November 8, 200421 yr Wagerweb.com, an online sports betting site sets the odds on which baseball team Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez, who filed for free agency, will play for next season: 1. Boston Red Sox 1:3 2. New York Yankees 2:1 3. New York Mets 3:1 4. San Francisco Giants 4:1 5. Florida Marlins 5:1 He'd be a nice replacement of Pavano or even better with Pavano.... :whistle
November 8, 200421 yr We're on that list because two season ago when there was an issue if the Red Sox would pick up his option, Pedro said that he'd consider the Marlins his top choice if he couldn't go back to Boston. Personally, I think the team that no one is looking at (Anaheim) is going to run away with the free-agent prize again.
November 8, 200421 yr I think that we got a very good chance of landing Pedro. Hes said that he wants to play with a team in the national league and he also likes winning so what other team is better for him than the marlins?? we got a latin fanbase and most of our players our latin. i would love to have Pedro play for us but i wouldnt want him to ask for any more than 10-13 million that would be the maximum ill give him. Imagine this... Pedro Burnett Willis Beckett Pavano, Valdez, Wilson, Clement, ???? Now that would be awesome. What do yall think????

Tell me, really, when was the last time that you heard a Free Agent saying that the top reason he signed with such or such team was because of the team's ethnical background? They could care less if the team is all Latin (BTW, most of our players are not Latin) as long as they get their money in the bank... And for the winning tradition... oh well...
November 8, 200421 yr Pedro breaks down after 6 innings...we would need a good bullpen if we had Pedro on the team

I think it has more to do with the large latin populace and proximity to the Caribbean islands. It sounds nice, in theory, but hasn't worked in practice. Money still talks.

My bad. 610862 Damn you're right, we were much better off with redmond and treanor than a 2 time allstar (which was injured almost the entire time he was here ((broken finger)) LoDuca was the heart and soul of the dodgers he is far better than mediocre, one of the top 5 catchers in MLB for sure
November 8, 200421 yr I highly doubt Pedro will end up here. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think it's gonna happen.
November 8, 200421 yr There is no way. Boston has already offered him 2 years at 25 Million with an option for a 3rd. If we can't afford Pavano how the hell can we afford 6 million dollars more.
November 8, 200421 yr I'd take any odds of us NOT getting Pedro. The Yankees will make a move, driving his price up but Boston won't let him go.
November 8, 200421 yr martinez>pavano i love martinez, he has been the man since going to boston...pavano has had 1 good year ok. so i would rather have pedro then carl...too bad both of them are gonna sign with boston...book it.
November 8, 200421 yr Oh I want Pedro! I want Pedro! I want Pedro! When I was watching the WS, I was thinking that he looks like a Marlin, ya know? He just has that look. And I was thinking we should try to get him.

I think he is saying we were much better when we had the toe-hurting, prostitute-rapist, I-am-letting-my-whole-team-down lowlife of a catcher by the name of Ramon Castro instead of an All_Star catcher who, BTW, didn't have a bronze statue of himself in his front lawn and was not asking 40 million to play with us. :lol :lol :lol
November 9, 200421 yr Imagine This: Becket, Burnett, Penny, Pavano, Willis.? How good would that be?? Oh, that's right we gave that away for a mediocre catcher.? My bad. Damn you're right, we were much better off with redmond and treanor than a 2 time allstar (which was injured almost the entire time he was here ((broken finger)) LoDuca was the heart and soul of the dodgers he is far better than mediocre, one of the top 5 catchers in MLB for sure The numbers just don't bear it out. He's not in the same class as Mike Piazza, Ivan Rodriguez, Jason Varitek, Victor Martinez, Javy Lopez, or Jorge Posada. He's not even in the same class as Ramon Hernandez, Jason Kendall, or Joe Mauer. Also, the Dodgers did a pretty good job of making the playoffs without their "heart and soul".

The problem with many statheads is they can't see the forrest for the trees. Like Ted Williams who chose to play the last couple of games the year he hit .400 rather than sitting to protect his numbers, LoDuca chose to play with a broken finger (not to mention a badly bruised shoulder) and do his best to contribute to the team's effort.
November 9, 200421 yr Matt Clement is a gutsy pitcher, capable of going 7 plus innings. He hasn't approached his peak yet, but will. Again, keep our position players (including Encarnacion) and put every available penny into pitching and hopefully keeping LoDuca the spark-plug.
November 9, 200421 yr Pedro is far from unrealistic. He'd lover this area and this team, and he'd be cheaper than Pavano.
November 9, 200421 yr Pedro is far from unrealistic. and he'd be cheaper than Pavano. 611491 no he wouldnt he was offered a $12mil deal(I think) by the Sawks already

Jeezzzzz. You'd think after the season Pavano just had, being 28-years-old, he'd be the top pitcher on the market.
