July 10, 200421 yr all the heat would need now is; *breaking news: malone comes out of retirement and signs with the heat for the league minimum* :lol
July 10, 200421 yr Malone....Riley better give HealthSouth and Doctor's Hospital a call. Time to get the full time penthouse ready.
July 10, 200421 yr Yea I hear ya, but just look what we did with odom and wade this year..Imagine what could happen in time.. I want shaq I do but then again I don't want to lose Odom. 450129 i know what you mean. i would hate to see odom go scince he fit in so well here. its a shame, but, im sure shaq will help compensate

And the guy has a problem with his free throws.. I mean other than that he's awesome.. I don't know it's sooo bittersweet cause you get a for sure allstar but you lose so much potential and who knows what else
July 10, 200421 yr just think of how season tickets will boost......................... 450140 I would want him to do a sequel to Kazaam! hmm I stole that fromt he paper :shifty
July 10, 200421 yr Author No Malone for me I can learn to forgive Shaq for being a Laker, but Karl Malone is asking too much. I think Haslem can be a capable starter, Allen also had very good stretches against the Pacers. And if this trade does happen who knows maybe Riles will make some more moves.

July 10, 200421 yr Shaq would give the Heat a dominant presence, but is he worth the risk? After the Heat's nice playoff run, it's clear Riley wants to strike while the iron's hot. But is he sacrificing a nice, long-term run with a maturing club for a quick, two-year shot at the title? If the Heat have to give up Grant, Odom and Butler, they're essentially left with Shaq at center and Jones and Wade in the backcourt. Having Shaq counts for a lot, but it's awfully tough to win without an experienced four, three and point. Giving up the three players for Shaq isn't the problem. On talent, it's a pretty fair deal for Miami. It's the lack of depth a move like that creates that is worrisome. If Shaq is still out of shape or gets injured, the team is wiped out. Also, will Mickey Arison, the Heat's owner, really agree to the huge extension Shaq is seeking? Chris Ford, ESPN Insider I'm not a fan of the Heat, I honestly have no opinion on them, but I hate this trade for them. Shaq is getting old and showing it. I don't really buy the "he'll be mad and focused" theory anymore because he's not that kind of guy. The older he's gotten, the more laid back he's gotten. He's getting his 28 million either way. He's injury prone, he can't shoot free throws, and the Heat are going to get dominated during those 10-12 minutes he's out of the game. Honestly, I think if they make this move, they're going to end up worse off now and later. Shaq is still dominant......sometimes. Like Fake Das said, the deal doesn't work without Butler and who cares if you have that good big man when you have no 4, no 3, and a debatable 2 (Jones is mediocre), and no depth.

July 10, 200421 yr Another thing, I fail to see, honestly, how that team (if you trade those 3) with Shaq and the rest are any better, if at all, than the 03-04 Lakers. Wade isn't better than Kobe and the rest of the roster is full of role players. And we saw what the Pistons did to that team, so the Heat would hardly even be the favorites in their own conference.
July 10, 200421 yr and who did they have before? odom? grant? what about when they were on the bench 450151 what?????
July 10, 200421 yr and who did they have before? odom? grant? what about when they were on the bench 450151 The guys who would now be starting would come in the game. So, those bench players become starters and then what happens to the bench?
July 10, 200421 yr Author Like Fake Das said, the deal doesn't work without Butler and who cares if you have that good big man when you have no 4, no 3, and a debatable 2 (Jones is mediocre), and no depth. Why? If Gray is right they will take a 1st rounder. SO who would you rather have as your frontcourt Odom/Grant or Haslem/Shaq and we might be able to get a better starter than Haslem. its the equivilent of trading minor leaguers for a 2 month rental in the MLB. shaq doesnt guarentee a title As we were one of the teams Shaq requested I'm sure his next deal would finish out his career with Miami. This would probably be discussed before any deal.
July 10, 200421 yr eddie would be gone and so would grant in 2 years, and if shaq is gone the heat will have about 40 million dollars in cap room. shaq may not guarantee a title, but he is the closest thing that does. ESPECIALLY in the east

So, those bench players become starters and then what happens to the bench? 450154 its esentially 2 for 1 because of a pick meaning your -1 player. that is not much of a difference at all off the bench.

July 10, 200421 yr Why? If Gray is right they will take a 1st rounder. I believe Das is right, the money without Butler doesn't add up, unless the Heat are going to throw more bench money into it (which thins the bench anymore. And getting Shaq HARDLY makes them the favorites in the East. I'd put them 3rd behind Detroit and Indiana, even if they still have Butler.

July 10, 200421 yr eddie would be gone and so would grant in 2 years, and if shaq is gone the heat will have about 40 million dollars in cap room. shaq may not guarantee a title, but he is the closest thing that does. ESPECIALLY in the east 450157 just cause u have money doesnt mean theres talent available. look at the jazz last year and this year. they had plenty of cap last year and got nothing. and this year got desperate and overpaid for boozer. from the looks there will be no high profile FA for a while. all of these players currently have contracts exceding 2 years.Duncan,Garnett,Kobe will be under contract,Tmac,Nowitzki, etc.those are just a few of the many high profile FA. having money doesnt mean players will be available. Keeping odom is the only way to guarentee u will have players. wait till eddie and grant are gone then go after a big guy. till then just try to make by with what u have

Shaq> J oneal Wade> next best pacer Butler>miller and if the pistons dont keep rasheed Miami>Detroit

July 10, 200421 yr exactly, AFTER next year when wade/butler/wright will have 2 more years of experience. now subract jones and you have 40 million in cap space. tell me please how this is a bad move for miami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 450163 Well, when the Heat fail to win the championship with Shaq, it is pointless. Cap space is overrated. There are no guarantees. All cap space does is increase the chances your team does something dumb (like give Okur 50 million or Alston 29 million). And I'd rather have Wade/Odom/Butler and 20 million in cap space. All I'm saying is you get Shaq and you're crippled money-wise. You've got a team (even with Butler) that has an eerie look like the Lakers of this past year, except Wade (while awesome) is no Kobe. Haslem isn't that great, if he played for the Celtics, you'd say he sucked. The bench is thin already, you lost your backup PG. I fail to see how filling one hole by creating a bunch of others makes any sense. Especially with a contract as crippling as Shaq's, even if it does come off the books in 2 years. There's no guarantee the FA class will be any good in 2 years.

Using realgm trade checker it does add up. And getting Shaq HARDLY makes them the favorites in the East. I'd put them 3rd behind Detroit and Indiana, even if they still have Butler. I of course would disagree. But anybody would have to admit it does make us better.
