June 26, 200422 yr I am not a fan of firing coaches, but I believe removing Robinson could be a move that is needed at this time. Sometimes when a coach loses his job the players feel responsible and the mindset changes. Even if this gives the team a boost for just 10-15 games that could make all the difference in this pennant race. I also can not pinpoint where Robinson has done quality work. Some examples: Ramon Castro: Raw talent that has not been molded. The guy DID hit at one time, keep that in mind. He went from promising prospect to our worst nightmare. Miguel Cabrera: As good as he is, how many times do we need to see him K on an offspeed pitch low and outside? When will Robinson work on looking for the offspeed pitch and taking it to RF and simply fouling off the fastball? With 2 strikes Miguel is looking fastball and trying to pull the offspeed pitch....every at bat. Hee Seop Choi: .323 average when he puts the ball in play with less than two strikes. .178 average (22-123) when he puts the ball in play with 2 strikes. 0-26 when the count is 1-2. Don't you think THIS is where a batting coach steps in and works on adjustments late in the count? Sea Bass: He is hitting now. He had a great first 1/2 last year. So when he slumps for months at a time, what is happening? I am not saying Robinson is to blame. Players need to be responsible for their results. But what is Bill Robinson adding to this team? I think a change could only assist the hitters. I know a change will change the mindset and possibly win us a few games.
June 26, 200422 yr It's only a matter of time before Robinson is fired at this rate. The hitting coach is always the first to go when the offense struggles.
June 26, 200422 yr I agree with your line of thinking. But doubt any change would be made until after the ASG as Bill is one of the coaches.
June 26, 200422 yr Lenny Harris wtf lenny harris is a career what? .260 hitter? guy is awesome but hes terribly overrated as the all time pinch hit leader...anyone given his amount of opportunities would be in the same spot

June 26, 200422 yr Author My choice is Tony Perez if he is interested and has the ability to teach hitting. He already has a relationship with these players and considering English is not the main language for 4 of our eight starters, his ability to speak Spanish (not sure Robinson does or does not) is a plus.

June 26, 200422 yr I think Robinson may need to be relieved of some of his duties. this team can hit, but he can't get them to be consistent.
June 26, 200422 yr some of the best hitting coaches have been the ones that couldnt hit a lick in the majors...Robinson needs to go the marlins have not hit all year and he's supposed to help them make adjustments and they havent...sometimes change in needed..
June 26, 200422 yr I like the suggestion of Andre Dawson, maybe not relieve Robinson of his duties but just have Andre come in and help out some
June 26, 200422 yr Bring in Tony Gwinn. . . He likes Jack He's manager at San Diego State Don't think he'll leave, but I think it's worth a chance If not Tony and The Hawk can split the duties I think. Better two hall of famers than one :cheers
