August 15, 200421 yr hey....who knows? SPOONEYBARGER HAS BULLPEN SESSION Reliever Tim Spooneybarger, who hasn't pitched since June 2003, threw a 10-minute bullpen session Saturday and remains optimistic he'll get back on the mound this season. ''I'm getting closer,'' he said. Spooneybarger is making his first road trip of the season so that pitching coach Wayne Rosenthal and trainer Sean Cunningham can more closely monitor Spooneybarger's rehab from reconstructive elbow surgery.
August 15, 200421 yr I dont see it happening right now, but it would be a huge lift if he did come back for the September push...dont rush it...
August 15, 200421 yr One thing about spooney is, he has great movement, great stuff, so its not as important for as it would be for a power pitcher or a control guy to be 100%. If he can just get the ball over the plate the velocity isnt as important. - My thoery
August 16, 200421 yr Spooney will be great setting up for Mota next year.? :thumbup 513736[/snapback] Why can't they resign Benitez. ( He'll do s****y anywhere but here...
August 16, 200421 yr Did anyone see Marlins Strikezone yesterday? They showed Spooney rehabbing and whatnot.
August 16, 200421 yr Wow, I never really thought about Spooney coming back this year. I hope he doesn't rush, but it would be tremendous to have another MLB'er in the pen.

August 16, 200421 yr with seanez, mota, and mando, our bullpen is loaded. anything from spooney is icing on the cake, so he shouldnt fell the need to rush anything

If we activate him, we should limit him to mop up situations until we see how he does and what kind of control he has.
