Let's talk baseball

It will be interesting to see what McKeon will say about Penny's performance tonight. The ol' Dukester had absolutely nothing and seemed, at least to this fan as if he couldn't care less. He was like an inpertinent child on the mound tonight. I was embarassed by his performance.

If Brad is trying to play his way off the team I hope McKeon sends him to the bullpen and let him miss a couple of starts after Beckett comes back and once and for all breaks this jerk of his cockiness.

I hope I'm wrong and that it was just a bad start but here he was pitching with a three run lead and he throwing them right down the middle one right after another. I wish the h*ll Pudge was in there tonight, he would have been in Penny's face after the third hit and most of the damage could have been avoided.

I love Redmond, but he's a pussycat compared to Pudge.

Derrick Lee's bat is six feet short of making him a star. I don't think its an accident that he hits so many homeruns on the road, he just can't consistently get the ball out of the park here. His unbelievable, almost magic glove is offset by his slow starts, his vicious slumps and a bat thats just a bit short, I say if we have a chance to trade him, do it. Do it now.

Penny will be sent to AAA with one more problem and converted to bullpen. He would be a good bullpen guy.

are you kidding me?

one more problem?

just last start he thre 7 scoreless innings...

some of you guys are ridiculous...

he had a 3.50era before tonight

GET A HOLD OF YOURSELVES

Ramp, I will not risk the chemistry, morale, and momentum of this team for one ungrateful Brad Penny!

wow...

this is really starting to get dumb...

why would you send Penny down and make him a bullpen pitcher?

i cant believe we are even having this argument

*chugs down Pepto*

LOL...

I have to admit, Penny would be a good closer... The next Eric Gagne? Struggling starter becomes dominant closer...

Psht! That's not the point!

I guess Mike Lowell should be sent down after sucking the big one tonight.... yea 0 for 4 or 5..... send him to AAA, turn him into a utility guy....

you guys are off your rocker

lol Pepto is not needed...

-Penny is making those around him impatient. (Sea Bass gets error tonight on easy play, he has no will to continue playing tonight b/c penny don't deserve it.)

-He has lost two games by giving up an early lead to two teams who are not that great.

-The angels are scuffling and the Mutts ae self explanatory.

-You need to send him down to put him in his place. He is blaming the manager for his mistakes!

-Blowing leads lowers morale because you don't want to play for him.

-C'mon Ramp, do I need to fully explain this?

-The bullpen thing will be an experiment, but might work. He has a good selection of pitches (mainly the curveball) that can fool a tired hitter in the late innings.

Lowell is not being stubborn, he was genuinely struggling. Penny only wants to throw the fastball and he blames everyone like a brat for his faults, Lowell doesn't do that.

That's right, its not the point. I started this thread with a supposition, that perhaps Brad would indeed like to be traded and further that he and McKeon may not get along.

I my mind a guy like McKeon might not be afraid to punish a starter to the bullpen if he thought three starts from now the guy would be straightened out. None of this means I'm correct in my suppositions, its just food for thought.

Bullpen is not punishment, its the opposite. AAA is punishment. The bullpen is good place for penny, he has the stuff and like Gagne could pull it off.

You know, I thought about this...

Brad Penny would be a very good closer...

He has a great fastball that he can come out and just start throwing automaticaly at 95 MPH, and has the curve and change to fool hitters...

I think if converted, he seriously could become a Gagne like closer...

Sea Bass' error should be charged to Penny according to you.... wow pathetic

Penny is now 0-7 witha 7era vs the Mets... and Mets have been playing good baseball as of late

So he purposely lost to the Angels?

you guys are really reaching here....

-I didnt' say he did it on purpose and i didn't say sea bass's error should be charged to him.

-He is being stubborn and not doing what he is being coached to do.

-He is trying to show up McKeon and he's barking up the wrong tree.

-Sea Bass has no excuse, but i bet penny giving up the lead in one inning didn't help him put in the extra effort.

-Mets playing good baseball? OK, if you say so.

-The Angels game should have been a Win

If you look, at first he may go smoothly and get in and out of a jam. But the second time around he suffers. Bullpen pitchers don't have a second time around. It's do or die, he will like it.

Ramp, did I say anything about Gonzo's error? I think you've missed the point completely. Jump in the time machine for a minute and lets go back to the Dempster and then Floyd trades. Probably the most outspoken player was the Duke, and the most negative.

Its not inconceivable that he'd like to play somewhere else. Demp just had a great start, maybe he'd like to be reunited with his buddy. I'm not even implying that he would toss a game, more that he doesn't see himself as part of the team McKeon is trying to create.

Maybe they told him he was in for at least X number of innings and he just had nothing tonight. Who knows?

He will not be traded. McKeon has fought these battles before and won! Manager beats out player. (Except Micelli-Boles b/c Boles wasn't strict enough)

he is not trying to show up McKeon... that is ridiculous

the Mets have won 4 of 6 going into the series...pretty good ball

we have a closer, and a future on in Spooney...

Penny needs to stay a starter...

Spooney doesn't have the health now. Looper is getting expensive. We need to control the last innings. Gagne had similar problems as Penny (only wanting to throw heater) and Tracy moved him to closer, it has worked right?
