June 5, 200422 yr Rock News Creed Splits Stephanie Cole - Clear Channel News It was only last week that the Vermont-based band Phish called it quits after 21 years, and now another rock act has done the same. After a decade of making hits, the members of Creed have decided to go their separate ways, reports Billboard.com. Lead singer Scott Stapp says, "Creed was one of the most amazing journeys through music and friendship I am blessed to say I was a part of." While making their stamp on the music world, the band's three albums sold 30 million units worldwide. Although the members of Creed will no longer be jamming together, they will start other projects. "It's kind of sad to end a chapter of your life, but it's also exciting to be starting a new one," Creed songwriter/guitarist Mark Tremonti says in a statement. Along with Tremonti, Creed drummer Scott Phillips, original Creed bassist Brian Marshall and former Mayfield Four singer/songwriter Myles Kennedy, will start a new project called Alter Bridge. The band's debut album will be released August 10. Songwriter/singer Stapp is continuing his work on a solo debut album with producer 7 Aurelius, and will get a little help from the Canadian rock band Tea Party. A Creed greatest hits compilation will be released later this year. Oh well, it wasn't bad while it lasted.
June 5, 200422 yr It pretty much looks like they just kicked Stapp to the curb! Too bad I thought his vocals pulled the music together pretty good.
June 5, 200422 yr Author It pretty much looks like they just kicked Stapp to the curb! Too bad I thought his vocals pulled the music together pretty good. Well he kept getting beat up by the ***** of an ex-wife of his. You don't think that was just a bit embarrasing? :shifty
June 5, 200422 yr I 'm goin to be honest. After a bottle of Goldschlager and a bunch iof beers, CREED SUCks. yEAH, they had an okay saong here or there, but they suck. Just my opinion, enough sad.
June 5, 200422 yr As much as Stapp claimed they were an "Orlando band," it was people in Tallahassee like me that supported that dick and helped them become what they were. Phillips (drummer) visits Tally a lot, and I believe Marshall lived there some of the time after being kicked out of Creed. Tremonti made that band. i just hope he displays his thrashing solo ability with his new band. He is has so much guitar talent he displays outside of his albums, it is sick! Regardless, I'll copy my thread from an FSU board about Tremonti's new band... Creed is dead, Alter Bridge is born!!! Hopefully this turns out as well as I hope. Stapp (Creed singer) is off on his own. Tremonti (Creed guitarist) and Phillips (Creed drummer) reunite with the old Creed Basist (Marshall) and new singer to form Alter Bridge. I've never heard the new singer, but if he has any talent, this band should be better than creed. The new album comes out August 10, and I'll be one that buys it. Tremonti is the man! Below is Tremonti representing FSU in the studio: Phillips representing FSU as well: I found this question and answer pretty funny: 14) Question: What was Brian doing while he was gone? Brian Marshall: I took some time to get my head straight. Leaving was a low point for me. It had gotten to a point where Stapp and my personal differences created a situation where we just couldn?t be on the same stage anymore. It got to a point where it was unhealthy for the band and for me and I was unceremoniously dismissed. Following that, there was a point where I didn?t want to do music at all. After some time I built a studio, started another band, and started some producing. Then I got the call from Mark and I was just so excited to hear from him. We got together and jammed and just hearing him play again was amazing. I?m so glad to be back, it?s like a rebirth.
June 5, 200422 yr Hell, I'm sitting here bored listening to Nine Inch Nails, so I might as well give some links to the new band. Creed disbanding message: Bye, bye Stapp Here is a 20 Q&A session with Alter bridge: 20 Q&A Alter Bridge Bio: Bio Studio pics working on the album: Representing FSU, baby!
June 5, 200422 yr Freaky, as I was reading other threads Wind-Up Records sent me this email: Dear Creed Fans, The following information will be released to the news media later today, but we wanted you to hear it first: SCOTT STAPP AND MARK TREMONTI READY NEW MATERIAL FOR FIRST POST-CREED RELEASES One of the most successful songwriting partnerships and groups in the history of the music business disbands after nearly a decade together. June 4th -- After nearly a decade together, Creed has decided to disband. During their 8 years and 3 albums together (My Own Prison, Human Clay, Weathered) Creed achieved countless Rock & Roll milestones and sold over 30 million albums worldwide. With their unprecedented success at radio and their captivating live shows, Creed became one of the most successful acts to rule the charts over the past ten years. Creed songwriter/ guitarist Mark Tremonti has decided to join forces with Creed drummer Scott Phillips, original Creed bassist Brian Marshall and former Mayfield Four singer/ songwriter Myles Kennedy. The new band, named Alter Bridge, will release their debut album on Wind-up Records on August 10th of this year. Expect a promotional acoustic tour of radio stations later this Summer, followed by a worldwide tour to begin in late August or early September. Creed songwriter / singer Scott Stapp has been busy in the studio writing and recording over the past several months. His first post-Creed recording will be featured on an album coming on August 31st via Wind-up Records that will pool together superstar talent, as they individually offer compositions inspired by the film The Passion of the Christ. Simultaneously to tracking his contributions to the Passion title, Stapp will continue to work with producer 7 Aurelius, and has joined forces with Canadian rockers The Tea Party to work on his solo debut. On the dissolution of Creed, Tremonti commented, ?It?s kind of sad to end a chapter of your life, but it?s also exciting to be starting a new one. We?ll always be proud of the music we made with Creed, but Alter Bridge gives me the opportunity to start over with a different perspective and a more evolved direction. This band begins and ends with the love of the music.? Phillips continues, ?Creed was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but I?m really excited to be starting over as well. The most significant things that we are taking from the Creed experience are the lessons that we learned. We truly believe that the decisions we?ve made for our future are the right ones. After writing and rehearsing the new material, we are confident that we?ve made the right choices.? Stapp shared, ?Creed was one of the most amazing journeys through music and friendship I am blessed to say I was a part of. I made memories I can never replace! I just want to thank the fans who supported us and became a part of the Creed experience. We could not have accomplished anything without you!(fans).? Also in 2004, Wind-up Records will be releasing a Creed Greatest Hits compilation. Details will be made available as plans for the album take shape.
June 5, 200422 yr Creed's first album was the only thing worth anything IMO. They had some good songs on the album with pretty powerful lyrics. The rest of their stuff was just so/so. Shame they broke up, though.
June 5, 200422 yr If you didnt have Stapp's powerful bass of a voice on the CD....they would be just another band IMO.
June 5, 200422 yr If you didnt have Stapp's powerful bass of a voice on the CD....they would be just another band IMO. And if you just had Stapp and today's regular guitar players, they would have been Puddle of Mudd. :lol We'll see. If the new singer is good, Alter Bridge will be much more successful than anything Stapp does.

The only time ive been more pissed about a breakup was when Rage Against The Machine broke.... :thumbdown

I just wish Cornell would play some rhythm guitar and allow Morrello to show his stuff. I viewed Zack in a similar fashion to Stapp. I liked some of their stuff, but I wasn't a fan of them as people. A lot of Zack's lyrics are full of s***. I tend to ignore some of Zack's and Stapp's lyrics when listening to the CDs. :hat Wakeeeeeee uppppppppppppppppppppppppppp!!! :thumbup
June 5, 200422 yr Oh, and I guess my least favorite breakup was Smashing Pumpkins. I would say the real Guns N Roses, but Axl's crazy ass stopped them from ever making music, so I saw the breakup coming years ago. GNR is without a doubt the biggest underachievers ever because of Axl's stupidity. They probably would have passed Zeppelin as the most successful hard rock band of all time. Oh well, at least Metallica, NIN, and Pearl Jam are still together, and Audioslave/Velvet Revolver have been born from the breakups of STP/GNR/Soundgarden/Rage.
June 6, 200422 yr celebrate good times c'mon ... whoohoo about time ... the worst band in the world has broken up :cheers what a day ... I must go celebrate marlins win, creed breaks up ... what else can I ask for ... sorry to those who liked the band, but I really hated them ... I dont mean to offend anyone but they blow one thing ... Tremonti was talented
June 6, 200422 yr Meh, not exactly a band I'll miss. It hasn't exactly gotten much attention, but that doesn't surprise me.
June 6, 200422 yr Author I wonder if Scott Stapp is going to turn into the next Zach De La Rocha? :mischief2 Didn't he also say that he had a project coming after the breakup of RaTM?

As "good" as their lyrics were I was not a fan of their presentation. De La Roche SCREAMING EVERY SINGLE LINE, EVERY SINGLE WORD! Plus, the music just wasn't that strong to me. Their bass player is a lot better than that, the guitar was just... mediocre. Just kind of grated on your nerves after awhile. I came out of a Rage concert (WAAAY before they were big when they were touring with some other group, long forgotten, that was on the Crow soundtrack) and listening to their albums feeling like I'd just spent an hour listening to some nutcase in an insane asylum screaming his case at me. To me the best singing frontmen are ones who can sing and vary their style. Scott Weiland, Glen Danzig, hell even Iggy Pop. All great frontmen who don't lend their voice to one particular sound (all of Stapp's singing sounds the exact same, with his "I'm feeling it" poopypants face and downward fist-pull move to show us how much he's into the sing and how powerful the lyric is).
