My NEW Rant

Featured Replies

Rune,

Instead of complaining about Cabrera over Abreu, you should be complaining about Alou over Abreu.

441554

Which is why I already stated in this thread it's Alou who deserves to be left out, out of anyone. I was just debating Cabrera because Josh ranted that I'm an idiot for thinking that their's a better choice out there besides Cabrera.

Third: it's sad to see no Luis in Houston. In my mind Luis Castillo will always be a top three major league second baseman, considering all he contributes to the success of this team.

well um... he has been like the 4th or 5th best 2B in the NL what do you expect?

are you kidding?

here's what josh said (you quoted it yourself, so i dont see how its so difficult to understand):

First: To the people who said Miguel Cabrera should not have been an All-Star: You, my friends, are idiots. That is all.

its pretty straightforward if you ask me.

he should cabrera should be an all-star. he most certainly didn't contend theres no more deserving all star than cabrera...thats idiotic.

you counter with abreu > cabrera.

thats a horrible argument in light of alou.

Second: Hee Seop Choi should not be batting third, nor should Jeff Conine. Some of your little minds don't comprehend that the fifth batter usually gets more opprotunities to drive in runs than any other spot in the order, and the only reason he has 33 RBI is the no lefties thing, and because the guy walks and K's all the freakin' time.

THANK YOU!

as i had to argue this yesterday because people think choi is the greatest thing ever.

"but his obp is .400".. :thumbdown

so what is a better stat then?

do tell.

i don't care what the better stat is.

i'm not one who judges people based just upon statistics.

choi should not bat 3rd, and that's that.

so how do you judge a player then?

Sixth: This kind of ties into the Carl Pavano situation. I honestly believe that Jeffrey Loria is going to do whatever it takes to put the Marlins back in the World Series in 2005 (hopefully this year, too). I believe he will KILL to keep our rotation together and the rest of our teams' key cogs.

You my friend are going to be very dissapointed if you believe in Jeffrey Loria....

You all feel free to rip me for saying this, but by this time 3 years from now you all will not be fans of Loria at all.

Book it.

by watching them play.

just like a game. how do you know if it's a good game or not if you don't watch it?

you think the statistics show all aspects of the game? of course not. you can't go to espn.com and look up a boxscore and see how great a game was.

yea.... so when I watch Ty Wiggington hit bombs every time he plays us, and then watch Scott Rolen struggle when he plays us, Ty must be better because I dont need to go see some stats, I saw with my eyes that Wiggington must be the better player.

way to blow things out of proportion.

because it's always that "you're right, i'm wrong" attitude.

just use the 'ignore' feature for me, if i really bother you that much.

you can go 0/4 in a game and still have a good game.

I may very well be wrong on Koch, but I am right on this one.

I'm not saying Loria is Huizenga or anything, but you all think much too highly of a man who inherited a talented team with a low payroll and watched them win a world series, especially based on his past history.

Loria had nothing to do with them winning a world series last year, that is all I'm saying. Feel free to rip me some more for posting such logic Ramp or anybody else for that matter.

:)

443327

i will say that loria did indeed go below all expected opening day payroll figures (while doing the virtually unprecedented by not increasing payroll after winning a WS), and still entered the season virtually unscathed. because of what huizenga did in 97, loria can get away with quite a bit down here.

that said, i'm still waiting to see what moves we make up to the trade deadline before i come to any conclusions about the guy.

by the way, marlins2003 is about to rip you a new one for criticizing loria. hehe... consider this your heads up :p

Ok that's fair alky, can't argue with anything you said.

And as for getting ripped by people for criticizing Loria, I could really care less what people think of me on an internet message board.

I understand the point of your post but I have to disagree based on your use of the word "watched", which at least to this reader implies he (J Loria) sat back passively throughout last year's run and didn't contribute to making the team better.

To say he had "nothing" to do with the team winning the World Series is A) incredibly uninformed, B) so far from the truth it's almost laughable and C) seems as if you have an axe to grind.

Not only did he earn the respect of fans throughout South Florida last season by digging in his pockets to come up with the money needed to finance their run, he was the team's number one fan night after night even as the Herald and the Sun-Sentinel heaped scorn upon him with clock-like regularity. I don't know the man personally but I for one am proud he's our owner and I believe he contributed mightily to our success in 2003.

The season was filled with little things he did for the team - side trips to Vegas to clear their heads after a humiliating west coast trip, and other things, team dinners, etc. - he was and is like any owner we've ever had and I'll say it again, I'm proud he's our team owner.

P.S. Alka, I don't think I need to rip anyone a new one because I disagree. OM has his point of view and I have mine. Frankly I'm lovin' what the ChiSox are doing this season and I have no bone to pick with OM.

Fair enough Marlins.

I am aware he did some things last year to help the team, but none of them were terribly significant.

To be honest with you, the Conine trade was a mid market trade that turned out great (See:Conine vs. Philly last season) so IMO that was more good luck than anything else.

The problem I have with Loria is he didn't even increase payroll the year after WINNING a world series. Now I know he couldn't have realistically kept Pudge and Encarnacion and Urbina and all those folks, but at the same time he is putting a defending world champion team on the field that is nowhere near as good as the team that was on the field last year.

Loria left blatant and obvious holes in this lineup and bullpen last offseason, and has yet to do anything even resembling trying to make a trade this year to make the team better.

Those are the problems I have with Loria right now, that and the fact I think he has been putting on a world class front to try and get a new stadium, but that's a whole seperate issue.

First-

There is no need for insults.

Second-

There is no need for name-calling.

I do not have a small mind nor am I an idiot. I disagree with some of your points and agree with some of them- that doesn't diminish my IQ or my brain size at all.

If I remember correctly, Cabrera didn't get voted in. It was because the guy got traded and that left a spot open. Let's face it, whether Cabrera goes up and hits the long ball or he's called out on strikes, he's the IT for our team this season. He's the golden boy. Do you hear the crowd reaction when he goes up to bat? Screaming ensues and these people could care less whether he whiffs or dings- they're chanting all the way. The same (to a certain extent) with Choi. I think they chant Choi because it's fun to say, IMHO)

I also suggested that Choi hit third. We need to shake something up. That order isn't any better or worse that any other because we've been on such a downer for the past weeks. At this point, I'd get into the line-up myself, if I thought it would win games.

Who said anything that ripped Mike? You act as if there are twenty threads calling for Lowell's head.

We are all sad that Luis didn't get to Houston. Hell- I'm sorry that Alex Gonzalez didn't get to Houston. I think he's one of the most underrated short stops out there. It's hard to get attention when you've got A-Rod and Jeter in front of you.

Perhaps you should have gone back and read all the posts that have been made during your computer problems before coming back and ripping everyone.

does dishing out money for Pudge count as "anything"?

does going out & getting Urbina count as "anything"?

does going out & getting Conine count as "anything"?

Beinfest is making the decisions on players, but if Loria didn't give Beinfest the green light to make these moves, the Marlins almost certainly aren't in the playoffs last year.

Loria doesn't bat or pitch, so he's way down on the list as far as credit is concerned....

but to say he had "nothing to do with it" is just lying to yourself. you can't sit there & say that with a straight face. (type it with a straight hand? whatever.)

and the hole in the bullpen wasn't there until Fox went down with an injury.

If you can honestly tell me that this bullpen would be fine if Fox is there, you are lying to yourself.

As for Pudge, they signed a guy who wanted to play for them for 1 year. Was it a good move?? Yes. Was it a long term committment to winning?? No.

The Urbina move was also good, but yet again, bringing him in wasn't exactly a long term committment to winning.

Those, my friend, are called support moves. Making moves like that gains support from your fanbase, and therefore allows you to get away with not raising payroll after winning a world series, leaving holes in your bullpen and lineup after winning a world series, and things to that degree.

in terms of adding payroll--what the owner of a team does--the last two trades weren't anything. we gave up the farm so we didn't have to pay for them. i'd actually call those trades a strike against loria.

and pudge--sure, he dished out $4 mil last year and we'll eventually give him another $6mil. the total yearly payroll figure is what is signifcant, though. last year he exceeded expectations. this year, on the other hand... let's just say i really want to see what the trade deadline holds in store for us.
