June 2, 200422 yr I wouldn't say he's done it a lot.... It's still the bullpen throwing the pitches... but man I just can't grasp the thinking here.
June 2, 200422 yr Our bullpen just got rammed by one of the best offenses in the major leagues. I say you'll calm down and look forward to the 4 games vs New York.
June 2, 200422 yr Perisho is our lefty specialist. It's his job and he didn't do it. Give up a hit, alright. Give up a HR? Again? Come now. I would've liked to see Benitez up, especially after not being used the past two days but that would've been a risk too. I am waiting for Beinfest's moves eagerly. It's pretty sad to have only one arm in the bullpen that doesn't make you totally pessimistic and nervous. What's the point of a starting rotation as good as ours? Lefty shlefty. Is Perisho better than Benitez? Is there any batter where you want Perisho in over Benitez? Is there any batter where you want Ben Howard in over Benitez? I understand it's a tie game & you could be looking at extra innings, etc... but which inning are you saving Armando for? The 10th? 11th? 14th? Don't you need to get to those innings first? Tie game at home, if it's the top of the 9th your closer should be the first one out of the bullpen. It's the only inning you're guaranteed to see him.
June 2, 200422 yr Our bullpen just got rammed by one of the best offenses in the major leagues. I say you'll calm down and look forward to the 4 games vs New York. The sad thing is that all 3 games looked winnable. is fine to say calm down, but so far this team hasn't responded well to heartbreaking loses. Hopefuly we can take 2 or more from the mets. All I'm hoping for tomorrow is a quality start from AJ where he goes 6 innings allowing 4 or less runs.

Hey man, I understand what you're saying. Especially considering the bullpen failures of the last two days, I wanted to see Benitez. He could've gone 2 innings. Give us a chance to stay in the game here. The point is... you are supposed to be able to trust your bullpen and specialists to do their job. Cinci's just too hot for us to handle, I guess. I can't say Jack was right here, but I understand his thinking if I don't support it. He feels guys should do their job.
June 2, 200422 yr Our bullpen is one of the major reasons we were able to win 8 of 10 prior to this sweep. They are in a collective slump right now so you guys wanna call them garbage. That streak was the exception. Just imagine our record if this bullpen could hold a lead. We shouldn't have to rely on our starters to go 7 every time and then pray somebody can squeak thru the 8th to get to Mando. After Mando this bullpen is nothing but retreads, rookies, and just generally borderline MLB players. We're going to have to have one, probably two quality additions (especially since Fox's situation looks bleak). The sooner the better.
June 2, 200422 yr Fishywishy (Fishywishy?), I agree with you. You have to trust your bullpen. My point is that there wasn't any reason to use Perisho first, or Ben Howard for that matter. It's just a strategy issue & I don't know why it's bothering me so much (well yes I do)... but it's just eating me alive right now. Tie game, top of the 9th inning. There is NO SITUATION at this point where you're putting in Benitez to close out the game with the lead. So why isn't he the first one you go to? If the game stretches to 11, 12, 13 innings, jump off that bridge when you come to it. Ugh, I need a drink.
June 2, 200422 yr Marathon, not a sprint. Remember that. Sure, it sucks to have wasted a good performance by Willis, but that will happen. I hardly think we should blame this loss on the bullpen. 7 hits for this team and only 1 run. Cincy got 5 hits and scored 3 runs (thanks to a homerun by Casey - but calm down, bullpen haters). Pierre got thrown out at second. You could argue that wasnt a good thing too. This team had 15 LOB to Cincy's 2 LOB! That is appalling. Blame the offense this time. They just couldnt get it done. It is like a lot of foreplay but no scoring. I got blue balls watching this team.

June 2, 200422 yr One thing is absolutely certain without doubt - Mando has ZERO EFFECT on the outcome of any game in which he rides the pine.? When you die without firing all your weapons - you CHOOSE TO LOSE. Thank you for expressing my rambling frustration more clearly. and it's not as if "well our middle relief guys are good too, they should be able to get a few outs too..." of course they should, but is there ANY COMPARISON between Benitez and everyone else in our pen? Anything close? It's baffling. See, I'm not going to get any sleep for weeks over this. Someone fetch a tranquilizer gun...
June 2, 200422 yr I got blue balls watching this team. Haha. I got the female equivalent of blue balls. Blue boobs? Nah, that doesn't make sense. and HotCorner..the name was just the first thing that came to mind. Who knows. and uh, it rhymes. Tonyi is making a good case here.
June 2, 200422 yr Bullpen? Jack has left the best reliever in baseball this year on the bench for 3 straight days. you could argue using mando yesterday in the 10th and i would agree on that. i wouldnt of used him today in the 9th anyway. be realistic....you cant have mando in every damn situation. your closer is usually most effective when they are in that role. look at closer's stats....many tend to pitch worse in non save situations. And people were complaining a month ago that Jack was using him too often...Cant have it both ways

June 2, 200422 yr Certain parts of our bullpen need help. But Perisho just screwed up today... no reason to say he sux... cuz he doesn't. See this is the problem...he does suck his career ERA is something like 7+ if I recall correctly The only reason his stats are good so far this season is because of the role he plays as lefty specialist....which is the ONLY role he should play... Today he got hit by a lefty so I can't really say he sucks....but he sure as hell isn't a set up guy
June 2, 200422 yr To make a move before, he sure as hell is now. Dontrelle Willis, a stand-up kid, doesn't even get a win for his amazing effort, and the team loses with bullpen failure once again. Get something done Admin, and soon, because personally, I'm pissed off. it was the offense that lost this game. you don't win in the major leagues scoring one run.
June 2, 200422 yr Let's face it our bullpen sucks When we had Chad Fox setting up it was actually above average I would say but we don't have one single set up man that is reliable in our bullpen. Bring on Eddie Guardado and his salary too, it's all we need

You don't win when your bullpen sucks in the major leagues either. how many runs in 9 innings for the pen?
June 2, 200422 yr No one, except Fishywishy (blue boobs? Hmm.... :mischief ) read my post. It sucks being the invisible man...

June 2, 200422 yr Guys, the game is over. Beinfest isn't going to trade the farm or any pieces unless he gets the trophy in the mail overnight. Got it?

June 2, 200422 yr look at closer's stats....many tend to pitch worse in non save situations. Your numbers are prone to be higher if you're brought in with the game tied in the 8th and runners in scoring position than with a 3-run lead in the ninth. Told ya so about Perisho. If he's not using the platoon advantage to help his numbers he's walking a tough lefty or giving up a spattering of hits to righties. Phelps or Gracesqui could do just as well, if not better, if allowed to face as many lefties.
June 2, 200422 yr Hey. How about just giving the credit to Casey. He had two clutch hits off some pretty good pitches today. There's a reason he is leading the majors in hitting, and is flirting with a .400 BA. And Lidle had the curveball really going today. He was on and able to keep our guys off balance. His stuff looked real good from where I was sitting. It was a tough loss, but you have to give credit to the Reds. They remind me quite a bit of the 2003 Marlins.......always fighting back.
