Basically give Tampa the keys to your farm system, throw in Castro and lets make a deal. I know I'm dreaming to think Tampa is going to give up Huff(you never know), but Hall is attainable for the right price...Carter is in Lou's doghouse and will be moved. Sorry ramp...but I think Willingham would have to be part of the deal. I think he's a perfect DH. Plus he'd see the ML alot faster in Tampa then here.

May 31, 200422 yr Uh, no. I dont see this happening. Huff would be the key to that deal, being a former Cane would fit in nicely in S. Fl. But he is too important for the D Rays to give up. Hall would be nice, but not at the price of ANY of our top prospects on the farm. I am sorry, but I think you stand pat here and fill from within. Our farm is depleted enough at the upper level and trying to panic and fill our trouble spots from other teams is only going to cause problems in the future. Face it folks, we havent got our stadium yet and until we do, we are still operating as a small market team. Our success depends on maximizing talent while at the same time paying very little for it. Value. This proposed deal does not at all fit that pattern. I also dont like giving up young talent for an immediate fix - at least in this situation. Having young talent is a commodity, it is an asset that can be used in an emergency. But, we have some questions on the horizon that will need to be answered with young talent. I am not in favor of such a deal. We have the talent to shore up our team right now within our farm system.
May 31, 200422 yr This is stupid. The D-Rays are not going to trade Huff after just resigning him. They have no reason to do so. If I were going to do a trade with the D-rays for Hall, I would try to get Baez in that deal also. He would be a heck of a set-up man.

I think, and I dont know, that the idea would be to move Huff to LF. Or even RF. But I dont think this would be wise. We have Stokes, Willingham, Aguila, Hermida, Reed, Ambres - we have a lot of talent that could take over at C or even platoon in LF (or be pushed to RF). Yes, I know Stokes is a 1B. But having a guy hit like he does is always an asset - we could trade him or keep him and put him in the OF. He has big time power and I have heard him compared to Sexson. In the meantime, you call up Treanor, give him a shot and go from there. Send Castro down, deal him, whatever. Heck, package he and Oliver together and send them to Colorado. I am sure we can get something in return.

May 31, 200422 yr Here you go: Oliver and Castro to Colorado for Brian Fuentes and Brad Hawpe? Fuentes is a lefty and throws heat - getting 10Ks per 9IP. Hawpe is a big lefthanded hitter (6'4") and may have some pop (5 HRs in 37 ABs at Colorado Springs Pacific Coast League AAA).

LF is perfect, I'm still in the boat that Niner has lost some on his swing. The club IMO will be looking at two position to improve offensively at the trading deadline LF and catcher as it looks right now. Huff would be perfect $$$ and PR wise. My first option is Kendall, but the more Pittsburgh stays in it the less likely it will happen. My second option was Barajas until Laird went down with an injury and he had to assume the full time duties at catcher. Hall, Huff and Carter are still young so your not just trading for a vet on the down side of his career, so the prospects you give up are worth it, because this guys would be part of your future...again its just an opinion :cool

May 31, 200422 yr I think the stuff the Marlins have in the minors are a cheaper better option right now while definitely need to eventually trade for relief help, I do not think going after a catcher would truly be worth it. Besides Marlins have never once traded with the Devil Rays why start now.

They are usually so full of typos and errors I just got used to deciphering them rather than reading them and this one was, well, pretty damn straightforward! That is on me now... :lol Anyway, since this is only a proposition and not some rumor, I still think you are way off here. Huff, in my opinion, is untouchable for that franchise. He is a legitamate power threat and that is not exactly a dime a dozen these days. Especially for the D Rays. In fact, they got some very good OF talent, but those guys arent capable or hitting 30+ HRs anytime soon. You are looking at giving up Stokes for Huff, which is fair, but you will also have to throw in some more talent and that is where it gets sticky. And that is just for Huff. Hall and Carter dont interest me. We can get a catcher from someone else. Heck, call up Treanor and give him a shot. And we have talent similar to Carter right now in our farm system. In fact, I think Ben Howard has way more upside than Carter. I just dont see any reason to make a deal right now. I think we have enough in our arsenal to right our own ship.
