July 2, 200323 yr It appears dawg had something with the Red Sox wanting Penny. The story going around is the Sox are offering Trot Nixon and a prospect(LHP Jorge De La Rosa) but the Marlins want SS/2B Freddie Sanchez.
July 2, 200323 yr freddie sanchez hasnt done anything in the bigs yet, but he is fast, and maybe could be a good lead off, number two hitter, trot is valuable and under rated and a lefty...but maybe he just ahs good number cause of fenway....why do they want penny, the just shelled him???
July 2, 200323 yr Nixon makes $ 4mil this year upwards of $ 6+ mil next year. Who's going to pay him? The last thing we need is another big bucks guy headed into free agency. Unless its a three way where we trade him for someone else, he would only make matters worse for the Marlins not better. He makes more than Mike Lowell or Penny and just shy of Lee's $ 4.25 mil. I wouldn't mind trading Penny but not getting arms back in exchange makes little sense to me.
