July 10, 200421 yr Heat execs meet with Shaq in Orlando BY ISRAEL GUTIERREZ igutierrez@herald.com ORLANDO - Representives from the Miami Heat met with Shaquille O'Neal today in Orlando at an undisclosed location to discuss a contract extenstion assuming the Heat follow through with a proposed trade that would send the L.A. Lakers center to Miami. O'Neal, who was reached outside of an Orlando-area gym, could not comment on today's talks and would not specify which team was involved, but when asked when he expected a deal to occur he said ??soon, real soon.'' There is a possibility that O'Neal spoke with Heat management on Friday night as well before today's meeting that included O'Neal's agent, Perry Rogers. Today's meeting likely included discussions about a contract extension for O'Neal that would keep him under contract through the 2008-09 season, when he would be 36 years old. O'Neal is looking for a three-year extension to go along with the two years already left on his contract. The three-year extenstion could total approximately $90 million. He is already scheduled to make $57 million over the final two years of his existing contract. The reported trade would send Lamar Odom, Brian Grant and a first-round draft pick to Los Angeles for O'Neal. Some reports include the Lakers requesting Caron Butler in place of the draft pick. Heat president Pat Riley and general manager Randy Pfund were not in attendance at the Heat's final summer league game Saturday morning. Both had been at the previous two summer league games. Neither was available for comment.
