Marlins eye rebound behind Penny

N.Y. Mets (44-41) at Florida (43-43), 6:05 p.m. ET

By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

Mired in their worst slump of the season, the Marlins eagerly await the All-Star break.

However, they have two key games with the Mets before they get their needed time off.

Brad Penny gets the ball on Saturday as the Marlins strive to even the series with the Mets, while gathering some momentum as they prepare for what is shaping up as a competitive second half in the tightly bunched National League East.

Traditionally, Penny has struggled against the Mets. The right-hander is 1-8 with a 6.75 ERA, giving up 49 earned runs in 65 1/3 innings. Penny has dropped two straight starts and is 1-5 with a 5.01 ERA over his last has seven starts.

At home, he has been effective, compiling a 25-14 all-time record with a 3.55 ERA.

At Pro Player Stadium, Glavine is 6-11 with a 4.31 ERA.

"Just keep battling and go out there and do the best you can do every night. The second half is coming right now, and in the second half you want to play good and do the little things you have to do. The main thing is we have to stay close to first place."-- Shortstop Alex Gonzalez, on not getting down despite the Marlins' recent skid

DT's Prediction: Glavine gets PWNED, Fish win 23-3 dammit...

With Tommy G on the mound, you'll be lucky to get one run.

except that Glavine sucks at the Pro and it doesnt get any better when Red is playing.

Red PWNS Glavine

I would agree, and since we have been playing so badly you are probably going to be right, but we usually hit Glavine pretty well.

Why don't you go back to your Mets board?

Glavine had a nice start to the season but I think the old man is coming back down to last years earth

BIG game for Mike Lowell against this meatball throwin LEFT hander

Good play from Piazza. Luis Castillo was trying to get a bunt base hit, but it worked as a sacrifice.

Solid single up the middle. The Marlins are on the board! Mike Cameron misplays the ball allowing Miguel to get to second.
