My question to everyone here

Featured Replies

It's just sad to see someone who has a values-system like that. To not care about anyone else but themselves. I find that selfish. To overlook how Bush is making it nearly impossible for millions of Americans to survive in order to make sure that they can bring him a little more money each week.

512755

I thank you for your needless Bush bash add there, very much appreciated.

I dont think "bush bashing" would be the correct term. "Hard facts" is more like it.

but that is besides the point

great, lets mince our words here.

You obviously lost the argument saying Accord is appalingly selfish and OMG how could he say such a thing and apparently you have no response to the excellent points Juanky or I made.

If you want me to respond to ignorance, than I will

By voting for Bush STRICTLY in order to be able to take home more money when you get your paycheck is selfish, knowing that many other people are not surviving under his power, due to his favoritism to the rich and employed.

People that use a basis like that to choose who they are going to vote for for and have that type of mentality are INDEED selfish. and please, dont give me this "how do we know he wont donate that extra money to charity" arguement, that is just fluff. how is that considered a 'good point'.

That would be a huge contradiction of views, To vote for a man that couldnt give 2 sh*ts about the poor, and than turn around and donate your extra money to them. Not gonna happen. And if someone who votes for him, indeed does that...than good for them, but they really are mixed up on what he stands for than

So you assume people who vote for Bush don't give money to charities such as the United Way or volunteer their time at soup kitchens or do any other charitable acts?

Some people just want to choose where their money goes to rather than being taxed like hell for new social programs that they feel do not adequately help the poor.

And you act like people are starving because Bush is the President and that's of course not the case.

You act like there are people who aren't at all selfish when EVERYONE has a selfish bone in their body.

So you assume people who vote for Bush don't give money to charities such as the United Way or volunteer their time at soup kitchens or do any other charitable acts?

People who vote for ANY candidate regardless of what party the belong to, STRICTLY for the reason of getting more money are selfish. I never said only Bush supporters, but in this case, the person happens to be Bush.

But lets say Accord was voting for Bush, because he also liked his views on other topics such as health care, the war, stem cell research and abortion, that would be ok. It's ok to vote for a candidate because you want to bring home more money, but it should be Balanced along with other views that you and your candidate share

I guess its just a difference in opinion. Accord surely isn't the only one voting solely on one issue though. Take for example a teacher at my school who is a gay republican but is going to vote Kerry just due to the fact that Bush proposed an amendment banning gay marriage. He agrees with Bush on almost every other issue but this one but those don't mean half as much to him. Now is this selfish? Because its basically the same thing Accord is doing.

Well, I guess Gay Rights, mean the most to your teacher, and thats an issue that Kerry can help him with.

And on the other hand, Money means most to Accord, so thats an Issue that Bush would most likely help him with.

I think when your only interest in a candidate is money, than it would come off as being selfish. But if you are gay, and just wanted to have equal rights, as far as marriage etc., I dont find that selfish at all.

That's my opinion

So it's ok for a person whose fascination is, to put it quite bluntly, get some backdoor loving to vote on a candidate on strictly one quite selfish issue, while it's not ok for someone else to vote for another candidate on what is just as selfish if not less selfish?

Gay rights applies to gays only. That's their thing. Money is what makes the world go around, and it matters to everyone in this country. You can't live without money. You can live without gay rights. The gay person is more selfish than the person interested in money, because the gay person is willing to sacrifice the rest of his life and others just because he wants to be able to get his backdoor loving.

Hey Juanky, what if instead of Gay Rights it was Cuban rights?

Cuban issues is not something that you should base an entire election on. Do I do it? No. Your point? None.

And oh btw, my point had absolutely nothing to do with Gay Rights. They can have all the rights they want. My point is to call that not selfish yet to say Accord is selfish is blind to the reality of the matter.

It is not that people want to bring home as much money as possible...it's that they want to bring as much of their EARNED money as possible.

It's not like we want to steal from others...it means, the money we earn (i.e. income) is what we want. Freedom of choice is a beautiful thing....freedom to decide how we spend our money, too, is a beautiful thing.

The government telling us that we HAVE to give them money so they can give it to "poor people" is ridiculous.

Spend your money on charities. Better yet, spend TIME with charities. That's where the real issue is. Many people aren't poor because they can't receive any money. Many are poor because they can't manage money. Sifting money through the government, then to charities, then to people (who quite possible don't even have an education as to how to manage their money) is a HIGHLY ineffective manner!

Jimminy crickets, I'm not selfish and am appalled that someone would label me selfish (if you label Accord selfish for what he said, then you label me selfish in the process), just because I want to CHOOSE where I put my money and time.

If yall want to use the HIGHLY INEFFECTIVE manner to help the poor, go ahead.

Maybe we should just throw ALL our money into a pot and divy it out evenly. Wouldn't that be a great utopian philosophy.

Juanky, there is a key difference in letting one issue tip the scale as opposed to saying I dont car about anything else except what puts money in my pocket. Its almost like saying I dont care at all if the Nazi's kill all Jews, as long as they are letting me keep all my money. I doubt that the gay teacher would sacrifice people for butt sex but from what accord states, therein lies the "wow." You can argue that you want less taxes and whoever does that, you would lean to. But whoever argues that if there are no taxes is utterly naive. Even conservatives and libertarians such as tonyi and sorianofan seem to see taxes as some formative neccessesity.

Many people aren't poor because they can't receive any money. Many are poor because they can't manage money.

Im appalled at that statement. Thats just not true. Yes some people cant manage their money but there are people working there butts off in this country for meager wages and living paycheck to paycheck. Im sorry but that goes against a lot of what you seem to stand for. People in our own state, white and black, are barely eaking it out and it isnt because of bad managerial skills. The cost of living in this country is increasing through inflation and healthcare costs and other ways while the wage rate is not. Basically people make less than they can afford. I think youve gotta put yourself in the shoes of a poor person before making such blanket statements.

Now furman, youre just assuming your hard earned money is going straight into poor people's pockets. That's just not true and one of the biggest myths ever. Most welfare programs are state run and are relativley watered down. Your money goes to a lot of important places like the defense of our nation, the welfare of the elderly(honor thy father and mother), the national park system etc. Do you know how much the nation gives in subsudies and breaks to business to act in a certain manner?

Here is the problem when you totally ignore everything else, which is what accord stated in his rant. These things will come back and bite you in the ass if you focus SOLEY on money. Juanky, lets say in the hypo I do give you 100 million to vote for me and it determines the election. Then lets say once in power, hypothetically, I order the eminent domain of the entire nation, including yours, to be sold to foreign nations for my profit and I devalue the dollar and increase the new currency, the mollusk, rendering you pennyless. Are you still pleased with your decision? Thats what some of us are saying. Yes I know thats very extreme but so was Accord's statement. That being said, there are things which are important to the health and vitality of this nation such that if you ignore them, it might not matter how much you make.

On another point, let me ask the conservatives this. How many of you make over 200k a year in salary? Because if any of you are middle class or below that amount, you have no right to whine about your tax rate. Your contribution to the national tax scheme is marginal at best and at a real dollar value, not that much larger than most other classes. So while you vote on an issue that may effect you to a certain degree personally, you are giving up on others which are affecting the nation severly.

Hey Accord please read below before posting another post in the political forum:

****WARNING****

Political Forum is not for the weak-hearted!

Look. I discredited everything Accord said once he mentioned only a liberal member of this board and said it was a bash Bush board.

If you actually did pay attention to anything, you would realize there is a distinct conservative and liberal tone here from different posters.

For every bush bashing topic, there is a Kerry bashing topic.

Therefore Accord is discredited and whatever he says is totally meaningless in my eyes, I glossed over the rest, because there's no telling how much more crap he made up.

Secondly, I did read the part about blowing this board up. Yes this is primarily a baseball board. And?

That means you can talk about baseball only? Hell I want Off-Topic gone then by that logic also. Same thing with all the other boards not baseball related. This is a marlins board afterall, everything else is just fluff.

Stupid logic.

this board was created for this specific purpose. what does it matter if people reside in here mainly and dont post in the marlins section? when did you become judge of others? but ya, lets blow up this board because it only adds to the levels of discussion here and brings in additional members. they arent needed or wanted anyway.

question:

what's the purpose in making Accord's name bold....and why don't you boldface everyone's names on every thread?

just wonderin

I agree with Furman here. I bust my ass for damn close to minimum wage and my wife does the same. We have a mortgage, car payment, insurance payment, phone bill, cable bill, power bill, lot rent, grocery bills, and a water bill every month. we have close to 2,000 in bills per month, and we make barely enough to pay it. But you know what we do that a lot of poor people do not? We dont go out and spend our leftover money every month buying unecesarry stuff that we dont need. We put what we dont use back into a savings account in which we allow ourselves one unnecesarry purchase every 2 months. This time around I bought Madden 2005. Its not impossible to live on a low income, hell its not impossible to have a damn good life on a low income. I'm happy as I can be and I dont have a lot of money. I dont want to hear about people who make minimum wage and cant make ends meet. They have kids? If they knew they couldnt afford to bring a child into the world and support it, why get knocked up? Its ignorant. And how many times have you driven by government housing for low to no income families and seen a tricked out Escalade rolling on Spinners? "Poor" people tend to have all the money they need for leisure items, yet expect handouts for their bills? They have obviously financially over obligated themselves, and theres no one to blame for that but themselves. period.

Juanky, there is a key difference in letting one issue tip the scale as opposed to saying I dont car about anything else except what puts money in my pocket. Its almost like saying I dont care at all if the Nazi's kill all Jews, as long as they are letting me keep all my money. 514174

Taxes are a form of necessity yes (I don't know how no taxes got brought into this but I digress), excessive taxes aren't. That isn't the issue at hand.

Caring about how much money is in your pocket as opposed to stem cell research and gay rights is completely out of the league of the Nazis. You are majorly reaching with that comparison and you know it, and you just reach a tad bit too far. You could give the same argument in the converse: You support a candidate who is a communist and will equally distribute money to all the people, but dissenters of the system will be executed. You don't care as long as everyone gets an equal share of money right?

An Accord I don't believe said anything about not having taxes, he said Bush would leave him with more money at the end of the week than Kerry would. That's what I got out of his quote.

Here is the problem when you totally ignore everything else, which is what accord stated in his rant. These things will come back and bite you in the ass if you focus SOLEY on money. Juanky, lets say in the hypo I do give you 100 million to vote for me and it determines the election. First off, I don't get paid to cast a vote for someone. There's a difference between the hypothetical you proposed earlier and this one. Secondly, you do realize what you just proposed is impossible, so I need not worry about it.

Money, whether we all like it or not, is the key issue behind this nation and all nations. It is the vitality and the healthy of the country, and most disagreements between my side of thought and yours is how we'd like to use/have our money used. Other issues come secondary to the economy and how the country goes about its daily business. I don't advocate voting on one issue, however saying that someone voting on one issue, regardless of what that one issue may be, is selfish is not something that should be done. That simple.

"This will be the first election that i'll be old enough to vote in and I plan on voting for the candidate who will allow me to bring home the most amount of money at the end of the day, and that candidate is Bush."

i'm voting for Geihammer.

he's a haRDcore neo-nazi that wants to kill all the jews and take their money and distribute it to whites. he also wants to take all the blacks, latinos, east europeans, catholics, single mothers, and irish into forced labor in order to better serve the white man.

hell, i'll go home with more money in my pocket, and that's all that matters.

Dude, there is a such thing called principle. would you vote a dictator into office as long as you get a free hummer every day? give me a break. people like you disgust me.

Beinfest4Prez: Am I selfish? No, I am just doing what is in my best interests, and if you feel the need to persecute me for my beliefs, so be it. I am a 19 year old college student working my ass off every single day to be able to pay my student loans, cost of living, etc. By the time I graduate, it will probably be 10+ years before the time my student loans will be completely paid off. I do not have to time worry about whether or not Gay people should have the right to get married. When I get out of class during the winter, I have mabye 30 minutes to myself before I have to go to work until 10PM and then rush home to get sleep and wake up at 6:30 AM and do it all over again. This world revolves around money, not gay rights, not abortion, not lazy poor people... money. You cannot survive in the real world without money, the economy and national security are by far the most important issues.

Besides my immediate family, nobody cares about me, nobody will do what is in my best interest. I hate both Kerry and Bush, I do not agree with every single thing Bush does, I completely disagree with the war in Iraq and many other things. If (god forbid) Kerry gets elected, i'll have to work even longer hours than I do now just to be able to bring home the same amount of money i'm already making, that is WRONG.

I'm not some millionaire that doesn't want to pay my taxes, i'm a 19 year old college student just barely trying to get by. The government cannot function without taxes, however there comes a certain point where you've got to say enough is enough.

Who will allow me to keep more of the money that I EARN? Bush

Of course there are bother liberals and conservatives alike in this forum, however the similarities between the two end very quickly when you realize the tone of the majority of postings from these members. It seems as if every topic in this forum, regardless of the subject matter is eventually turned into a Bush bashing frenzy by the hardcore liberals, the reasons I singled out LCyberlina is because she is a perfect example of this. There are no conservative/republican equivelants of LCyberlina on this bored and even the most die-hard conservatives on here are not even half as aggressive as the hardcore liberals, such as LCyberlina.

You can't honestly sit there and tell me for every Bush bashing topic there is a Kerry bashing topic, it's more like for every Kerry bashing topic there are 20 Bush bashing topics. Arguments (most of them, at least) made in this forum are without merit and it's rare to find someone in this forum that can put up a good argument without a religious use of Google, regardless of which side they're on. Every argument in this forum starts out fine but inevitable turns into a flame war full of personal insults which have absolutely nothing to do with the initial topic at hand. I have not been discredited, merely you just don't want to hear the truth.

You cannot call my logic 'stupid' when you did not understand the logic behind where I stated that the Political forum should be removed in the first place. This forum should not be deleted because this is primarily a baseball forum, it should deleted because the arguments in here go absolutely nowhere, serve absolutely no purpose and cause tension amongst the members which stems far beyond the political forum. The root and basis of many flame wars and personal attacks that take place in OTHER parts of this website such as the Marlins related forums can be traced all the way back to the political forum.

Dude, there is a such thing called principle. would you vote a dictator into office as long as you get a free hummer every day? give me a break. people like you disgust me.

That is asinine, do not put words in my mouth. People like you are the reason there is no integrity in this political forum. That's right, there is such a thing called principle and that is precisely the reason why I am voting republican in my first ever election.

WTF Accord.

There are most definetly conservative equivalents of her and worse than her...

But I will decline to say their names since I like arguing with them. :)

EDIT: If no one cares about you except your family, you must not care to make friends or you are genuinely hated.

Of course you being hated could be for the wrong reasons..

I didn't mean it like that. Of course my friends, family, etc. care about me. What I was trying to say was, the career politicians like Bush, Kerry, etc. do not care about me or my interests, all they care about are votes and in the real world nobody is truly looking out for you except yourself regardless of what any politician claims.

Also, I disagree that there is a conservative equivalent of her. I may be wrong, for all I know there may be one considering i'm not very active in this portion of MB.com, however from what i've seen there are no conservatives on here which are as aggressive or hateful as her towards people that have different opinions, though this thread is making me think differently.

I'm a Marlins fan, we all are on here, i'll probably eventually even meet some of you guys in real life at a meet at an upcoming Marlins game or something. The problem I have with the Politics forum is that what is said in here does not stay in here and this forum causes problems and tension amongst members in other areas of MB.com.

Time and time again, someone will insult the intelligence of another member because they disagree with their political views. Rather than refuting the other persons argument in a mature way, they will reply in a very sarcastic and hateful manner just like what many people in this very thread have done.
