July 2, 200323 yr I'm telling you all, Ramon Castro will be the next big thing... Definitely. I personally think this bench time has helped him. You guys will say I'm crazy, but he has gotten through the time where many catchers get injured alot (when they're young and old, he's not old yet). He has also been able to grow with the pitchers and learn from great catchers such as Pudge, CJ, and Redmond. He will explode next year with productivity we didn't expect similar to D-Dub and Cabs.
July 2, 200323 yr Frankly, Redmond needed to be gone a year ago. Castro has been sitting there for three years now. And don't give me that "Learing from Pudge" crap. Same as that "Learing from CJ" crap I heard for two years. Fact is, Castro serves no purpose sitting on the bench other than taking up a valuable roster spot that could be filled with anther releiver. Almost no one carries three catchers. It's stupid. And yet we've been doing it for three years. AS for the whole arbitration leverage theory. I think the only reason Castro is up here is not because they want to sit him without AB's, but because they are out of options and would have to release and resign him if he went to AAA. I know this was the case a year or so back, and I'm assuming it's still the case now.
July 2, 200323 yr I really don't know about Ramon Castro being the next big thing. In the past, he has always been able to produce in the minors. But in the majors it has been a different story. Personally, I have always said that we should trade him for bullpen help. I still believe we can sign Pudge after this year and have Redmond as the backup catcher. Or trade Redmond and keep Castro as the backup, like the Yankees did with Girardi and Posada, where eventually Posada took over. The only difficulty is that Castro has more trade value than Redmond...
July 2, 200323 yr I really don't know about Ramon Castro being the next big thing. In the past, he has always been able to produce in the minors. But in the majors it has been a different story. No one can produce when they get 8 ab's a month. I still believe we can sign Pudge after this year and have Redmond as the backup catcher WHOA!!! That's a whopper there. We keepin' Pudge? You gonna rob about 60 7-11's to pay for that? B/C I know Loria sure ain't, even if Pudge did wanna come back, which he doesn't. Worse case, Castro starts next year and Redmond backs-up. BUt I think they'll dump Redmond somewhere, start Castro and then call up one of the 8,236 promising catchers they have in the minors to back-up.
July 2, 200323 yr I have always liked Ramon... From when he was in AAA to this day. he just seems like a good player. I think he's going to quietly become an elite catcher... He has the power obviously, but most don't know he actually has the contact... He can hit . 300... I think in his first full season he can hit . 280 25 HR's and 90 RBI... I am confident...
July 2, 200323 yr He has been amazing when he usually plays. I do feel sorry for him. He deserves to be playing... but Pudge is just Pudge, and you aren't going to play over him...
July 3, 200323 yr castro is a stud who gets no P.T if you wanna Trade Lee move Castro to 1st.... but betta get something good in return 4 the potentail 30-30 Man D.LEE...
July 3, 200323 yr Castro cant play 1b. I-Rod wont come back next year so just stop wishing he will. The marlins cant trade Redmond. What if next year Castro does not pan out? Then what? At least by having Red you have an option of who to start.
July 3, 200323 yr You can trade Red. I love the GUY but we don't need him NOW. And I think to this point Castro is a no doubter... He's gonna be great...
