July 10, 200421 yr Author I remember reading I think in some paper saying if CB is included it's a good deal for Lakers, if he's not it's a good deal for the Heat. Thats exactly how I feel and why I am all over this, if the trade happens CB would be a huge part of our team. So once again who would you rather have Odom or Shaq?
July 10, 200421 yr u dont need more than 2 stars says the 3 rings they have on their finger. they didnt do it this year but they did it 3 years strait 450173 Yeah, but this was back when they had effective role players and they played the triangle which maximizes those role players. The Heat won't be running that. Look, I'm not saying they wouldn't be good with Shaq, they would be, but they wouldn't be the favorites to win the league and they wouldn't be the favorites to win the East (provided, as you said, the Pistons keep Sheed). Their current team, with an addition of a solid backup point guard, is good enough to make the 2nd round of the playoffs, maybe even the conference finals. So why do you sacrifice an Odom to get a player like Shaq, who whether anyone wants to admit it or not, is NOT the player he was 3 years ago. He's only dominant sometimes. 450186 whooaaaa dude im totally on your side we should be against AJB. i love odom and would rather have odom right now and keep the core than get shaq.i agree hes declining. keep this team intact and go after a free agent big man later 450190 like you said, what if there no big man later?!?! what do you do then 450193 put it this way. in 2 years we lose shaq anyways. so ask urself this question and then realize that u have been wrong. if we dont make this trade in 2 years would u rather have no shaq,no butler,no odom, and 40 mill in cap...or have odom and butler and over 20 mill cap 450194 ill take the 2 years with shaq and the 40 mil in cap. and so would the heats FO. especially if that involves a title 450196 its a loss case arguing with u. u keep thinking shaq guarentees a title. it doesnt. it didnt for the lakers this year and they had payton, malone and a better bench than us. so what makes u think we would? think
July 10, 200421 yr just put it like this, if 2 years from now the heat have odom/butler/wade and there is NOTHING in the free agent market, they will not win a title. now if there is notable talent to pursue that means they could aquire shaq, have him leave, and there will be no harm done (and you have a GREAT shot for the seasons he is/was here) 450187 You don't have a GREAT shot. You're still not better than the Pistons or Spurs. If Haslem is good enough to start after this deal, then you must thing he's good. So, we're talking a team with: Wade Odom Butler Haslem Wright (assuming he's the real deal) I also like Freije from Vandy, he'll do something for you. Jones and Grant come off the books a year after Shaq does and you also need to remember with Shaq, you're not clearing 30 million in cap space because you're over it, so in actuality you're gaining 10-15 million maybe. So, do you want Wade/Odom/Butler trio and Jones and Grant both coming off the books right as Wade and Butler hit their primes and Odom is still in it or do you want Wade and Butler and 10 million in cap room one year and (depending on how you spend it) maybe 7-8 the next. This trade gets that stupid Grant contract off the books, but not the stupider Jones one and you lose Odom, who is going to get better. There's 2 drafts between then and now, who knows what you get there. You're not gonna be in the lottery, but if you're smart, you still find value. All I'm saying is if I'm a Heat fan (and I'm not), I'd be happy with the direction of the franchise before this trade and it seems to me that throwing away a chance at a long-term winner (who you can still build around) for a 2-year MAYBE run is kinda dumb. I mean, honestly, those guys are all young, if you run the franchise right, in a couple of years, you're looking at a chance to win a title for 3-4 years as legit contenders.
July 10, 200421 yr get real people, the heat are this close to gettting shaq, and people are not exited about it. Yep, I love LO as much as anyone but I can't believe some people rather have Odom than Shaq. 450183 id rather have odom and butler over shaq. 450185 that is easy for you to say when you dont write the checks and make the profits. do you have any idea how shaq would single - handedly put people in the seats? hes the most marketable player in the league! this is a buisness!!! 450195 yea im sure the heat want to get so many ppl for 1 year then shaq is gone then u have no odom or butler,we suck again and lose ppl dont come again. make money 1 year vs. keeping ur core and being good for years to come..?? 450197 first its 2 years, now its 1. you talk like if you knew the outcomes. why dont you realize that 2 years is a long time and 2 years is down the road. worst case cenario is that the heat would get shaq and do nothing with him. minus odom and butler. now what? you still have wade and wright. you can sign free agents to compensate and if not, then just sit out a year or 2 until you CAN sign free agents. again, this is a worst case senario

I don't care if it's easier to get to the Eastern Finals than the Western Finals, you've still got the best team in the NBA in your conference and I still don't see much reason to believe Heat with Shaq are much better than the Pacers. And if the East is so much easier than the West, why not keep the current team and win the damn thing?

July 10, 200421 yr u summed up my whole point right there. sacraficing a long dynasty for a 2 year rental is not smart. the heat are headed the right way and this deal only f***s that up. bottom line AJB get the point that this deal is bad for the heat longrun 450202 Sheff, it's an OMGSHAQ reaction, it's not that unexpected. I mean, sure, at first glance, who WOULDN'T want Shaq. But if you're willing to take the superstar blinders off and sit down and look at the thing, it just doesn't help much. 450205 yea, the heat have a dynasty to loose. you people dont know waht your saying. your throwing it all away. gtf out of here. how are you throwing it "all away?!?!?!??!?!?!?!" i hope you realize the heat were 42-40 last year. ill just wait till you people realize that this is a buisness and this move makes sense both financialy and performance wise. its not much of a risk at all. 450210 In their first year together. But of course, 42-40 with a rookie PG and Odom in his first year and Butler hurt half the season is awful and there's NO reason to think that they would be better this year and even better the year after and even better the year after that. None. Wade has tapped out his potential. Odom sux and Butler is gonna be hurt all the time. Wright's a bust, Haslem sux, and OMGWELOSTSKIP. Do this trade NOW! So we win 55 games instead of 49-52 and then we're worse off in 2 years. *YAWN* 450212 its funny how this entire arguement has been based on the heat aquiring shaq, no1 else and having him leave after 1 or 2 years. and doing NOTHING at all at the time that he was here. and yet here i am, putting up a legit arguement 450217 Your argument is not legit and from what me and Das Ohioan can see your nothing but a basketball star fanboy. u hear the star name and automatically say the deal should be done. in the east they heat can compete as much as they can with the current team than with shaq. u still have to go threw detroit
July 10, 200421 yr If Butler's not in the deal - you gotta pull the trigger, this chance doesn't come up every offseason. If Butler's in the deal - forget it. Simple as that.
