August 9, 200422 yr By far the best rabbit that i pulled out of my hat during my fantasy drafts, he so far has: 51.2 innings 62 Ks 32 sv 0.87 era 0.97 whip 3.39 k/bb this guy is the reason the twins will win central aside from the fact the white sox have caught the bubonic plague the angels had earlier this year. this guy would have both my mvp and cy young votes, like eckersley...
August 9, 200422 yr There are too many players having good seasons for a reliever to get the MVP, Rolen will get it. 503241 What??? You are right though, Rolen has a much better chance of getting the NL MVP than Joe Nathan. Anyways, Mulder will get the AL Cy Young.
August 9, 200422 yr what a mistake by San Fran 503355 AJ has been good at catcher. :mischief
August 9, 200422 yr I still can't get it out of my head that Nathan sucks I was working a temp job and saw his mortgage app come in and it was around the time that the playoffs were starting He did horrible down the stretch last year and the fish shelled him a little dispite his good performance this year, I'm still convinced it's a hoax
August 9, 200422 yr The Giants are really missing him, but A.J has been a great addition. I just wish they could have given someone else up, instead of Nathan. This is no fluke. I doubt he'll finish the season with an ERA under 1.00, but he will have good numbers. He started off last year with San Fran by throwing over 20 consecutive scoreless innings. I knew it'd just be a matter of time for him to figure it out.
August 9, 200422 yr I picked him up for my fantasy team after Octavio Dotel started out like crap. I must say that he's definetely been excellent *knocks on wood*.
August 9, 200422 yr I think with the lack of just godly amazing can't believe it starter numbers this year in the AL, Nathan might have a chance to be the second reliever in as many years to pick up the CY Young. MVP, however, I wouldn't count on. Vlad is having a ridiculous year, followed closely by Pudge, Manny, and David Ortiz. Not saying he might not deserve it, but I don't think he'll get it. He should get some votes though.
August 9, 200422 yr what a mistake by San Fran 503355 how many .300 hitting left handed catchers are there? Yes, we could use Nathan with our bullpen problems, but we would have had a bigger hole if we hadn't made that trade, our catchers would be Yorvit Torrealba and Alberto Castillo. And after his postseason performance last year, we had to get rid of him. the Cy Young should not go to a reliever. Most relievers are relievers because they aren't good enough to start.

If there was a way to get Pierzynski, and still have Nathan, the Giants would be in much better shape.. And I didn't really like the Ledee/F-Rod trade. Felix hasn't been the same the last few years, but I didn't see the need for another outfielder. I don't want to see playing time taken away from Dustan Mohr. Every day, I love that guy more and more.... Especially after last night's game... :thumbup
August 10, 200422 yr Joe NAthan isnt even the Cy Young ptcher on his own team, Johan Santana is a much better candidate for Cy Young than Joe Nathan 159.0 IP 183Ks 11 Wins 3.34 Era 0.99 WHIP Since June 9th he has had 12 starts and he has had 10ks or more in 9 of them This guy is a special talent and I hope he can stay with the Twins most of his career before the Yanks or Blow Sox get a hold of him
August 10, 200422 yr JOHAN JOHAN JOHAN! Glad to see someone think my way. I feel it will come down to Johan v. Mulder. But Mulder has more name rec, so he would get it.

LeDee has been awful so far, but if he can play the rest of the year like he has with the Phillies, he'll be a great 5th outfielder. But the trade was nothing more than a salary dump, so if we can cut 2 million off the payroll and not have Felix lose games for us anymore, it's alright. BTW, that catch by Mohr yesterday was the catch of the year
August 10, 200422 yr I think San Fran would probably have more wins with Nathan and no AJ than with AJ and no Nathan.. And definitely more prepared for the playoffs. Am I right Giants' fans?

Plus you would have had to keep the 21 year old santana on your roster all season in 2000, the guy with the ERA over 6, or send him back to the Astros as a rule V draft pick. A deal was likely struck before the draft that the Fish would pick Santana and immediately ship him to Minny for a player, and more cash than was required to draft Santana.

My MVP Leo Mazzone

Am I right Giants' fans? 504065 I don't think so. For a closer to get saves, you need runs on the board to get you save opportunities. As Mays24Bonds25 said before, without A.J, we're left with Torrealba and Castillo as our two catchers. You're not gonna see a whole lot of offense from those two guys. A.J is hitting .300 with 61 RBI's....

August 10, 200422 yr Author not all relievers are failed starters. many move to relief not because of a lack of starter stuff, but health problems like tendonitis. I'm sorry, but a closer with a sub 1 era with a year where no starters will end the year with less than a 3 era deserves the cy young and possibly a mvp. too many hitters are having strikingly similar seasons. sheffield, guerrero, ramirez, ortiz, even some votes will be wasted on rodriguez. they will have similar avg numbers and no clear stats to put one over the other by a significant amount (though manny will clearly be the best of the bunch.) all you need is some twins fans to start chanting "MVP" when he closes in september, and then nathan will get serious consideration.
