July 10, 200421 yr w/e lets see what happens. i didnt beleive riley would sell out odom and send him back to that s*** hole in LA where he just left. i love you odom and u are the man. either way i will buy his jersey. i hope this doesnt happen but it isnt the worse thing if we keep butler 450247 yeah, for some reason i have a really hard time saying to let odom go. i have a bad feeling about it, bad feeling as in he's gonna make us regret this. i don't know, i'm just a lost soul right now waiting to see how it plays out
July 10, 200421 yr bottom line for me: its a good deal nonetheless. if butler is NOT involved, its a gimme. its a "gamble" that you have to take. the rewards outweight the risks. and as much as i love odom, he is not god. he is a star, but not a SUPER star. but i will still miss him

July 10, 200421 yr well sheff, its not every day, or every career, or every lifetime that someone knocks on your door and presents to you a player like shaq on your doorstep.
July 10, 200421 yr well sheff, its not every day, or every career, or every lifetime that someone knocks on your door and presents to you a player like shaq on your doorstep. 450253 its still gonna be a while b4 i get over odom. i hope shaq comes in here motivated and angry and proves me wrong and turns into the dominating 27ppg 12 rpg player he is. if so i will eat my words, but i still think odom is the next superstar in the league.
July 10, 200421 yr Wow. Just wow. I thought there was no chance when this was originally speculated, but now it seems quite possible. Give'm the pick and not Caron... He could be a very important piece to this team at forward in the future. So i guess.... C O'Neil F Butler F Butler G Jones G Wade ?

July 10, 200421 yr Yea well when we had Grant at center you could say we didn't really have a center either. lol. But I wasn't sure if you would throw Udonis or Rasual.
July 10, 200421 yr sheff, I see where you're coming from. But this try to think how happy you'll be when you see Wade just lobbing it over some helpless East defenders head to Shaq for the EASY one handed jam. Shaq in the East? Come on now, this is a business. You do what you do to win now. * Prays the Heat accept * And if it's for Grant, Odom, and a 1st rounder, it'd be even better. Wade, Jones, Caron, Haslem, O'Neal. Wow.
July 10, 200421 yr SHAQ-TO-MIAMI TALKS HEAT-ING UP By PETER VECSEY -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Email Archives Print Reprint July 10, 2004 -- Shaquille O'Neal's representatives will meet today with Heat boss Pat Riley in an attempt to pave the way to a trade with the Lakers, The Post has learned. The deal revolves around Miami's ability to satisfy the center's demand for a three-year extension and comparable money past the 2005-06 season when he pockets $30 million, $3M more than in '04-'05. So far, the Heat are offering to swap Brian Grant, Lamar Odom and a No. 1 pick for Shaq. The Lakers are demanding Caron Butler instead of the first rounder. Both arrangements work under the NBA's salary cap specifications. One possible snag in the deal is Grant's medical condition. Those close to the Heat believe it will be difficult for the often ailing power forward to pass a physical due to chronic back and knee problems. The Mavericks are the only other team that has any chance of acquiring Shaq; sources say owner Mark Cuban is offering Antoine Walker and Glenn Robinson, whom he first must obtain from the 76ers. Both Walker and Big Dog are on the end of their contracts. Reports of Shaq teaming up with Jermaine O'Neal in Indianapolis are totally bogus, according to Pacer sources. Shaq's people told Indy management he has no desire to play in the midwest, only for a southern-based team. The Lakers are desperate to get something done regarding Shaq within the next few days because Kobe Bryant is able to sign with another team come July 14. He has made it clear to owner Jerry Buss he'll continue to market himself as a free agent (Clippers are the only other real option) until Shaq is moved. Ultimately, Kobe must decide whether the Lakers can compete for a title with Odom, Grant and Butler by reverting to the franchise's Showtime style of run 'n stun. Should Kobe feel they can't play championship ball he may very well opt for the Clippers.
July 10, 200421 yr Both arrangements work under the NBA's salary cap specifications. well then there's no way caron should be in the deal, good So far, the Heat are offering to swap Brian Grant, Lamar Odom and a No. 1 pick for Shaq. The Lakers are demanding Caron Butler instead of the first rounder. well what do ya know, they're pushing it. they've gotta settle for the pick, take it or leave it.
July 10, 200421 yr I say make the trade even if you have include Caron Butler who is more of a slasher type player anyway.Rasual Butler can take over his spot and benefit from having big man in the middle drawing double teams and E.Jones. I'm sure Riley will make Shaq work hard in the offseason to get him in shape. After all,The Heat have best conditioning system in the league.
July 10, 200421 yr if Caron is in the deal i say no ... because he's still young and we know what he can do but than again ... whenever you can get a player of the caliber of Shaq you do it anyday without thinking otherwise he is in another level and we know what Riley likes ... a big man in the middle, so why not get the BIGGEST/DOMINANT man in the middle im up for it sounds too good to be true
July 10, 200421 yr eddie would be gone and so would grant in 2 years, and if shaq is gone the heat will have about 40 million dollars in cap room. shaq may not guarantee a title, but he is the closest thing that does. ESPECIALLY in the east 450157 no. they wouldnt. jones and shaq are not the only players on your salary cap.
July 10, 200421 yr u dont need more than 2 stars says the 3 rings they have on their finger. they didnt do it this year but they did it 3 years strait 450173 Yeah, but this was back when they had effective role players and they played the triangle which maximizes those role players. The Heat won't be running that. Look, I'm not saying they wouldn't be good with Shaq, they would be, but they wouldn't be the favorites to win the league and they wouldn't be the favorites to win the East (provided, as you said, the Pistons keep Sheed). Their current team, with an addition of a solid backup point guard, is good enough to make the 2nd round of the playoffs, maybe even the conference finals. So why do you sacrifice an Odom to get a player like Shaq, who whether anyone wants to admit it or not, is NOT the player he was 3 years ago. He's only dominant sometimes. 450186 i also wouldnt exactly put wade on the level of kobe and as a top 5 player in this league. wake up. remind me what shaq has ever won without kobe.
July 10, 200421 yr I am so torn over this A big part of me wants to see this core of young players grow...then in three years get that BIG MAN when jones and grant are off the books Wouldnt it be more fun to watch these kids play and grow and build towards a championship and possibly (and not unlikely) WIN IT ALL....wouldnt that be more rewarding??? just like when we watched Lee, Lowell, luis, Beckett, Penny, Pavano grow and FINALLY WIN.....wasnt that more rewarding than the 97 season?? I dont want to give up possibly the best future in the NBA for a two year crap-shot run at the title...........the city loves Odom...the city loves Wade....the city loves C.Butler........as these kids become superstars....THAT will bring people into the stands...the full extent of which is probablly only a couple years away. While my brain is torn over whether this is a smart move or not......... my heart is steadfast.... dont make this trade, Lets see what we've got in our hands. Lets keep this team

July 10, 200421 yr Like most have said, if Caron is in the deal screw them. If the first rounder is in there instead, than you obviously do this deal. We've been trying to rid ourselves of Grant for a while, so in reality you only give up one roster player, Lamar Odom, who is blatantly inferior to Shaq.
July 10, 200421 yr i have said it alll along if Butler is involved in this deal, riley better be smart enough to not do this deal. no butler yes, butler no.

July 10, 200421 yr you do realize that is assuming that no other contracts are signed right? you will also have wright's contract which will be worth at least 2 mil per i believe... you keep butler and he will either be resigned or jettisoned next summer... so its not that simple. geniuses.
