November 24, 200421 yr Many people would say that baseball (from little league to Major League) is dead in the country to our north. Well, as strange as it may sound, the relocation of the Montreal Expos to Washington, D.C. may have started a new era in Canadian baseball. The Expos were located in Canada's 2nd largest market, Montreal. Now Toronto's owners (Rogers) will be able to realize their goal of national exposure for their Blue Jays via Rogers SportsNet on TV and the FAN Radio Network. Montreal's team previously required blackouts of the Blue Jays in Quebec. So while wounds still need healing, Canadians are interested in the game. This past season, MLB recorded the largest television crowd to ever watch a program on Rogers SportsNet (1.14 million viewers) when the New York Yankees were upset in game 7 of the ALCS by the Boston Red Sox. The third most watched program ever on Rogers was Game 6 of that ALCS. In fact, those numbers only include cable and satellite viewers because Rogers SportsNet is a cable channel. It also doesn't include Fox's coverage of the games which also aired in Canada and could not be measured. Estimates put that over 3 million people were tuned into the game via Rogers SportsNet, FOX, and the FAN radio network. Now in 2005, the Blue Jays will have a chance to do something that MLB wants to do. Make Canada into one national, and united, market for baseball. Minor League Baseball will soon return to Canada, but until the NL returns to Mont Royal, the Blue Jays are Canada's team and will join the Raptors as such in their sport. BTW, that game 7 is thought to be close to game 6 on the 1993 World Series that saw the Blue Jays defeat the Phillies on a walkoff Joe Carter home run.

November 24, 200421 yr I've always had a thing for the Blue Jays, never could pin point why. Hope they do very well next year and start drawing the huge crowds they drew in the late 80's early 90's.

Montrealers HATE Toronto and their teams like the plague and I guarantee you that the Jays/sportsnet will barely notice the difference in ratings with Montreal out of MLB.
