November 10, 200421 yr I spoke with Beinfest this past weekend, and when asked about Sosa, he said that it's basically not an option. 610769[/snapback] I spoke with him too and he told me Sosa, Delgado and Morris were going to be signed by December (With the Marlins)
November 10, 200421 yr The only way I can see this deal going through is if the Cubs are so fed with Sosa that they pick up his entire 2004 salary and take on Encarnacion's with a prospect. However.. all reports suggest that Sosa is bluffing. There's no reason for them to pay any team one cent more than what Sosa and his replacement would cost. The Tribune Company feels any obligation to put out a winning product on the field. They sell out the fraternity house that is known as Wrigley Field anyway.
November 12, 200421 yr Author Gammons said Sosa aint going anywhere but if he somehow was moved, it would most likely be the Fish. take that for what its worth

November 13, 200421 yr I find it fascinating that Gammons and others at ESPN seem to want to saddle us with the likes of Sosa and Delgado, either of whom would bankrupt the franchise.
November 13, 200421 yr http://www.nj.com/mets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...28606305410.xml The biggest obstacle to Sammy Sosa becoming a Met is the automatic vesting of the $18 million option he holds for 2006. Actually, it is more than just an obstacle, it's a mountain-sized road block that couldn't be overcome with a moon rover and a team of clever accountants. But it probably won't be a problem. The option never has to kick in. According to a person closely involved in the situation, the Players' Association is willing to allow Sosa to get out of the option, making it far more realistic for him to be traded to the Mets or possibly another team. Sosa's contract states that if he is traded, the 2006 option vests automatically. But he has asked the union if he can get out of it because he knows he won't be traded if the option vests, and he wants to be traded, preferably to the Mets. other source: http://www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spsosa111...ports-headlines
