Posted July 3, 200321 yr Reds GM was right about Dunn, the Marlins are the ones who want Dunn for Penny. The feeling is Dunn or Cabrera can play 1B until A.Gonzo is ready which might be next year. The rumor today(which I don't believe) is seeing the Reds have no pitching prospects to give up for Penny and with Gabe White out for another week or two. The Reds have spice up the offer for Penny/ Castillo. They are offering this year 1# pick(RHP Ryan Wagner) and OF Smitherson/2B/SS Lopez or 3B/2B Larson. The surprise is Wagner is pitching in AA to show the Marlins and any other team that his ready. The problem is no draft pick in this draft can be traded until a year after he signs but can be traded as "a player to be named" I don't think the Marlins will bite because they want bullpen help now if there still in the race. The question is will FO be able to sell to the team(Lowell) and the fans a castillo/penny deal if they are still in the race. Why I don't believe this is why rush the kid if he can't be trade until next year? I think this is the Reds plan B if they can't get pitching help. I thought I'd pass it along... :mischief2
July 4, 200321 yr If they offer Guilllen instead of Lopez or Larson, and also add in Felix Heredia then they've got themselves a deal. The marlins should also try and give them Almanza
July 4, 200321 yr Because the guy sucks and Heredia would replace him who is making 600,000 which is less than Alamanza's salary. He's also 4-0 with an ERA of 2.76. Has only 2 holds but lefties are hitting .192 and righties .255. Heredia>>>>>>Almanza Making this trade the marlins are dumping $$$ and getting better and cheaper players in return. The only over payed players would be Nunez and Hollandsworth. Maybe even D.Lee.
July 4, 200321 yr Seems as if Herdia has bounced back from a horrible stint with the Cubs. He does come cheap but they better give us a better deal than that for the likes of Penny and Castillo. Maybe he can motivate our players by showing that Championship ring he has. :lol
July 4, 200321 yr Reds would only take on quality salary not AA..... just cut him Stephen Smitherman is a damn good OF prospect but i dont wanna trade both Penny and Luis
July 4, 200321 yr i dunno what the '/' means... does it mean Castillo and Penny or Castillo or Penny? it says we may get Wagner, Smitherman and either Lopez or Larson then it says the FO wants relief help

July 4, 200321 yr Good stuff. I'd love us to get Smitherman, but we need pitching help right now. Castillo/Penny trade okay with me. (Castillo belongs in Marlins Hall of Fame, but Penny sadly is heading for Hall of Shame, particularly if he doesn't accept Closer role temporarily). Thanks for update. Very interesting. (Castillo $4,850,000 right now, Penny $1,875,000.)

July 4, 200321 yr I don't know... I would probably like the deal if I knew who was in it, but I don't...
July 4, 200321 yr Stephen Smitherman BATTERS --AVG G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI SH SF HP BB IB SO SB CS DP SLG OBP X Smitherman, Stephen .318 79 274 43 87 156 17 2 16 54 0 3 5 34 4 67 6 2 5 .569 .399Â
July 4, 200321 yr Larson will be nice to have in the middle of the order. I have heard he just came out of the minors and has Lots of Power. I hope the Marlins make this offer. Larson would be nice even though i think he is struggling this year....lopez will also be good he can be in the bench ( i would rather bench him than bench Larson). Should be intresting to see wht the Marlins think.
July 4, 200321 yr just take his word for it Ok, I was just curious but I guess I will take his word for it.
July 4, 200321 yr ramp can you fix those stats? they look pretty good to me and i dont think we would get both Larson and Lopez Larson struggled in the majors this year but has played well in AAA since going down
