Report: Heat pursuing former UF star Jason William

Don't be surprised to hear Pat Riley and the Heat are pursuing Memphis point guard Jason Williams, the former University of Florida star player.

Shaquille O'Neal has encouraged it, which is more than a little significant.

Getting Williams would allow Riley to use up-and-coming star Dwyane Wade as a shooting guard, which is his natural position, instead of at point, where he tried to play as a rookie last season.

Part of the deal would include Miami sending small forward Eddie Jones and either Damon Jones or Keyon Dooling to Memphis, who might throw in James Posey to make it work.

O'Neal and Williams are Central Florida neighbors with homes in Islesworth.

Williams early in his career was both praised and criticized for his flashy style of play, but he has toned it down enough that he would work well with O'Neal. Together, they could make the Heat a joy to watch.

Doesn't sound like a particularly good deal for the Heat.

I heard about this awhile ago. If anybody followed Memphis at all last season they would no J-Will has grown up and can now run an NBA team. He still is flashy but he can play point guard (over who Dooling?), any day.

if this deal happens, pat riley should get his own statue. James Posey is an underrated player and if u ask memphis fans they'll tell u he was their MVP last season. I would love to do this deal.

I agree on Posey but I'm not sure on Williams.

Which Jason Williams is that..................

Memphis motorcycle boy or shot gun boy...................

I am assuming it's memphis williams.

White Chocalate...plays for Memphis...no motorcycle relation that's Jay Williams formerly of the Bulls.

This would be a great deal for Miami.

They dump Jones, and I still like Dooling and James, but to also get rid of one of them to add Posey, a very talented player who could start for Miami, is worth it.

As for White Chocolate, he's developed into a nice little player under the coaching of Hubie Brown. He's a lot more disciplined now than he was in Sac Town early in his career, and he'd be a good distributor for the Heat, and also an added perimeter threat.

Hubie Brown = magnificant coach

Brown and Popovich are BY FAR the 2 best in the business....

This deal sucks. We don't need a flashy PG. Wade and Eddie are good enough. Williams is immature and needs the ball too much to be good. Posey will also take away from Rasual and Wrights minutes. Williams is the type of player you want when you're rebuilding but not when you're a good team because it's always about "him." We have Shaq and Wade, the rest of our guys are good roleplayers. Our backcourt D would suffer, too. I like this team right now, if it's not working by the trade deadline, make a move. But leave it the way it is right now.

if you wanna reach the full potential of shaq you need a good pointguard, imagine the posibilities

white chocolate is tha man and has grown up considerably since his days as a king ... he made the memphis team a contender last year

plus you get Posey who is a good scorer and could come off the bench as an GREAT 6th man or start and get the job done

... I still think the heat need another big man (PF)

i love this deal!

yo think about it...

posey>jones

and i think damon is more help than dooling so

give away sorry ass eddie jones and dooling for a better SF in posey and a great PG in white chocolate who is underated

Naw, not anymore. He's grown up and can play team ball now.

And if we want Wade to thrive we better get a real starting PG.

Our backcourt D would still blow. There are way too many pros and cons from this deal. Which is unsureness. Which usually means "Don't do it."

if this happens, Pat Riley will be an official god.

you get one of the most dominant players of all time without even giving up your best player.....

THEN get a real PG alongside Shaq plus Posey while you're dumping more contracts?

if that's not god-like, i don't know what is

I hope it wouldn't include Damon Jones though, I really like him. Keyon Dooling I could really care less about giving up.

I've always liked JWill and Posey, this would be one hell of a deal.

It's not just about "backcourt d"!!!!!

Yeah, it's not just about backcourt D. It's Turnovers, flashy passes instead of fundamentals, taking away playing time from 2 young players, being undersized, having more streaky shooters, and having a team full of egos. Shaq is enough. No J-Will.

i think this is a great deal ONLY if Posey is included. J. Williams has in fact become a way better player than his first year or two in the league would indicate. he can in fact run the point successfully, as he did in Sac-town and Memphis. he is a better than good shooter who, when hot, can practically make a jumper from anywhere on the floor. the deal becomes all the much sweeter by including Posey, who can be a legit 20 point scorer if given the opportunity.

lets make this happen. :thumbup :thumbup

Why am I the only one who thinks this trade sucks?

523782[/snapback]

because u dont know basketball and know the meaning of having a tru slashing point guard that can deliver the ball to shaq and have wade gettin the max out of him by playing him at SG and unloading the contract of eddie and grant and odom in the same year is godlike. and gettin posey in the mix is just a bonus.

williams

wade

posey

haslem

shaq

thats y this deal should be done. and just for u ubernoobie...PWNED!!!

are you kidding me NinjaUbi?

did skip bring his "flashy passes" here? didn't think so.

and you don't like this because it takes away playing time from Raz and Wright?

:lol :lol :lol

Don't compare Skip and Williams. Skip is actually a street baller who wanted to play in the NBA. So he matured. He didn't try that flashy crap in Toronto. Williams is an NBA player who thinks the NBA is And1. He hasn't matured. He sat out late in games last year because Earl Watson understood the way Hubie Brown wanted to play. Too many good players isn't always a good thing. Role players are needed. Williams, Wade, and Shaq are all players that could be stars for their team. Look at last years Lakers. They had egos. No chemistry. Do you people think Williams and Shaq can last? This is just another dumb rumor that won't happen. You wanna get Williams and Posey but only wanna give up Jones and Dooling? YEAH RIGHT. Fair trade right there. Memphis isn't that stupid. Fans love Posey and Williams and Memphis would lose tons of fans if that happened.

And don't hate on Rasual and Wright until you've seen what they can do. :hat
