Preston anyone?

Featured Replies

Center fielder Preston Wilson wouldn't mind exiting, his agent said,

leaving the Rockies obligated to listen to trade proposals from San Diego,

Cleveland and at least two other teams. Because the Rockies would have to

eat a significant chunk of Wilson's $12 million salary, they want to fill

multiple holes in any deal. San Diego offered outfielder Jay Payton, and

Cleveland has outfield depth with Coco Crisp.

from the Denver Post

Now as funny as this would be.... us taking Preston back at the end of that crazy Hampton deal with the Rockies...

If the Rockies eat a significant chunk of his $12 million, why not offer them

Enc (a one year suitable replacement) who would be off their books in a

year, and a solid prospect? If the Padres are offering Jay Payton, & the Indians Coco Crisp.... I'd think Florida could at least be a player.

We keep Preston for a year, give him a chance to get his value back up (as long as he's healthy), and add potentially a huge bat to the lineup. Colorado would cut salary and get a decent outfielder for short-term replacement.

I dunno....... I'm just throwing around ideas. Probably foolish to do anything with Preston coming off an injury.

I loved Preston when he played for us, but he just never produced great numbers in PPS, now as a one year substitute, I would take him, especially if that means getting rid of ENC, move Pierre to right, Cabs to left, and Preston in Center

Pierre doesn't have the arm to play right. Either Cabrera or Preston would play right field.

The guy played with a lot of heart.? Outside of his K's and lack of production I liked him.

That is a fine post, indeed.

Preston was as streaky as they came, but let's not forget that he posted 120+ RBIs when the team was a notch below mediocre. So, he can produce. He also has a Pierre-like work ethic. I'd take him on the team, but the money would have to be worked out, and anyway I don't see this happening.

This team can not afford the amount of K's Preston had and his lack of production, I agree he played with a lot of heart and he was our best player on a sub par team, lets face it though, this team has gotten better, and the expectations have gotten greater, Beinfest knows what to do, he knows what works, but PPS is not the stadium for Preston to play a majority of his games in, but as I said to have him for one year and getting rid of ENC I would do it, but I wouldnt do it unless the Marlins come out way ahead in terms of finances and future players

Well, if I can get 121 RBIs again, I'll take the Ks. There may be better options out there, for sure, I'm just saying, I'd be happy to take Preston on the team.

Another post in this thread is more deserving of that honor

Preston was awesome. He brings back alot of memories. Very good power hitter but K's way to much, but i rather have him than Encarnacion.

Bring him back

P-Funk was my favorite Marlin throughout the down years (in my prof.), I really believed he and Mike Lowell would be the ones to carry the team in the future......

I dont remember him playing RF though, but if he can he is better than Enc without a doubt..... neither can hit for much average, but P-Funk has the better pop and lets not forget he was a 30-30 man. Wouldnt be bad idea to trade for him as long as we dont give up much.....

commas rule!

...and Preston would definitely move to right. He doesn't have the greatest arm anyway so there'd be no reason to put him to center where Pierre's better defensively. Colorado is already planning on moving him to one of the corner OF spots to make it easier on his legs.

Wilson >>> Enc

Hopefully we can bring him in like Armando after some disappointing seasons so that he can relax and put up big numbers with the Fish and then go and sign somewhere else in the offseason.

Preston's ex-wife would love to have him back in town. Not.

The only way it would happen is if the Rockies picked up an enormous part of his salary and considering the way their owner bad-mouthed the Marlins after we won the World Series last year, combined with the fact they are alreay scheduled to pay us $2.5 million in 2005 from the trade that brought Wilson there in first place, I think it would sooner snow in hell than we'll see PW in a Marlins uni again.

Gee I made my case and I didn;t even have to mention he's damaged goods.
