is the FACT that these neighborhoods went down!

You just don't want to admit that these neighborhoods went down? For some reason?

SECONDLY, I wouldn't care if everyone could call each other names here? Be fine with me! But in the past, some of my post were mysteriously missing? And I was told NOT to DO that! RIGHT Admin...

So! in other words! If I can't do it....

Yep! that's right! What's FAIR is FAIR!

Max! Buddy! :) The Spin Stops Here!!

ALSO!!! Max, when you were upset with me...did you just IGNORE it?? :lol

We always supported them, we always rooted for them, we treated them like big leaguers, but realized they still had to develop.

Nope, the neighborhood did go down, where my grandparents lived. I'll give you the address, and the pictures of what the neighborhood USED to look like MANY years ago...no problem.

I'm not questioning the neighborhoods going down hill, but in that other thread you mentioned that the neighborhood went downhill BECAUSE it became a predominantly Spanish speaking neighborhood. That is what I find messed up. I don't know the condition of the neighborhood, but if your idea of going downhill is because it became predominantly Spanish then your remarks are just wrong.

SECONDLY, I wouldn't care if everyone could call each other names here? Be fine with me! But in the past, some of my post were mysteriously missing? And I was told NOT to DO? that! RIGHT Admin...

You can't complain about being called names when you are guilty of the same thing. If you do it expect it to be done to you as well.

ALSO!!! Max, when you were upset with me...did you just? IGNORE it?? :lol

WTF are you talking about?

SoFla has gone downhill because of all the different types of people moving in, having different lifestyles, clashing, getting mad, and the lack of courtesy. Any big city has this, but Miami is nowhere as bad as some cities (ie New York, LA)

Miami will sort itself soon as it finds it peace.
