When Beckett or Pavano or Burnett puts up those numbers like Lawrence did it's we won because of them (accurate usually) yet when the other team's pitcher does it, it's because we suck? Like I said before, Marlins=inconsistent, inconsistent=no playoffs and false hope. You all say how great Bienfest and Loria are getting Lo Duca and the rest. Well if they are so great why in the off-season they balk at Vlad and the rest. They moved Penny because they know they wouldn't pay him next year. They'll pay Lo Duca whatever he gets in arbitration, they won't lose 2 upper tier catchers in 2 years. However, they probably will lose Pav and Mando. They will probably hang their hat on a 500 year, saying "Hey look we were competitive, its hard to repeat look at the Angels, oh those low payrolls kills us... Gimme a stadium!" :plain I am beginning to wonder what Sampson's prediction was at the beginning of the year. I can't wait for him to open up the envelope and he scribbled down like 70-something wins and says "See we did better than I thought we would!"

Niner may not be a position player next year, maybe if he stays at first, but still he is in the twilight of his career. Lowell will be a year older, so with Paulie. Acctually if we do;t get a stadium deal done in writing in a few months Mikey can opt out, but I don't think he will.... yet.... Was the offense potent this year? If not, why would it be next year? Cabrera is the only hitter on the team who will be getting better. Pierre will stay the same, Castillo might lose a step. Lowell and Conine are beginning to be over powered by hard fast balls. Seabass is Seabass. We have no left handed bats with power, period. Starting pitching will be weaker, relief pitching will arguablly be better, but could be considered worse if there is no Mando.

He was offered more by the Mets. I like to think Pavano is a nicer and more loyal guy than Pudge. I believe he is anyway. Remember Pudge was with this front office and organization for 1 season. Pavano was with some of these guys for years and years because of his Expos days.

Beinfest put himself into this situation. Our lineup isn't going to be any better than it was this year, next year so he better be able to keep this pitching staff intact.

Loria and crew gave Pavano a chance and he grew up in their organization in Montreal. I even remember an article about a month ago where he said he would be nice to them since they were nice to him. He said something like that but I do forget the exact quote.
August 21, 200421 yr Loria and Beinfest traded for Pavano after he was demoted to AAA by the Expos, and gave him a generous raise this past offseason. I think he'll come back. But what do I know? I regard 82 wins as huge accomplishment for the Marlins.
