Borland to be new setup man?

Recommended Posts

from the Palm Beach Post...

When Burnett returns, the Marlins will either use 12 pitchers instead of their current 11 or send a pitcher to the minors. Right-hander Toby Borland's job appears to be safe.

McKeon has been so impressed with Borland that he said he could replace the injured Chad Fox as Florida's eighth-inning setup man.

Borland had allowed one hit and two walks in his first six outings in 5 1/3 innings since being called up from Albuquerque. On Monday, he gave up four hits and a two-run home run to Arizona Danny Bautista in the ninth inning of the Marlins' 13-5 win.

Left-hander Matt Perisho pitched the seventh inning Monday, a role he could assume regularly with Borland in the eighth and Armando Benitez in the ninth.

(due to Cordero's injury...)? That means left fielder Jeff Conine will share playing time at first base with Hee Seop Choi. Abraham Nunez likely will get more starts in left field.

I like that...let's see what Abe is made of! what about lenny?

^^^ - Duh.

I don't like this move. He's been a solid addition to the 'pen but this just shows how little McKeon trusts Justin Wayne who has pitched quite well. Yeah, he's had some recent struggles such as:

- not getting that 3rd out in the 9th two weeks ago in the first time all year he's had to pitch without a day's rest

- getting only one of Biggio-Everett-Bagwell-Kent out and having Gracesqui and Bump allow the other three to score.

- lacking control after 7 and 5-day breaks off.

Yeah, some real struggles.
