October 5, 200421 yr People said Shaq was fading and a locker room cancer. I wouldn't mind it 582323
October 5, 200421 yr There's alot of ifs in this deal. However, there aren't many stars Miami would embrace more than Sammy frigging Sosa. It would be mania here. Check that, there is no one that Miami would love more to have a Marlin than Sammy Sosa. It would be a match made in heaven, once the ifs are worked out. I also think Sammy has plenty left in him. 582113 agreed 582126 :goodpost :arms
October 5, 200421 yr A traded Sammy Sosa with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove in a Hispanic market with a team lacking pure power in the lineup is pretty darn tempting. If he only costs us Juan E, do it.
October 5, 200421 yr The Herald's Kevin Baxter responding to my question on Sosa to the Marlins: You can never say never with the Marlins. Not after the Pudge signing. And now we know the team made an offer to Roger Clemens in the winter of 2002 and they almost got Admin Walker last July. So they can surprise you. But if you can never say never, you CAN say ''almost never'' and that's where I'd put the Sosa deal. The Cubs would have to eat a ton of that contract. On the plus side, the Cubs and Marlins appear to have a good working relationship (look at quickly the Derrek Lee trade was done last winter) and Sosa would definitely love to play here. Kevin Baxter 10/04/04 :confused Well that is the reality of it. Let's not keep our hopes too high on this one.

October 5, 200421 yr OMG! SAMMY SOSA! I KNOW THAT NAME! GET HIM! AND PAVANO, BENITEZ, LODUCA AND PEDRO! OR I'LL DROP MY 13-GAME PACKAGE!!! I SO HOPE THIS HAPPENS. JU8ST IMAGINE THE LINEUP!!!! PIERRE CASTILLO LODUCA SOSA CABRERA LOWELL CONINE GONZALEZ !!!!!!!! I just scanned the thread. Is this for real? Should we start the Sosa watch thread?
October 5, 200421 yr If people actually looked at Sosa's stats despite his injuires...he was on pace for 40 homers this season... If he's healthy which he hasn't been for the last two season (and yet he can still hit 40)....he is easily one of the best power hitters in the league and being as power is what this team needs and if the Cubs agreed to eat half of his salary HELL YEAH
October 5, 200421 yr Author I just scanned the thread. Is this for real? Should we start the Sosa watch thread? 582549 it was just an idea jeez... you guys suck

October 5, 200421 yr if the price is right, why not. I think it would be a wise PR move by the office. He will come here to prove he still have a lot left.
October 5, 200421 yr His bat would not put us over the top, but if its all we can do for offense then its a good choice. Our great SP need something to work with. Although Im worried this past season his a decline phase...meaning it will only get worse.
October 5, 200421 yr Sammy was having a very good 1st 2 months of the season before his back injury.. He was batting .295 with 10 HR and 24 RBI in the first 35 games of the year. At that pace, he would get 46 HR and 112 RBI in a 162 game season. According to Dusty Baker, he never found his swing after the back injury and started doing different things to compensate. Once he was struggling, they were looking at film and trying to get him back on track, but it just never lasted. He showed glimpses of getting back to his old self, but he never had a consistent swing from July-September.
October 6, 200421 yr You have to figure that the Front Office could get away with PR murder if it brought in Sammy. That means lose both Pavvy and Mikey.

November 4, 200421 yr Herald today: SOSA A FISH? The Marlins might have interest in slugger Sammy Sosa, who has fallen out of favor with the Chicago Cubs. According to a report in The Daily Southtown, a Chicago-area newspaper, the Cubs would like to peddle Sosa, with the Marlins, Colorado Rockies and New York Mets considered as possible targets. But the Cubs would have to swallow a big portion of Sosa's remaining contract in order to entice the Marlins. Sosa, who has a home in Miami, has an $18 million option for 2006 that kicks in if the Cubs trade him. Sosa is coming off one of his worst seasons in recent years, hitting .253 with 35 home runs and 80 RBI. But he missed a month of the season with a back injury he sustained when he sneezed, he said. Sosa was booed regularly at Wrigley Field toward the end of the season, and walked out on the team the final game of the season.

November 4, 200421 yr People said Shaq was fading and a locker room cancer. I wouldn't mind it Not according to Phil Jackson. The only people who complained about Shaq were Kobe Bryant and Dr. Jerry Buss.
November 4, 200421 yr Author ok, this is as crazy an idea as you can get but with Sammy not being in Chicago's good graces anymore, would you try and trade for him? so his contract looks like this 05: $17mil 06: $18mil or $4mil but out if the Cubs were willing to eat half the $35mil, would you make a trade for him(assuming it was feasible)? discuss. 582095 good show!
November 4, 200421 yr Give them Enc and something small, they'll eat half of the money per year (maybe more if they really want to dump this guy), we'll have an icon, the city goes nuts while Sammy Sosa billboards are put up everywhere, and all the politicos jump back on the bandwagon and approve the stadium. Plus, that's not a bad lineup. 582164 Bingo! We have a winner :notworthy
November 4, 200421 yr I heard this rumor on the radio today and I almost flipped my lid. As someone who lives in the Chicago area and is a die hard Marlins fan I say FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT MAKE THIS TRADE!!!!!!! Sammy Sosa is a joke. He's a "me" player in every sense of the term. He is a TERRIBLE outfielder. He can't run the bases. And his "power" would be wasted in a stadium like the Pro. If the Marlins pick up Sosa I will be PISSED. I really don't think it will happen, there are so, so many more players out there that are 10 times the player Sosa is. Marlins brass, I'm telling you. STAY AWAY!!!
November 4, 200421 yr Ya gotta wonder how much attendance would go up if we got Sosa though :mischief2
