Favorite coach(es)

Featured Replies

My favorite coach would be have to Pat Riley not just because I'm a huge Heat homer but he really has a great history behind him.

Of course he had great success with the Lake Show but I guess that isn't much to brag about considering the team he was coaching but as he went to New York, the Knicks were about as relevant as the Hawks are now and he turned them into contenders and turned them into a team that matters. Same with the Heat, the Heat were a worthless team but he made them matter again. And to think that every single team/year he coached in the NBA, made the playoffs up until the Heat's 36-46 season 3 years back. That was a 20 year streak I believe.

Besides from stats and history, he's just a great guy. I got a chance to meet him once and he's just real down to earth. He commands a lot of respect and isn't afraid to take risks and he gets the best out of his players. Too bad his coaching days are behind him but it was a great run.

I like Admin Brown a lot too, it must have not been easy to handle AI. But that's just basketball, I'm not too familiar with other coaches from other sports...only like McKeon and stuff.

Red Auerbach, he was the greatest coach in professional sports history... and he's Jewish :cool .

Auerbach was overrated.

Just about any yahoo could of coached those Celitc teams to greatness.

He was not in the least bit overrated. He never inherited those Celtics teams, he built them from the ground up, he was more than just a coach, he is also one of the greatest GM's of all time.

Furman, Ferentz is a good recruiter but better at developing the talent that hes got.

Lately, we've been stealing top recruits from the states of Ohio and Nebraska away from the Buckeyes and Cornhuskers, which I love.

Like some coaches do, Ferentz often changes the players recruited positions.. For instance, Robert Gallery was recruited as a TE and he turned out to be the best OL in the country. But then again, Ferentz's specialty is the offensive line. He was the Baltimore Ravens Offensive Line coach before he came to Iowa. Four of the 5 O-Linemen from the 2002 BT Championship season were drafted to the NFL and the other one was picked up as a FA.

Another thing I love, is that we have a lot of homegrown boys that walk-on for us and end up being great players.. For instance in the 2003 draft, we had 3 guys drafted to the NFL who were originally walk-ons... Dallas Clark (TE, 1st round), Bruce Nelson (C, 2nd) and Derek Pagel (DB, 5th).

He's a great coach and I think he'll be with us for a very long time.

Man I can't wait for football season.

i wouldn't know, i was barely born but i just read up his profile some time ago and figured out all that stuff

Man, I respect Ferentz....and I love seein walk-ons make it big (I wonder why? haha)....I sure hope that guy stays at Iowa....and doesnt jump for the NFL later, or to another more "prestigious" program.
