July 11, 200422 yr Don't get me wrong, F1 cars are true racing machines... but NASCAR and oval tracks are definitely more competitive than road courses or indy cars.
July 11, 200422 yr Easy, the NASCAR circuit makes it to alot of major US cities, is on FOX/NBC every week almost, is on when people watch TV on weekends, you can listen on the Radio, and you have the common people's car racing, not a Ferrari no one could afford.

You could be a Chevy Monte Carlo, Ford Taurus, or Dodge Intrepid. Those are your typical American sedans (Monte Carlo is a coupe) that cost no more than $25,000.

July 11, 200422 yr Well NASCAR is big here because it is on the weekends, has 3 races a week (Trucks-Craftsmen, Minor Cars-Busch, Major Cars-Nextel) and is on TV alot. Imagine they have a TV channel called SPEED to replay races during the week. Formula 1 has a TV deal with ESPN I believe. ESPN is a pay TV station, FOX and NBC are free TV.
July 11, 200422 yr Author They pass F1 races on the SPEED channel. Of course like you said the time isn't always convenient because the races are all around the world. F1 races are always on Sundays with qualifying on Saturdays, only problem is when the race is in Cina for example. EDIT: I guess I should delete this thread...nobody cares about F1...
July 11, 200422 yr I wish NASCAR was what stock car was meant to be. Making yourself a car that was as fast as you could make it. Now they have such gay rules as what angle you're wing can be...the size and weight must be down to a T. The cars are so similar, and at Daytona and Talladega, the cars are f*cking even with restrictor plates. It's so lame. Stock car racing started with 'shine-runners outrunnin the cops in the mountains of NC down to the beaches in Daytona, and everywhere in between. It was, build yourself a fast-ass car, and race it. I understand some safety rules here and there, and rules like "no adding superchargers, NOS, etc. But, damn....build an effing badass machine and race it. The cars dont have to look the same. Hell, what's the difference b/t the Dodge, Chevy, Ford, and Pontiac anyway? The body looks completely the same anyhow.

July 12, 200422 yr I'm a huge McLaren fan, been following F1 since the Senna/Prost glory days. I have never come across another true American F1 fan, they either don't care about F1 or they're bandwagon Ferrari/Schumy fans. Being one of the few American F1 fans, i've had to put up with so much crap with people over the years about NASCAR being better and stuff, i've refuted every argument in the book. Any F1 discussion that takes place on internet message boards based in American eventually turn from true F1 discussion to lame ass NASCAR vs. F1 debates, just as this thread has become. Formula 1 is the greatest form of motorsport in the world, this cannot be argued. F1 is much like baseball, it's a thinking mans game and strategy means everything. It is not boring to watch Schumacher just completely dominate everybody else, you're witnessing history in the making. 30 years from now people will look back at Schumachers dominance just as they do for Nigel Mansel, Juan Manuel Fangio, etc. Ferrari is the evil empire just as the Yankees are considered the dark side, everybody loves to hate them. NASCAR is so boring, I can't watch more than 3 laps without wanting to shoot myself.

Last year ABC had contracts with the FIA to broadcast the USGP and Montreal with the rest of the GP's being shown exclusively on the Speed channel which is owned by Fox and is ran almost identical to how FSN is ran in association with Fox. This year and for many years to come, all F1 coverage is exclusively on the Speed channel with live coverage and then rebroadcasts at 9PM on Sunday nights and also throughout the rest of the week.
